Favourite non makeup era costumes?

Post by Jemgirl »

Mine is the Animalize era but I also don’t mind the late 80s outfits since I think they were starting to ease into their no makeup looks by then.

No Revenge? They probably looked the best sans makeup around then.

I voted Revenge, but I think Paul looked cool af in the Crazy Nights era. The basketball shirt and the white waistcoat were both killer looks.

The blue thong and the jeans held together with a giant safety pin like Baby Huey are indefensible though.

I prefer the Animalize look in the HOF video... on stage with Gene in shin guards, not so much...

Revenge was cool, and Gene looked his best then, but it mostly seemed forced, and paled to the leathered make up years.

I voted for Revenge, however had Eric Carr lived and was able to stay in the band they would've looked even more Bad Ass! (nothing against Eric Singer he's a monster technician.)

Anyone not voting for Revenge needs psychiatric treatment.

Better than Reveng would be the South American tour of 94.

I don't get the love for the Revenge look excluding Paul. I thought they looked like huge posers. The leather they were wearing looked like it still had the tags on it.Gene looked like a fool. I love Bruce but the tough biker guy look just isn't for him. I do think he looked good later on in that era. I voted for Hot in the Shade. I thought it was more true to who they were at the time.

I think the Hot In The Shade and Revenge "costumes" are about even. Frankly, that's the way they should've looked years before. :|

I'd go with the HITS outfits. They were more restrained than other non-makeup outfits and exuded a bit of cool.

Good topic!
I like bits snd pieces from several tours, but if I had to pick one where I think they ALL looked good, I would say Crazy Nights. I liked Gene’s jacket with that dragon on it, Paul looked great and not too over the top and Bruce and Eric were good too.
Hot in the Shade they all looked good except for Gene. Same with Revenge - all but Gene are good. Even back in 92 I thought he looked horrible with the way his leather pants were worn. He just looks really fat. On Crazy Nights, maybe it was just not as noticeable. But Revenge was a forced look for Gene especially.

I think Eric would’ve have loved this era. They were more heavier during this time and that’s what Eric liked and his look would’ve been the best.

HITS/Revenge (voted HITS) for P,B & both E's as they look quite natural and finally at peace with themselves. Revenge for Gene. Perfect look for him.

Any love for BK's radioactive suit and guitar combo? I feel like this is probably the closest anyone came in the unmasked era to having a "character." For whatever reason, on the Crazy Nights tour, Bruce was radioactive guy.

I actually voted for HITS. While Revenge was definitely better than Animalize through Crazy Nights, I felt like they were trying a little too hard to look "dangerous" HITS I thought was a better balance.

I think its alright. My only issue with it is that there weren't multiples, in varieties. Instead of a one-off, it seems like its the only outfit he owned. There's no escaping the radiation symbol comparison, because thats how most people recognize it. Looks exactly like it. But it was, in fact, based on this primitive, music-recording device ...

The obvious answer would be the REVENGE era, but when we say costumes I think of what they wore live. The leather clad REVENGE look wasn’t what they used onstage. They definitely looked cool in 1992/95 but I think they visually peaked in 1984. They actually had costumes on that tour. By the REVENGE era they looked great but they just had cool clothes.

I agree! Tour rocked, my first concert. Album could of been better had they put more effort into it. I mean there are some good songs on it, they should of cut the number of songs on HITS and put more work into the good ones.

Yes! The matador outfit -- and whats more manly than a bullfighter? The perfect representation of bravado ... and verility.
