Things in movies that annoy you

Post by Tail of a hurricane »

Not all movies do it, but every now and again a movie comes along with a really annoying scene, and can tarnish the whole movie.

I’m not a fan of movies which “break the fourth wall”. As soon as I see that, I turn it off. It’s really annoying, and takes away the realism and escapism of the whole movie. If I want to see someone talk to a camera, I may aswell watch a stage play.

Horrible blue screens that stand out a mile annoy me too.

Two actors supposedly facing each other in a scene (but aren’t) cause they are reading dummy cards beside the other actors head frustrates me, plus in some movies the lines they speak are so bad, it’s obvious they are reading them.

Some fight scenes in movies where the punches are nowhere near connecting the other person. Batman v Bane in “The Dark knight rises” is the worst. “The Godfather” fight in the street with James Caan and the trash can is absolutely terrible.

Ofcourse there’s goofs galore in movies, so I will leave them alone. I know a movie can’t always be “perfect”, but you’d think the editing could sometimes be better.

I hate when a movie, because of its subject matter, its cast, or the book its based on, comes off as smug and self-important. Lord of the Rings, for example, Apollo 13 ... anything that's just begging for Oscar nominations, rather than genuinely wanting to entertain.

One thing that always annoys me (in the movies) is seeing outdoor city scenes with crowds.

I can't stand it when people in the crowds look at the camera while the scene is being filmed.
Movies from the 70's and 80's were notorious for that.

“Out for justice” has a car chase scene where you can see the crowds either side of the street barricaded off and watching the car chase. So easily seen.

I agree that in certain movies, like Austin Powers, Wayne's World, and Deadpool, it's blatant and excessive and annoying, even though the characters are "supposed" to break the forth wall.

BUT. There is one instance that is my absolute favorite scene in a movie full of them.

^^That is a classic scene.

So is the one from "Animal House" when Bluto gives the "side look" while staring at that chick (in the window).

What cracks me up is that we all grew up seeing the Star Wars Incest Kiss and no one questioned it.
But nowadays, they put a message on the screen to warn everyone that a movie includes “smoking”.

I often get annoyed by variances of "... I'll explain, on the way," or "... I'll have to tell you later" when another character needs to be caught up on something. Or, when said character doesn't question what he's updated on, because the audience already knows about it. For example:

A monster might be stalking the group and offs one of them. Maybe the one guy saw it, or only discovered the remains. So, this other guy meets up with the first and asks where the victim is. He only gets told, "... dead," and nods his understanding. Aren't you going to ask, further? Get details? I understand that the pace of the film is the thing, but it can leap you out of the movie, because you recognize that there's abbreviated dialogue.

I don't really get the breaking the fourth wall problem. Sometimes it actually adds to the movie or it can be hilarious.

I can't remember the movie right now, but in the scene a dumb question is asked and the actor just quickly looks at the camera basically saying with his eyes that this guy is a fucking idiot and it is funny.

Ace, when that scene was filmed, Lucas had not yet decided to make Luke and Leia brother and sister. That was decided later.

What annoys me is when a good guy in a movie is on the run and picks up a weapon, normally a gun, but doesn't take any ammo from all the other guns laying around. Or when he takes a gun from a rack with ammo on it and still doesn't bag a few cases. It annoys the HELL out of me. Why not pick up two handguns instead of just one? grrr....

Good thing he didn’t decide to make them have incest babies.

Hmmm, come to think of it...is Rey really a Palpatine?

I blame Disney.

According to fandom, Palpatine either cloned himself as Rey's dad, or he knocked up Sly Moore, over here. A sexually active Palpatine ... don't let yourself 'see' it ... reject this theory, as I have!
