Looking at the lineup it reminds me how much better an opener Def Leppard was than Mötley Crüe.

Re: KISS Europe 2015 - Download, June 14
Great night.
Couple of quick points to note; curtain went less than half way up prior to the start due to the weather/wind, Gene's flying rig failed to work - at the end of God of Thunder the tech came to speak to Gene who promptly ripped the guy's cap from his head before throwing it to the ground and leaning in close for a few words, think IIRC Paul sang the same verse from IWMFLY twice. Not complaining, just a couple of 'oddities' that stood out from the norm.
Overall though a fine performance all round. Certainly nobody stood near me or overheard when leaving had any complaints either.

A great gig, albeit no full curtain drop or Simmons elevation. Just before SIOL the crowd were chantimg "UK Tour"
I think they re just becoming more and more popular in the uk.

Re: KISS Europe 2015 - Download, June 14
Everybody around me before the band came on was in their late teens / early 20s. When Paul asked who was seeing Kiss for the first time, it seemed like everybody between me & the stage raised their hand.
The last proper UK tour seems like 2 minutes ago to me but a large chunk of those seeing the band yesterday were too young for Download 2008 or the Sonic Boom shows in 2010. That's not to say that they would all fork out £50 a ticket if they come back to Arenas next year but shows like the one yesterday just extend the bands legacy.

Top top night,,felt as miffed as most when the God of Thunder never made it to the top of the Download stage ,real shame for the first time Kissers,BUT! all around me were plenty of new converts to the Army! Personally also enjoyed The Darkness,Billy Idol ,Slash and Motley, though was surprised Gene allowed Motley to upstage them with pyro ,flames etc.Fourth Kiss at Donington for me ,,Paul mentioned "will you have us back?" did he mean back at Download ? or a UK tour?,,,,,

The Bad
Mud,mud and more mud.
Car Parking
Overpriced food...(Food is a debatable description)
Overpriced Beer (See above description)
The Toilets
Not bumping into old friends (Pete,DaveyD etc)
The weather.(Did I expect any different)
The Good
Bumping into friends old and new (Rabant no idea that you were on this forum, did you see the Darkness?)
Heat....never heard of this band before but they were pretty good.
Blackberry Smoke,Billy Idol and Slash who all put on solid shows which took the atmosphere up a notch or two.
Motley Crue's stage show..Sadly Vince spoils the spectacle with his incoherent mumblings and the use of backing tracks is at times laughable.
KISS-Once again knocked it out of the ball park, lets hope this isnt the last time we will see them in the UK?

Re: KISS Europe 2015 - Download, June 14
So, after my day yesterday feeling like a zombie after my 8 hour journey home, here's my two-penneth
* KISS were awesome. My 19th show and easily one of the best I've been to.
* Due to the wind the intro curtain and Gene's flying were derailed.
* The staging, lights, pyro, lasers and graphics were stunning.
* Gene sang really well.
* Paul was OK. Not great vocally, but still a dynamo and an amazing frontman. He had the whole audience in the palm of his hand.
* The amount of younger fans and first timers, with their jaws on the floor was a joy to behold. Last time in 2008 they won over a whole new audience and I reckon it's the same this time.
* Tommy sound great. His tone was awesome. His playing crisp and tight, he looks great up there, as opposed to his uncomfortable and unsure first few years.
* The biggest surprise was Eric. When I saw them in 2012, I thought he looked bored and uninspiring. This time he was on fire. Creatures sounded insane.
* The finale was the most bombastic and incredible sight to behold since the London Olympics. Stunning.
* It's insane to me how Gene and Paul can still perform at this level, in those boots and all that gear, at their ages. The fact that they still give everything each and every night, to put on such an amazing night for the fans is incredible to me and they have my upmost respect at their dedication and craft.
* Motley were fantastic. Vince was Vince but as a whole they were great. Awesome show.
* Slash put on a solid show with a few GnR crowd pleasers thrown in.
* Surprise of the day was Billy Idol. He was brilliant. Looks and sounds exactly like he did in the 80's and ably assisted by the awesome Steve Stevens, his hits laden set was fantastic.
* Blackberry Smoke - Southern boogie at it's best, with a supercool frontman and really tight band.
* The British weather.........nuff said. Mud, more mud and just for good measure, a bit more mud.
All in all a brilliant day out, and when KISS have 85000 people drooling, you realise that they are such a special band. There really is no one who comes close. Even Paul was taken aback when the whole crowd started chanting "UK tour, UK tour, UK tour"
It's nights like this that must re-affirm their reasons for continuing. When they still entertain and dazzle the biggest, most hardcore rock/metal festival in the world, then you know that they are still on fire.
Awesome......just awesome

Re: KISS Europe 2015 - Download, June 14
This was my first time seeing Kiss live.
I really enjoyed it. The fact they put on a good show is not in question. Sure there was some dodgy vocals at times from Paul, but I don't think that detracts from the experience. It always sounds worse when you hear a yotube video back after the event, but in the moment I don't think its that bad. More than anything I was impressed with how good they were musically, I went in there with a pre-conceieved notion that they weren't a great live band. So I was happy to be proved wrong.
I'm clearly not a Kiss die hard, I enjoyed the set and they played plenty of songs I recognised. I liked the addition of Creatures of the Night. I would have liked to have seen Unholy and Crazy Crazy Nights added, but I'm sure everyone comes away from any show thinking I wish they'd played this or that. Lick it Up is the song that got me in to Kiss when my dad bought the 7" single back in the day, so I was pleased they played that, but the inclusion of Won't Get Fooled Again is awful.
The intro curtain didn't end up being raised fully due to the high wind I guess, so it was a bit Spinal Tap with the drum riser being visible above the curtain and the curtain drop being very undramatic. Gene didn't fly and he didn't seem happy that it didn't work for whatever reason. I was surprised they added an additional stage at a festival, so that was a good moment when Paul flew out to that. Of course the fireworks from that stage and Paul shining the spotlight on the crowd are easy wins to get the crowd going.
The end of the show was spectacular, I'm sure there was a kitchen sink there on stage as well as they pulled every trick in the book with the ticker tape and fireworks and risers etc.
Overall I was very impressed with them. If they come back to the UK I'd definitely go to see them again. It just reinforces my belief that when bands like Kiss, Maiden, Aerosmith, Leppard etc hang it up then who is coming through to put on such great shows with suchgreat back catalogues and longevity in their careers?
