Will you be buried? Cremated? Mausoleum? Crypt?

Post by Destroyer72 »

Curious what people here have done with loved ones or planning on doing for themselves.

*Please no religious/afterlife discussions. We're just talking about body disposal when we die.. Which is something we all will face sooner or later*.

Cremation or donate my body to the Human Donation Program for forensic Anthropology, a field that studies the human skeleton to aid law enforcement, medical examiners, and death investigations.

I want to be buried. Just like my dad and my mom whenever she goes.

I just can't bear the thought of burning them like you'd burn your garbage. I can understand people who want to be cremated. But for me, I just don't like it.

On a side note. I'm fascinated with cemeteries. Once in a while I like going and walking through.. Reading the Stones.

It's sad sometimes seeing so many young people with their lives cut short.

Interesting that this discussion is happening now. My dad just passed on Friday, and per his wishes he'll be cremated and his ashes buried next to those of my mom. And I guess when my turn comes, I will join them in the same manner.

I would prefer cremation. Body donation has crossed my mind a few times too.

It would be awesome if soon, a commercial venture would shoot your remains into deep space.
I’d take that flight.

My daughter's fiance' grandfather passed a few months ago. He'd been sick for a long time. Well he was cremated.

So like a few months later they did like a "celebration of life" thing.. where the whole family rented a house near the beach. Has a weekend, spread his ashes, blah blah..

I mean the whole thing came across as contrived and convenient.
Had to wait for everyone to get their schedules together.. Have time off from their yuppie jobs up in Seattle (this one brother) ..

I mean what happened to family being first? What about respecting and honoring your elders and ancestors.

When I go.. The least my kids can do is take time off from your busy little hipster lifestyle and honor me. None of this let's make it easy as possible, dad would want it this way baloney. 🙄

I'm thinking cremated.... Everyone else in the family has been buried, but I don't fancy being in a box eaten by worms.... even though I'll be dead and hopefully won't give a shit!

True story here. My Dad, one Saturday, said to Mum “get your coat, we’re going out to book somewhere hot”. She was thrilled that a nice overseas holiday in the sun was on the cards. Imagine her surprise when the car pulled up at a Funeral Directors and he booked cremations for them. When I spoke at his funeral a few years later I mentioned this. Vicar looked horrified but it got a good laugh.

Personally I'm happy to be cremated. My wife on the other had wants a Crypt (of course she does!) as she doesn't like worms and believes she was a witch in a past life so doesn't want to be cremated.
Even in death she's f****ng expensive!

Cremation. I ain’t religious. I like the price, & the idea of my ashes spread on hiking trails, the ocean, & sprinkled in a joint.

My Alma mater(UT-K) has a body farm for forensic purposes. I am considering it. For years I would never consider cremation, but it is an option I am considering for snorting purposes.

I used to freak at the thought of cremation, when I was much younger, but now I really love the idea. The beach is my happy place and I really like the idea of my ashes being at one with the ocean. Seems like a fitting way to bookend a live well-lived. :)

Definitely cremation and have my ashes scattered. The last thing I want is a final resting place where my children and grandchildren feel obligated to make an annual pilgrimage to, to leave flowers and feel sad. I want to be remembered for living, not a constant reminder that I'm dead.

Its the same reason why I think open caskets at funerals are weird and creepy! Why does anyone want people's last image of themselves to be lying dead in a box? Cremation or a closed casket with a nice picture IMO is way more appropriate.

I'm really surprised all these people want to be burned to a pile of ash.. Like someone's worthless garbage.

Like you're just an inconvenience. Let's toss you in the burn pile and have a beer while we're watching you fry to a crisp.

You can still have a funeral before cremation ,and even have a rented casket if your family wants to go for all the traditional ceremony. It can be done respectfully.

When I looked up the pros and cons of cremation, the biggest “con” on the list was that there’s often disagreement within the family over cremation. It’s just not as readily accepted in our culture as burial is.

Two of my grandparents were cremated and we had very nice memorials for both of them.
No one was treated like garbage, I promise.
There was beer though.
And wine...lots of wine. 🍷

I like the idea of taking up less real estate when I’m gone .

And practically, the cost of cremation is more economical than burial, so I’d feel like less of a financial burden to whoever gets stuck dealing with me. That way there will be more money to spend on the party.
They better throw a good one.
I mean it.

If you're in a sealed casket with a vault there should be no insects.
