It's a boring song anywhere in the set.

I think it would work anywhere in the set. I think probably 10-15 songs could be openers. DRC is the best choice though.

They’d have to add a couple measures before the vocal comes in if they’re descending to the stage, running down ramps or stairs after the intro, rising outta the stage, etc.

Now, I say no. Had I been asked this right after the MTV Unmasking and the music video world premiere .... heck yeah.

Not only does it not work as an opener, it should be taken out of the set . . . . forever !!!!!!!!!!!

I think for people like us on this board no. For more casual fans in the audience, absolutely , has the fun party sing along vibe.

Re: Would Lick It Up work as an opener?
The opener needs to have a recognizable, dramatic riff - I Stole Your Love, Deuce, DRC, etc.
LIU is a single note played over and over and over again.
It would be a good opener if you wanted your audience to take a pee break at the start of the show.

Those pumping eighth note As (then A-flat, now Ds) would get old while the band descended, unless the song was rearranged to being the guitar fills up to the intro to help flesh out the added bars.

It’s one of KISS’ most enduring and well known songs. You’re dislike of it is irrelevant. It’s always been a crowd pleaser.gene therapist wrote: ↑Wed Mar 25, 2020 10:12 pm It would be extremely anticlimatic. It's an awful and cringe-worthy song, opener or not.

Opening with Great Expectations off Destroyer would be more fun. Off Lick It Up how did they not open with or even play Exciter in U.S. Somehow Exciter has ended up long forgotten while song Fits Like A Glove gets dry humped on KissFAQ almost daily. Upside down is the new right side up.

Yes. If they did a version similar to the one that they did on the LICK IT UP tour. Listen to the King Biscuit Flower Hour version.

I can see it, the band behind the curtain, Paul singing 'Don't wanna wait til you know me better' then the curtain drops the stage explodes into life.

And vice versa: it being a crowd please is irrelevant to me. What is relevant to me is the composition, which is a piece of crap both musically and lyrically, even by Kiss' standards. I don't tend to value a song based on its popularity, but to each his own.

The opening needs a pulsing or driving riff to get the crowd excited
the chugging continual note (A?) of lick it Up would be too monotonous for an opener

Well what popularity suggests is that you simply don’t get it. I think LIU is brilliant in it’s simplicity. You can hear it once and sing along to it. AC/DC made a lucrative career out of doing this.gene therapist wrote: ↑Thu Mar 26, 2020 5:45 amAnd vice versa: it being a crowd please is irrelevant to me. Re: Would Lick It Up work as an opener?
Fair enough. I’ve always enjoyed the song. It’s simple and there’s not much to it, but it is very effective. Many years ago I went to a KISS show with a group of 10 people and 4 of those knew nothing about KISS outside of the gimmick and 1-2 songs. I took notice of what their reactions were to the whole experience and noted that they grabbed hold of a few choruses to sing along with. Lick It Up was definitely one of those that they caught on to immediately. It’s got an ear worm of a chorus. Sometimes less is more. Like I said, AC/DC have made a career out of simple but effective rock songs.gene therapist wrote: ↑Thu Mar 26, 2020 3:14 pmNot only does it suggest it, I can confirm I "simply don't get" Lick It Up. For above mentioned reasons.

Amazing overall entrance on this tour. Such impact
Powerful, massive, in every way———-descending lifts, smoke shooting upon, fire pillars, girating lights everywhere .....all the while Detroits opening riff is the driving pulse behind all the spectacle
