Re: 2017 Show #4 - Reno, NV
Size of venue meant no flying for G or P. Drum lift, cherry-pickers for end. Sparse stage, but a long show. Set feels odd right now. Thrilled to hear the return of Say Yeah and glad FY remained. There'll always be analysis, but it was balanced for the casuals and a couple of gems for the dorks. Just wish Gene would do the bass fiff to Mr. Blackwell as the intro to GOT. 20 notes, diehard's minds blown. Paul looked great, he and G worked their asses off. Total respect. Tommy and Eric held things down. A bit sloppy, but fuck me saw KISS tonight. All good, eating cookies and milk!

So glad to hear that! I'm getting really pumped up by this — I'm seeing KISS with my family in two weeks. My boys love KISS and have never seen them, so this is a special one.Dr Like wrote:Great great show! Saw Admin in the drink line and we had a fun chat. Had a great time - show was great, people were awesome, it was a great night. Longer review when I'm on a real computer and not posting from my phone.
So much fun!!!!!

I like the variety of that set list. Why Psycho Circus is at the end of the set is a bit odd though.
Overall if that's the set for this tour can't complain too much!!!

Re: 2017 Show #4 - Reno, NV
Yeah "Psycho Circus" at the end of the show is kinda surprising.
I don't think it's among their best songs to begin with, and the "Welcome to the show!" bit is a bit late in arriving....but oh well.
I hope Paul said his "We're only getting staaaaaaarted!" right after that one...
"Say yeah" is a cool surprise imo.
"Hide your heart" too is a surprise, not the coolest of the cool, but I guess Paul gets the crowd singing on that one.
"Crazy, Crazy Nights" is sort of an expected surprise... It also makes total sense to play that one in Europe, and this show is probably regarded as a sort of warm up before the tour.
Overall some nice changes in the setlist regarding the "Paul-songs", nothing in the "gene department" and Tommy doing " Shock me" is actually a bit boring...It's not that I think he steps on holy ground, just that he is not Ace, and that song needs Ace...
Eric singing Black Diamond works because it's a really great song....
Shock me is just OK, but Ace brings it to life. Because it showcased HIS personality.
Wonder if they will bring "I was made for loving you" back.

Nothing. Wasn't expected or the sort of event for that sort of thing. And if it gets edited out of the official photo wouldn't be shocked or hurt either.metaldad wrote:Awesome picAdmin wrote:Too funny. They were gracious.

I watched a Flaming Youth video, and that seems to be one of the songs that really gets everyone going. Tommy's voice, at least I think it's Tommy, fills out the chorus really well.
During the intro of I Love It Loud there's another "hey asshole, spotlight!" moment from Gene

Keith shared the set list. It was listed before RARAN but was thankfully scratched. Show was long enough without it and it's one of the songs I can live without hearing.Supertrooper wrote:Interestingly enough; they didn't play " I was made for lovin' you".

I would imagine it would be a big crowdpleaser, like it is in all other parts of the world they play, that's why I was surprised.

That is a great idea for gene to play the bass for blackwell before his blood spitting.
You're absolutely right. If he did that I'd go nuts.
But I'm more than happy with that setlist they played and the clips I've seen sound great

Re: 2017 Show #4 - Reno, NV
I'm not seeing the Mr Blackwell thing being all that cool. 5 people recognize it, and 4 of them are pissed it isn't the full song. Otherwise, the show seems pretty cool other than Psycho Circus' strange placement in the setlist. Either 1st/2nd, or not at all.

Re: 2017 Show #4 - Reno, NV
Opening song from the show; and the only full song I videoed at the show. Married with alternate non-phone audio. Includes a bit of the beginning of "Love Gun." Dreadful seating position, but that's where I pressed "STOPPED" to enjoy as much of the show as possible in a fanboy haze... A few other partial clips will be shown as part of Ep.121 of the KISSFAQ Podcast.

Great write up Dr Like. Sounds like an awesome night.
I would also welcome back Eric's bazooka stunt. That was a fun effect. As for the KISS logo, using the 4 letters as giant individual screens would be a great idea I think. Something new and different.

Good and detailed review - the qoutation below, I think is a good observation....
All the talk about those voice-issues risk exaggerating the problems.....and perhaps sometimes criticizing him unfairly.......Dr Like wrote:.... I have no problem with Paul's voice and its natural aging process but the criticisms of it are always in the back of my head when watching them.
