I will be there. Coming in from San Francisco, as I work quite a bit in KC. So, I made this one a work trip

Also, planning to go to the Rock and Brews pre-party with 'Almost Kiss'.

Wow, I'd hope so. It fits 5,800 for minor league hockey. What's the concert seating? 5,000 or so?

KISS, Kenny Rogers, clowns, and mammoths on ice are the attractions at the place this year.

I love your passion for the band, Nibbs, but sorry, this is embarrassing

I have to agree. This is in the Kansas City MO metro with nearly 2 million people. KISS in the past have played the Sprint Center (where the big boys play) or the Sandstone. In the past they typically drew 10K+ in the KC metro, and now in 2016 can barely sell out a 5k venue.

Actually this is one of the venues where attendance for a concert is higher than for hockey. The stage is set way in the far end and you get to still use most of the arena. 6,000 for a show. It doesn't make much difference for your "embarrassing" argument, just clarifying.

If you think farming the secondary markets is beneath a band so be it. Personally I dig the fact that forty three years into it KISS still want to out nonstop, breaking their ass year after year. The business side of the equation is a no brainer.

I agree, Nibs. 5K is STILL mote than most bands from the 1970's can bring. I'm a Lifer. And Always will be. Been there, done it, pretend KISS Army.

What I don't understand is why people are trying to shit on them for making bank in the secondary markets? They did the same in 2011 and 2013. There's no fiscal responsibility in touring the same markets year after year. It's like farmers rotating their crops, you get the most out of the soil that way. Does anybody forget just last year this band toured the world with 10,000/$800,000 a night?

Reports of KISS' demise have been greatly exaggerated.

I'll admit that I don't understand why they're playing this show in particular.

Independence, MO is very close to KC...and the arena...when you see it...looks like a giant amateur soccer arena. :)

You fail to acknowledge that this is indeed the Kansas City media market and they're not able to book the 18,000 seat Sprint Center. Of course, that doesn't fit your narrative.

Listen, there is part of me that loves the fact the band still feels the need, has the desire, to tour. But you go too far in trying to create this false illusions this is some grand strategy of the band's. I mean, you claimed the reason they are playing secondary markets is because they could sell more in primary markets.

95% of your posts are insightful, and good reads. You're one of the best members here, and I look forward to reading your posts on most occasions. But on this one you're jumping the shark.

It's okay that KISS, 43 years in, is out doing smaller markets; by that I mean it's okay that's all they've got left at this point. And with that strategy is going to come some places that makes a fan wince.

Your attempt, desire, need...whatever it is...to constantly put liptstick on the pig is starting to dilute your otherwise excellent posts. It's like you're taking KISS' devolution to secondary and even third-rate markets personally.

Paul's recent comment at a show that they "are staying away from the bigger cities" is offensive to me. Why? Because it plays us as absolute fools who will drink the Stanley/Simmons Kool-Aid on demand. And if it's not that Paul was truing to pull one over, but really believes what he said, then it's even worse, because he has deluded himself to the point of caricature material.

It's obvious the end is near. I was hoping the band and some of its fans would have taken that fact with a little more class and dignity than with hyperbolic ruminations and, well, lies.

Here's where I believe we're at:

KISS, an extraordinary band with an amazing history, is nearing the end and is currently touring where they can tour: "B" and "C" markets. There may still be one more tour, a true farewell, that will sell well in the main markets, but that remains to be seen. Still, what the band has accomplished, in both a touring and recording sense, will definitely stand the test of the time. They will, without question, go down in rock history as one of the most iconic and influential bands, ever.

And that's it.

No exaggerations, no lies, just accepting what is.

If you mean that equation is the following, then I agree:

KISS cannot sell in "A" markets, so in order to tour they have to hit primarily "B" markets with a few "C" markets thrown in.

Yes, that does make sense.

If any band plays the "A" markets year after year after year the demand for tickets will drop most bands respond to that by taking a year or two off, KISS decided to bring the show to the "B" market wise move imo.

They don't have years left to be sitting around that'll come soon enough.

Grab that bull by the horns! :)

Just to follow up I checked setlist.fm, and it indicated that the same 16 song setlist was performed. After mixing it up a bit at the beginning of the tour they seemed to be settled on that setlist. I believe that is five shows in a row now.

Or wind up like Poison did. When they came back they headlining sheds, then Special guests, finally they were relegated to opening band on a 3 band ticket. Can't tour the same 30-40 places year after year.

Review from the Kansas City Star states the venue for last nights Independence show was about 80% full with attendance roughly 4k out of 5k. 80% sounds decent, but for such a large metro area (Kansas City) playing a smaller venue about 1/3rd the size of past venues they've played in the area, and not even able to sell it out does not look good.
