nibbler1982 wrote: Sun Apr 14, 2019 8:30 am The Montreal boxscore is quite the anomaly. It’s hard to explain the relatively low gate and average ticket price. Not that the numbers are so out of whack, but they’re disjointed enough to catch your attention.

Off the bat, sales were so robust out the gate that they literally added a second show. That being the case, discounted prices were near nine existent if not at all. Next, this was one of the highest attendances of all recorded shows so far. So you have high volume, high sales rate, and nonexistent discounts. This all adds up to some of the best numbers of the tour. Well...the best laid schemes o' mice an' men gang aft a-gley.

As it stands the $85.48 is currently the lowest average ticket price of the tour. Add on top of that the fact that the gate barely made it to $1.2M. Other attendances with ~13,500 or better made considerably more, some $500,000 more. It’s wuite the divergence.

Okay, so maybe it’s just the Montreal market. Some regions are just different monetarily from others. Nope, I don’t think it’s that either. Let’s look at what KISS did here in 2009 compared to today.

KISS
Bell Centre
Montreal, QC, Canada
July 13, 2009
$992,525
13,566
Average price per ticket $73.16

KISS
Bell Centre
Montreal, QC, Canada
Mar. 19, 2019
$1,214,421
14,207
Average price per ticket $85.48

In 2009 the ATP of $73.16 was one of the highest of that year. In 2019 the aforementioned ATP of $85.48 remains the lowest. It’s truly a tale of two cities.

Something is definitely off. I’d love to know the how’s and why’s of it. Maybe time will tell.
The exchange rate.

That's an oversimplification, but things just value differently in different currencies sometimes.

It’s not the exchange rate.

KISS
General Motors Place
Vancouver, BC, Canada
Nov. 14, 2009
$966,046
13,546
Average price per ticket $71.32

KISS
Rogers Arena
Vancouver, British Columbia
Jan. 31, 2019
$1,551,414
13,373
Average price per ticket $116.01

The funny thing is the Montreal show sold more tickets and at a more robust rate, which would translate to less discounted seats. If any at all that is. Don’t forget sales were so strong they added a second show.

When looking at available data for EOTR, Montreal is truly an outlier.

Very interesting! Yeah, I can't explain it. Maybe brisk business for the first 10,000 seats, they added a second show, and then sales for the first dropped off and they discounted the final couple thousand?

That’s certainly plausible. Although the way I remember it...it was just about to capacity by the time they added the second show. I couldn’t say that for certain though.

I’d love to see the rest of the boxscores and see if Montreal remains the quirk it appears to be.

Wow... I figured that show would have been more than that. Fantastic numbers, but I thought it would be closer to 15,000. Needless to say, I was a little off. Will be interesting to see if we get a boxscore for Jacksonville.

When they say reported audience of 13,103 does that refer to tickets sold/issued or how many people actually showed up? I was at that show and have no idea where those 400 empty seats would have been. I bought my tickets only two weeks before the show from Ticketmaster and there were barely any available maybe 30 or 40 seats in those two sections that are alongside/behind the stage and about 5 rows worth in the two lower bowl sections closest to the stage that they released as "Platinum seats" about 2 week out.

"Reported audience" refers to amount of tickets sold. However, capacity can refer to total amount of seats in the venue, OR the total amount of tickets made available for that specific event. Of course, that's contingent on a projected demand by the promoter.

Of course, some may get upset that the figures reported by the venue don't match the "SOLD-OUT" banners Paul posed with ;) They'll likely get adjusted at some point, but I'll take industry reporting over eyeballs and band members any day!

Of the roughly 1.5 million gross each show, could anyone estimate what amount goes where? Like what is the venues cut? what does it cost to keep something like this on the road?

I believe it’s 99 non festival shows and a total of 105 for 2019.

Are all of them gonna come in at the $1,370,950 average KISS is currently pulling in? No.

I do think Europe and Oceania will draw at roughly the same rate and then a drop when they return to the states.

The total is assuredly gonna be north of nine figures. How much further? We’re gonna find out together.

What I’m really intrigued with is what 2020 and 2021 is gonna look like.

Stay tuned. :D

I hear what your saying, but not if you break it down mathematically. The Coliseum is smaller. You have less seats selling at a higher price...that’s where the story ends. That gives you the higher price per ticket.

Points to ponder.

https://www.billboard.com/biz/current-boxscore

I noticed that this week’s Billboard Charts was filled with a lot of “big” shows. Meaning even the show listed at number 50 (out of 50) still drew ~$1.5M.

I’m wondering if some of KISS lesser concerts would’ve been on this list if it was extended to top 100 shows of the week? If so, will we get those boxscores eventually?

No, it's not.

But even taking that into consideration, I would have thought that, after MSG, this would be one of the 'holy grail' places KISS fans would want to see the band at the end. When this tour was announced I truly though there'd be two shows in Detroit. I thought the first show would sell out relatively quick, then a second show would be added; if that one sold out, who knows, but it just seemed obvious KISS would do two shows on their last tour in the city that one of their most well-known songs are written about, in the city that most fans associate with what many consider to be the band's best album, Alive.

I guess I misjudged how much things have changed.

We got lucky at got them. There were 4 <$1.5 million gross shows initially included in the list which at first publication included more than the top-50.

What does a KISS show cost the band? Say at a Sports Arena size venue.

I have no clue, but I would have to guess at minimum a couple hundred grand per show...
