Growing Up In The 1970s...
I found this video on YouTube and it brought back a lot of memories.

A few of those resonated with me too! The teenage Saturday morning at a record shop was just as described - I can remember being so pleased with myself when my choice earned a curt nod of approval from the legendarily judgemental staff of one of our long-gone outlets. TV was even more strictly rationed here - three channels in the 70s which all closed down on weekdays in the afternoon for a few hours and from about 11.30 at night until about 11 in the morning. On Friday nights there would invariably be a horror film - normally Hammer or the like - which would be shown late finishing about 12.40 which is where my love for them developed as I equated them with getting away with something
Biggest difference was how comparatively free-range we were; in summer we'd disappear in the morning, not come back till it got dark and nobody was sending out search parties for us. I was down our main street the other day and had to pass the rows of 4x4s picking up their kids from a local primary school for the 800 yard trip home...you kind of know those kids will never get the chance to make their own mistakes and fall out of trees, into streams or whatever...

They just HAD to work in a god damn commercial ad during this of course. Man I hate f**king Youtube any more. Otherwise this video is pretty much right on the money.

Guarantee no kid these days will experience the thrill of playing on a building site. Sitting in the digger, getting stuck in mud & generally being able to wander around half built houses.Glasgow Kiss wrote: ↑Sat Nov 11, 2023 1:44 am A few of those resonated with me too!
