With Anthrax, Megadeth and Rob Zombie on the same bill, how could you go wrong? Best overall lineup of the three days!

I plan to sit in the bowl and enjoy.

KISS is the only band allotted more than an hour on Friday. They are allotted 90 minutes.

It's going to be a last minute decision for me......hate G.A. shows at this point in my life, and so does my wife. This is a nice soccer specific stadium, everywhere is a great view. Might just go to kick back in the upper seats and just enjoy the show(s).

Glad to hear there are really no bad seats.

Mine says a seat number also, but has general admission bowl on it. So I think the seat number is really irrelevant.

On the Amtrak Wolverine to Chicago!! Brother will pick me up then tomorrow Open Air with KISS!!!!

Edited because it is hard to type on a Rockin train, lol.

I've seen them a couple of times and I did this interview with them.... http://glaciallymusical.blogspot.com/20 ... uring.html

Their rhythm section left the band recently...and I'm hoping the newbies have that swing of the original guys.

Made it to Toyota Park. Sitting in Sec 128, about halfway up. Crobot is on now, and they're pretty decent. Falling In Reverse next on mainstage, then Anthrax!

Thanks. :)

Welcome To Fat City is last year's album and I've heard nothing more about their next record..it'll be interesting that's for sure.

They've got two really...Welcome to Fat City and Something Supernatural...there's a four song EP, which I have on vinyl, but all those songs are on Supernatural.

Ugh, Falling in Reverse is fucking awful. Ronnie Radke is one of the most overrated vocalists/personalities ever, and he's a total putz. I also cannot stand his vocals at all. It's like the dude has zero clue about the volume/pitch of his vocals, and just does whatever, at least on record. He just sounds like he's trying to do a musical number or whatever, but doesn't have the vocal chops to pull it off, so he sounds like a really bad audition for a Broadway musical. Live, I'm sure it's even worse. Plus he's been a dick at shows to fans, and Fronz of Attila called him out and made fun of him for awhile about it, and I hoped he was going to beat his ass, but instead they made up and were probably big spoon little spoon that night. Ronnie Radke has always been and will always be a total piece of dog shit.

I never really knew how to describe Crobot....it was like they were four guys all from different kinds of bands and some how it works together....

Singer was from some 70's drug band, the guitarist from some southern rock band, the bassist from a funk band, and a rock drummer...and boom...Crobot...

Whatever the hell that is.

Just got home after scoring a VIP ticket at the last minute. Got their in time for Megadeth and was blown away. I can only describe it as a complete guitar assault. Loved their set.

This was the first time I've seen Rob Zombie, and he and his band put on a very entertaining show. John 5 is a great guitarist, although I don't feel Zombie's music highlights it enough.

KISS up and no surprises, but I always enjoy the boys. Old (and getting older) reliable. At one point (Nibs take note) Paul announced the crowd at 55,000. If true, it was definitely the largest crowd for a KISS show in all the years coming to Chicago. Obviously KISS wasn't the only draw with this great line-up, but they were the headliner.

Rock was most definitely far from dead on this night, and there's still the rest of the weekend featuring Disturbed, Metal Church, Steel Panther, Korn, Slayer, and Ozzy among others.

KISS was blown away by Rob Zombie. I am a casual fan of Rob Zombie and love KISS. That's how good he was and how stale KISS was.

Anthrax was great and Megadeth even better. The best KISS song of the day was Parasite and it was played by Anthrax.

It's hard to believe there were 55,000 fans there. A lot of fans left after Rob Zombie and even more during Shock Me. This was my 25th time seeing KISS and it was bland to say the least.

Stone Sour - overrated; Slayer - meh; Ozzy - when's the last time he was actually entertaining live? They blew their entire load on Friday.

As for Saturday, I don't blame you. Most of those bands are only moderately interesting at best aside from Steel Panther.

Rock was most definitely far from dead on this night, and there's still the rest of the weekend featuring Disturbed, Metal Church, Steel Panther, Korn, Slayer, and Ozzy among others.
Thanks for the heads up CS. I'm glad you had a good time.

As for the 55,000? My initial research tells me that can only be a cumulative figure. I think the venue only holds about half of that. We'll see.

After much debating, got a couple of bowl GA tickets and off I went. I had to close shop @ 6pm and then haul ass down tot Toyota Park. Got there and parked by 7:50. Megadeath was still on stage as we were walking in.

Keep in mind this isn't your typical KISS concert. This is/was an all day music festival, so the atmosphere and scene was quite different. Trust me, there were quite a few so blasted off drugs and/or alcohol that they never saw Zombie or KISS. I could of had a great time just people watching.

It was so packed up in the concourse that my wife and I said fuck it, we went in the Bob Uecker seats up top and settled in. Zombie came on right as scheduled 8:20 pm and played for an exact hour. He played his hits along with the Ramones and shit, well I forgot. I can tell you this, that crowd was there to see Zombie and he commanded that crowd that whole show. John 5 did a solo spot that should have melted Tommy's makeup. Zombie was great, his band was great and his presence was great. My 1st time seeing him live and was quite impressed. The mosh pits were fun to watch.

This is where I have to be brutally honest, and it is sad. Kiss played on a small set up on a huge stage. A festival type drum riser and some side screens with lots of pyro (pyro was needed). The drum riser was chained and went up & down. Much to my surprise, Gene did fly, and so did Paul. Both on set-ups I have never seen before. I have been to 50 plus KISS shows.

KISS came on about 15 minutes late because they couldn't get the video set ups correct. When the KISS curtain fell and there they were , the crowd was just silent. All the energy from Zombie was gone. The sound mix sounded like mono on the first 2 songs with Gene's muddled bass over powering everything. After the 1st two songs, the mass exodus of people began. Paul claimed 55,000 people. Nope, that's 55,000 sold for the whole festival(most of which are 3 day pass variety). It's a 20,000 seat soccer stadium, plus the in-field. A good guess of 30K for Zombie , by time KISS ended, 15K would be generous.

Paul's voice is now cartoonish and cringe worthy. He no longer commands the stage . Standing in one place wiggling your torso and arms is not the Paul we all once knew. Honestly it felt like Paul was phoning it in last night. On the other hand, Gene still can belt it out, but he is definitely singing in a different register. Tommy should be signing 3 songs and Eric at least 2 now. I honestly was saddened watching more and more people leave after each song finished. Eric is still the backbone driving this band. The show, the movements, everything is so predictable now that I found myself not enjoying it at times. I did however enjoy Flaming Youth, I Love It Loud, War Machine( Gene still never getting the 2nd verse correct, as usual there was no voice of reason and the arrows never did fly) Love Gun. Paul was horrible on Say Yeah, Eric saves that song with his vocals. Paul pulled a major Gene last night, totally screwed up Psycho Circus and forgot the words. At one point he was just making shit up. Again , Tommy on that one really demonstrates who played the solo the album version of P.C. Seeing KISS last night and in Rockford just last year were two different levels of this band.

KISS, thank you for the 40 plus years, but it's time to call it a day. Only reason I could see myself going to another KISS show at this point is if they play the Ace card.

A sad day for a lifelong KISS fan, Zombie really did blow KISS away last night.

Not to sound too repetitive, but here's a one-stop set list:

Deuce
Shout it Out loud
Lick It Up
I love It loud
Love Gun
Firehouse (Gene fire)
Shock Me
Flaming Youth
God Of Thunder (Gene blood)
Say Yeah
War Machine
Psycho Circus (Paul fly)
Black Diamond
Rock And Roll All Nite

Encores:
Cold Gin
Detroit Rock City

Firehouse and Say Yeah were the surprises of the evening. And the encores were a nice touch, considering there is likely a cuefew and they played until after 11:30.

Anthrax and Megadeth were in fine form, but no matter how hard I try, I cannot get into Rob Zombie.

Sure is, and it sucks to say it.

I got an offer this past Tuesday from a friend who lives about two hours out of Chicago, he had an extra ticket, and wanted me to crash at his house. So, it would have been a very cheap concert, but still I declined.

Now my buddy is a HUGE KISS fan. He's been on every cruise since the second one, collects just about everything, etc. I haven't told him yet that I'm done with the band at this point, and am only interested in their glorious past. It would devastate him, he's such a huge fan.

I figured last night must have kind of sucked, because I got about a dozen texts from him the hours leading up to the show, the final one of "THE CURTAIN!!!".

And then one text after that, around midnight: "They killed it"

You could read the disappointment in his lone text.

It's time, KISS. Enough is enough.
