Good show. Psycho Circus has to go as an opener. It just doesn't work. Paul had to dodge a spider leg during War Machine.
Had a great time. Great turnout. Safe travels to you all going to see KISS' 40th anniversary tour.

Re: 7/6/14 - Chula Vista, CA
I was at the show tonight in Chula Vista
went with my sister and my girlfriend..and yes, we were walk ups and we got killer seats!!!
Ran into Bruce Kulick
heres a pic of bruce with me and my sister
he was super cool...as always.
Def Leppard really put on a great show.
im not a super fan but I did grow up with MTV and a transistor radio, so I do enjoy the singles... and boy did they deliver.
my sister, my girlfriend and the rest of the crowd had a blast rocking out and singing along to def leppard ...one hit after another
this was their night
now my "two cents" on kiss
I aint no hater.. I love kiss ALL ERAS ALL PLAYERS.
they opened with PC... man was that a bad move. i was hoping for KOTNW... they went into deuce as a second song and it sort of picked up... but they never brought the crowd back to the level of excitement that DEF LEPP did.
not hating .. just reporting what I witnessed.
I also noticed that the volume for KISS was a bit lower than def lepps...
my girlfriend also noticed it.
it didn't have the same punch as def lepps set for some reason...you could barley hear Tommy interpret ACES juicy licks.
without getting too long winded I told my girl that it might have to do with pauls vox...
and that also leads us to the tuning... I have no idea what tuning kiss is playing in now.
but man does it sound weird.
the flow of tonight setlist was kinda expected...we did get to hear hotter than hell...that was cool
before we knew it.. they went into black diamond followed by DRC then RNRAN.
It was a good crowd.. much bigger than the last time KISS where here with Motley Crue.
and im pretty confidant that Def lepp had something to do with that.
lets not forget that the Mexican boarder is 15 mins from chula vista.
so more then half of the crowd is made up of hard core KISS loving rock n roll fans from mexico/ tia juana
we have to take those numbers into consideration.
anyways...I had fun
the weather was perfect for an out door summer concert...
im glad I went.

Opening with PC is beyond moronic. Talk about killing the show instantly. I noticed that last year too. Hard to bounce back from a dreadful start to the show like that.

See, that's really odd, because the night before KISS totally owned the show. The crowd was into Def Leppard for sure on some of the songs (the crowd got irritated with Def Leppard during the ballads, especially Two Steps Behind, and about half the crowd sat down during those songs), but with KISS they were into the whole show (every song) and the crowd was louder and more visually enthusiastic than they were for Def Leppard. By a wide margin. It wasn't even close.hooligan77 wrote:

And even with the bands' T-Shirts, KISS outnumbered Def Lep by about 20-1 (and that includes the Union Jack shirts as Def Lep shirts).
KISS owned the Irvine show, and I'd imagine that with the same set list and same visuals that KISS probably owned San Diego as well.
Anyway, I'm glad I went to the Irvine gig - a better venue with better sight lines (and the show was awesome).

Video before the curtain drop, pans audience twice, not a dog as we thought it could be.

Do you not like PC at all, or just as an opener? On the Psycho Circus tour, I thought it worked fine. Maybe they'll open with Modern Day Delilah soon...Smekaren wrote:Opening with PC is beyond moronic. Talk about killing the show instantly. I noticed that last year too. There have been variations in at least half of the eight show so far, so I don't think you can say the setlist is on "kruise" control. My favorite opener at this point would be I Stole Your Love. Or how about REALLY mixing it up and opening with "Makin' Love"?HOFCity wrote:Someone please......tell me why this is or why they're alreadyAce The Plumber wrote:no more King of the night time world?

Re: 7/6/14 - Chula Vista, CA
So we made it to the parking lot and after a few beers we headed inside the venue, it was really cool to see dads with their little kids and then watching them rockin' out to the KISS set was priceless, it reminded me of my first KISS show and how much I was really into it.
I didn't get to see the opening act but we could hear them clearly as we were already inside the venue and the only thing I can say is that their vocalist has some good set of pipes.
First of all, I've always been a Def Leppard fan, I've seen them twice over the years and for me this pairing was a dream come true. So I was really there to see both bands but mainly KISS as they're my all time favorite band.
On with the show:
Def Leppard's set was filled with the hits and some good early stuff, no filler, IMO, and boy they were LOUD. The crowd was really into them and they didn't disappoint. Joe Elliott might not have the voice (but really, which singer has the voice they had in their youth?) but he still sound good, both guitar players are fantastic, Viv and Phil are top notch guitarists, Rick Savage looked cool and he seems to be enjoying the whole night doing choruses and getting the crowd into it and Rick Allen never ceases to amaze me what he is capable of doing with his condition. All in all I think it was a great set and a great night for Def Leppard, they were loud and the crowd was really into it.
KISS brought their new spider stage set which looks really cool in person, definately not the same as in the videos, their entrance is always a highlight of the show, Pyscho Circus as the opener I thought it sounded great but then I'm a "diehard" fan and know most of their catalogue and then I realized not all of the people in attendance knew the song, Deuce followed and they started to pick momentum, I did noticed KISS sound was definately not that powerful as the Leps until after the 4th or 5th song that it seemed to crank up. It was good for me and my brother to hear songs like Psycho Circus, War Machine and Hide your heart but in a 14 set song and following Def Leppard's set I just think KISS should've played more "known stuff". Paul sounds great when he wants to but someone needs to tell him to stop doing that stuff in between songs as even my friend said to me "what the hell is wrong with him? Can't he speak in his own voice?" he just tries too hard and IMO it gets to the point of sounding ridiculous and I'm not hating, I love this band. In regards to Tommy and Eric, you can say whatever you want about them but THEY ARE currently the engine of the band, specially Eric, I enjoy watching him play drums, he seems to enjoy himself on every song and he brings so much energy to their set, whoever says he doesn't play with feeling or soul than I just don't what you are talking about.
All in all it was a great night for a rock concert, beautiful sunday with good weather, an evening with my brother and a couple of friends and spending the time with thousands of Def Leppard and KISS fans.
At the end of the day what mattered was the fans in attendance enjoying their favorite band and having the time of their lives.

Re: 7/6/14 - Chula Vista, CA
You'll enjoy. They should call it the "Best of Both Worlds" tour. Sure, it's highly condensed, but it's done well. Over recent tours I've found taking off my "diehard" firehat and accepting the show for what it is helps. The people in the audience around me have never been calling out for "The Oath" or "Saint & Sinner" so I've accepted that I'll enjoy it while it lasts. For both bands! One last show for me this summer: Crue, and then I've hit my big three.gappvembe wrote:Nice.
