Yes, I am responding to the idiocy in my notifications when I log on. My personality and the way I express myself is not new to you either.

You seem to be on a real crusade with me over your usual drive by and then bail posts. Were you not able to hook up with anyone and you are just killing time?

I sincerely apologize. I tried to take the discussion back to Destroyer and off topic shit to PM, but some just wanted keep at it in the threads. I will stop.

It takes two or more tango though. I don't *ruin* every thread even remotely.

So about that Destroyer....

Your post isn't helping.

You do realize that other people were involved. I wasn't just talking to myself. I also was the one that had the info about Ezrin and contributed that here.

I apologize here for my portion of this (it wasn't just me) and I have apologized to Julien as well.

Let's move on now.

Is it too much to ask for someone to please either control or ban some of these guys? Clearly they have zero respect for Admin and the mods, much less the general fans here. They clearly cannot control themselves, yet they're permitted to derail and disrupt just about every decent topic in this forum.

Now comes the long wait until November. This must be what it was like to send your $5 for your Kiss Army kit in the 70’s.

This box might actually contain everything Destroyer-wise, sans vinyl. Nice set, I would say. The actual box could be a bit more fancy.

If this is a series of deluxe editions, it will be interesting to see if they go in some kind of order from Destroyer on or will it be Creatures next for example and then Love Gun or whatever.

I am looking forward to hearing this. I really hope it delivers.

This kind of treatment to COTN would be fantastic. Or the first album. I'd be all over those, but I'm all Destroyer-ed out.

I think a lot of people here would want deluxe editions for lesser albums that they just love anyway over the expected KISS albums. Who knows if those will be done. I want The Elder.

LOL! Actually, it was worse because we had no idea how long it would take. The first time (summer of '76) I would bug the post man every single day and ask him (as if he would even know) how much longer it would take. The last time I sent money was late spring of '80, and got my package in mid fall. (That one was really light, it had one 8x10 B&W Dynasty promo, one membership card, one KISS Army Sticker and the newsletter introducing Eric Carr, and that was it!)

Compare it to the Metallica releases that cost the same.

The box set is a great package, but at the same price as Metallica's vinyl sets?

That's way past hard pass for me.

Also...why didn't they include a Destroyer show?

I understand that KISS’ music is undervalued. Even to the members themselves. Shame on me for being into the music first and foremost.

I am just curious. I have seen your passion for vinyl on the forum and I understand your comment above - but is it really all or nothing when it comes to music?

If there isn't a vinyl option, you won't buy another format or it is just for the stuff you REALLY want or priority purchases vs just any regular purchase of music?

Side Note, If the mock up in the video is to scale, there might actually be space to fit the vinyl in the box, even if it's purchased separately. There seems to be foam padding... Hmmm...

Put the items in your cart. When you checkout, there is a spot to enter the code. That should work for 10% off.
Didn't work for me. Got a message that I had already used the code previously. I can't remember when, but it must have been quite a while ago. They obviously keep track.

Seriously...this boxed set is quadruple the price it should be and not even in the same league as the boxed set it's priced to compete with.

Hard disagree.

If Kiss did what Metallica did, this would be 110% overwhelming fanboy jizzing.

What they did was a quarter of what Metallica did at the same price.

$200 for 5 cds.

I'm not paying $40/cd.

2. I wonder if Live Shit is getting it's own set?

The cds look like a great set.

The bonus things of a tourbook, Kiss Army kit, etc. is worth the cost! For someone who doesn’t have the income to drop a few hundred to a grand for an original Kiss Army membership kit or Destroyer tourbook, this is a great opportunity to enjoy that without breaking the wallet. A time capsule! The concept behind this set is fantastic!

I'm glad I took a look at this post.

I accept that I cannot afford every album in this world that I want.

By accepting that reality, it makes it easier to just say, sorry, vinyl only.

I will not buy another format as I don't use other formats for serious listening and if I'm dropping $40/cd on a 5 CD set, you'd damned well better believe it's serious.

The only exceptions I make regarding formats is CD at shows....if they're $5.

Precisely!!!

I have my original album, my original 8-Track, my original tour program, my original KISS army kit, my original posters from that era, my original 45s (including my picture-sleeved Flaming Youth), and yet, I'm still super stoked for this release.

None of my original Destroyer stuff is in "brand new" mint condition, it looks like it was owned by a 12/13 year old kid, because it was

Fair enough.

As someone who doesn't collect vinyl though - is the sound quality better than the CD as far as you are concerned with current releases.

I mean if you buy the latest Ace Frehley album - is the vinyl going to be superior listening or is just the same sound as digital files. There is no "warmness" to the vinyl.

I have only ever purchased one super deluxe boxed set in my life...that was ...And Justice For All by Metallica.

It has:

the album rough mix...aka alternate versions (with the bass I might add)
the album on 180gram vinyl
The album on CD

The riff tape CDs..2 discs of that... I have not listened.
The One 10" picture disc (which is a waste of time for me)
SEATTLE 89 on vinyl!!!!!!!! (an actual ...And Justice For All tour show and the reason why I purchased this set)
CD of interviews
A recreation of the album via demos
CD of all the B sides
Radio Edits
4 live shows on CD

Lars's camcorder footage...I will not watch this.
A contemporary documentary
One Video, One edited video, One live at the grammys
One B Roll...whatever the fuck that is.

2 complete concerts on video

bits and bobs of several others

This costs the same as Kiss's 5 CD set for Destroyer.... I'm sorry, but this is not a win for us the fans.

Kiss Destroyer (again)

15 demos...sweet

Unreleased show...awesome

So...three CDs, the other things, and lots of baubles. They're trying, but they're not succeeding.

Do what Metallica did at the same price point.

Thank you for your question and allow me to expoundicate.

A new LP at the absolute worst, will sound as good as any CD/Lossless/whatever. I purchase them as much for the ritual as I do the sound quality, though, I think most of them sound better.

As I've mentioned more than once, I've got a very sweet vinyl setup, largely donated to me by my late father in law, and I've added some little upgrades to it as well.

Music is meant to be heard in 2 channels.

It's always been 2 channels.

Right now, I'm listening to Dream Evil by Dio...my podcast partner and I did Elf today, so I've been cleansing afterwards...

After being cleaned, this LP sounds minty fresh. This record is 35 years old. I mean my copy.

So, in a worst case scenario, I get as good as anybody else, and I get to listen in the special music room, yeah, I'll pay a couple of extra dollars for that. I will also pay to know I have a copy of the music that's mine until I decide otherwise.

And from my experience, you can't brickwall vinyl.

Thanks for the explanation. I can see you are very passionate about vinyl. I just don't really see people say if it doesn't come in vinyl, I am not buying it at all. I respect this nonetheless.

No worries.

I'm listening to the Bruce Dickinson LP, Tyranny of Souls 180 gram repress now... (actually maybe only press?) and it sounds like god herself was singing to me...great pressing.

If artist A doesn't put out their album on vinyl, Artist C might. I no longer have a compulsion to have everything by everybody...though I bought every fucking Aerosmith release from debut to Pump on vinyl.... ;)

I've had 8 or 9 years of music journalism where I get sent more MP3 downloads than I could ever listen to...in my iTunes I have about 1600 albums and in my vinyl racks I have 800 LPs.

It's just my preference.

edit: I also spun Alive II today... Sunday is my big spinning day.

Didn't Tommy mention that at one point they were looking over some stuff for Creatures and there really wasn't that much there in terms of demos, alternate takes, etc.? I think I remember that, but I could be wrong.

You remind me of this old Radio Shack commercial.

I take it you would get rid of "Penelope" in this scenario. :D

Why are we arguing over which band does it better and who could and can sing better? Most of the bands mentioned will retire one day soon, the worlds shit enough let's enjoy their swan song...

That said this is really cool exciting release from KISS, and I hope they continue this on. Personally Rock & Roll Over would be my choice.

For CDs?

No.

$50 is right...maybe $100.

$200 for vinyl would be right.
Agreed. It literally costs a buck....maybe a $1.50 to mass produce a cd. It's overpriced for a cd super deluxe. Not even sure it's limited edition. Naturally I bought 2 of them. :eye:

Also...why didn't they include a Destroyer show?
They did

Unfortunately I may have to wait on the secondary market for this one. Or the 50th release in 5 years.
On the secondary market the price is going to triple inside of two months. Thus is actually pretty reasonable. Also of Note it’s an Abby Road half speed master, and those are always amazing. I just feel like it’s too bad they don’t have a vinyl only version. But all in all this is a great deal, it might be a tad bit over-priced, but not by any noteworthy amount. I’m in for the super deluxe and the vinyl.
Since the mastering is done at Abby road, they are definitely using digital files. They are not going to ship the analog reels over to the uk.
The Destroyer analog files were lost at least as far back as 2010. I don’t know the situation with what happened to them, but I know they no longer exist.

You might be into the wrong band.
I understand that KISS’ music is undervalued. Even to the members themselves. Shame on me for being into the music first and foremost.
I'm with you.

I'll go a step farther, I'm into the music, but only on a certain format.
You’ve got me beat. I recollected on vinyl, as a novelty. But for a full package set with demos, etc, I would prefer the cds so that I have have digital versions.

So for me, 4 cds for $200 is a bit high. That’s how I see it. $50 per disc and of all the demos, which I’ve had, along with the live show, I obviously expect those to be cleaned up. It’s just a tough price for me to swallow at the moment.

With that being said, I love the package and what they have done. This is a big step for them and I can’t wait for its release.

I'm in a position where I can't afford to buy 2 box sets. Yeah, I know, sucks to be me. Lol.

So, looking at value for money, I'll be purchasing the Metallica box set.

Yes…but I think he’s wrong. My only thought was he was directed to exclude Vinnie material.
At the least there should be:

Back On The Streets
Betrayed
Don’t Leave Me Lonely
When The Legend Dies aka Legends Never Die
Remixes of the 4 KISS Killers tracks
Creatures tracks with alternate leads (like Bob on Danger)

Two claims from Vinnie:
There was an original mix that he says is better than what was released
He said he has soundboards on cassette so it would make sense that KISS has at least some live material from the 10th anniversary tour that could be included.

While you maybe can’t brickwall vinyl (debatable) you also get:

Limited dynamic range. Vinyl is about 20-75 dB max, CD is 0 to 90+ dB
Extra compression is added to vinyl to make it fit within said parameters.

Degradation. Vinyl degrades with every play. Every. Play. A CD is forever, or at least as long as you’ll be alive.

Music in 2 channels is enjoyable but made to be heard that way? Is a live show 2 channels or does it envelope your entire being?
