Re: How many here actually still like KISS?
Hmm, a 70's fan here but after dealing with my butt-hurt with the new recruits (Tommy and Eric dressed as Ace and Peter) I gave the current line-up a chance. I mean realistically it wasn't like Ace and Peter were dead or anything. So with some reservation, I let the new lineup in, as they were now "part of the KISS family."
So I purchased Sonic Boom (Digi-Pak deluxe edition), my initial thought was ok, not bad. May I add that KISS moving forward with new songs was something I had great respect for.
Monster, cool a new KISS album! I was excited as kissonline.com said they used analog equipment to record. Unfortunately, this is where a tire began to deflate for me. Paul's voice was not great, especially for a studio recording. Paul should have passed the baton to Gene, Tommy, and Eric for a couple of extra songs. After all, if it's the best KISS lineup ever then why not give the new guys a go, yes?
The horrible production for Monster makes it extremely hard to listen to. It makes me think it was brick-walled to hell just to cover Paul's vocal shortcomings. Like an idiot, I bought a vinyl copy hoping the mastering would sound better.
Now the lip-syncing. I had tickets to see KISS 2019 Melbourne Australia but as we all know it was cancelled for some reason.
So do I still like KISS? That's an empathetic yes! However, it's a no to lip-syncing.

when you no longer can do the things you once were the best at , it`s really time to quit , stop with the excuses , especially when you talked shit about former members not cutting it , and all that rubbish you said about other bands , your own band , and you end up doing all that shit yourself...like, really ??

Like many others have stated, I still like the band from the beginning through the Farewell tour... I don't like the current tribute band they call KISS. Not sure which way I'm supposed to vote to capture that...

I can see that working for a lot of people, but for me seeing them age just makes me feel older. I mean even in 1996 one had to work a little to imagine it being 1977 again but it was very easy with the vibe/energy when the reunion was new. Now the current live band can't even remind me of 2006 let alone 1996 or the 70's (or even the 80s which I also loved). I wish it did because I would love to get the same happiness I used to from the band. The last thing they have released that I truly enjoyed and made me feel like I was 12 years old was the KISSology series.Pete2174 wrote: ↑Mon May 17, 2021 4:45 amBit like going to a Kiss show and feeling 12 years old again.Rangers wrote: ↑Mon May 17, 2021 4:19 am It's a little complicated. I love KISS for the personal memories they created for me from 1978-2000, but from 2001 to the present I definitely don't love them nor do I even actually really like them as a band or people. Over the last twenty years as an adult I've become about as opposite of Gene and Paul as possible, and thank goodness for that. However, throw on Destroyer and I feel like that little kid again when I first got it.

Re: How many here actually still like KISS?
Depends on what you mean by "still". I listen to Kiss pretty regularly & I mix them in my playlist all the time, but I do not listen to anything past The Elder. I'm just not a fan of 80's hair bands. Not a fan of Revenge or COS. I've never even bothered to listen to Monster or Sonic Boom. So do I still like them as do I listen still? Yup all the time. Do I still like the new music they've made or want to see whatever they are doing now? No I'm embarrassed for them. I wish they stopped years ago.

LOVE the originals and I always will, the REAL Kiss is the only line up that truly matters. Anything after that was simply the $immons $tanley Corporation.
Love the short lived Vinnie era too, but really, that was the beginning of a new band and they should’ve named it so.
Later albums are hit and miss, Tears Are Falling is a gem, but Carnival of Souls is the most shameless, fake, contrived piece of vomit inducing musical shit I’ve ever had the misfortune of hearing in my entire life.
The reunion was magical while it lasted and it should have ended there, while they were on top of the world.
I have nothing good to say about the scab/tribute era.

I was just going by the release of the first album. I like the Kramer demo's too but I had no knowledge of that at the time.Tito wrote: ↑Mon May 17, 2021 3:54 amI'm almost the same. I'd say 1973 (you don't like the Kramer demo?) to 1980 (Unmasked tour was awesome) for the first one. Second one sounds about right. I'd also change the third one to 1990 (so it includes the Hot In The Shade tour - not the album) to 2001. Then add the Rock The Nation tour, and yeah Sonic Boom album. That pretty much covers the good stuff.Hi I'm Witz wrote: ↑Mon May 17, 2021 3:46 am I love 1974-1979.
I love 1982-1986.

I like Sonic Boom.
I COULD have counted 1980 based solely on the Unmasked Australian Tour shows. However again, I had no consciousness of that happening at the time. I just hate Unmasked the album SO SO much, I just couldn't pull 1980 into my date range. KISS wasn't quite "dead" to me by then but they sure as hell smelled bad.

Re: How many here actually still like KISS?
I still love and listen to KISS but as others have mentioned, only certain periods of the band. It's just down to my personal taste and the fact that I don't like the fact they put other people in Ace and Peter's make up. To me that was at odds with the original idea of the band that I got into when I was a kid. Just my personal opinion as a long time fan.
I also don't like the way they present themselves on social media. For me it's not entertaining or enjoyable and they often come across as petty and unlikable people. Still, I regularly listen to the music, watch the live videos, enjoy coming on the Faq and learning new things about the band and I certainly count them as in my top 3 bands of all time and the first band I ever really got into.
Does that make me a 'yes'?

Re: How many here actually still like KISS?
If we didn't like the band, we wouldn't be here, would we? So I assume we're talking about the current Kiss. I haven't enjoyed the live stuff in years, but I've enjoyed the new music the lineup has put out. So if they had concentrated more on new music than playing old stuff, I'd like the current lineup a lot more.
I'd like Tommy and Eric in the band a lot more if their jobs didn't include being the spaceman and the catman

I'll always love the band, but I agree that they should have stopped after 2000.
Everything (when Paul still had his voice) from 2004 to 2009 was a cool bonus.

Fan since '76. After losing touch in the late '70's, rediscovered them with LIU in '83. Followed them ever since with my fandom having some highs and lows. Have seen three EOTR shows and enjoyed them as much as ever before. KISS will always be my favourite band of all time! From time to time, they can do wrong, but I will always be back. There is nothing like KISS and never will be.

Now that I'm 57 and not 14, the thing I admire most about Kiss (Well, Gene & Paul actually) is their work ethic and perseverance.
I try to imitate that in everything I do.
Some of the music has stood the test of time too, which is a bonus

I do not "love" KISS anymore. I like KISS's music. Though I do not listen to it very often. KISS was my favorite band for 20 years. They have not been since the reunion era and the exposure of all Gene and Paul's BS via the internet.

Yes. I have loved all versions of Kiss since I became a fan '77. Make-up/non-make-up. All of it until the very end! Have they disappointed me occasionally and have I questioned some of there decisions? Absolutely, but the good far outweighs the bad.
