I thought it was a pretty decent set-list from last night, I'm soooo glad Dr. Love, Hotter Than Hell, Lick It Up, Love Gun (The main ones) are gone now.

And if you don't like it FU.

Glad they brought back King of the Nighttime World, Hide Your Heart, Makin' Love (which I haven't heard live - all the times I've seen them in Concert, which I hope they play it in Toronto) and Christeen Sixteen is nice to see brought back.

As for the rest of the songs I could live with it. I know they HAVE to play Detroit Rock City and Rock & Roll All Nite that's pretty much a givin'.

As for the Solos I think there pass-say now and I do not miss them. I think since they're only playing 13-14 songs per-night I don't think you need a rest or a short breather.

I think some of you need to relax. This IS only the first night for God sakes, let's see 2-4 shows in if they really do change the set-list up. Then you can complain, but for now it is what it is. :)

[quote="Admin"][quote="kissno1"]From Kissonline "KISS and Def Leppard launched their new Tour in a big way last night in Salt Lake City. The bands set an attendance record at the USANA Amphitheatre with a SOLD OUT crowd of over 20,000!"

Yes people, please tell me how KISS is doomed.[/quote]

No offence, but they can say anything they want. Since the boxscores for most of their tours are now suppressed there's no way to actually confirm any attendance figure until a tour re-cap is published (newspaper review figures are guesstimates often too). I'm not calling them liars, just saying that the attendance is unconfirmed. However, visually a packed venue is hard to argue against ;)[/quote]

but my question is how many of those are comps, family packs (4 tix for $27) radio giveaways, guest list for both acts, etc
so like you said Julian, the box scores will tell all not really a visual aspect should be the final tally IMO

Looking over the set list...it's a decent bunch of song choices but to not promote Monster? C'mon...I'd change it a little bit to this:

Psycho Circus
King of the Night Time World
Cold Gin
Hell Or Hallelujah
War Machine
Hide Your Heart
Christine Sixteen
Shout It Out Loud
Makin' Love
Black Diamond
Let Me Go, Rock 'N' Roll
Detroit Rock City
Rock and Roll All Nite

Are there speakers in the Spider? If not, how did Tommy manage to get that feedback during the intro?

I was thinking about the same thing. Maybe the feedback intro was pre-recorded..? Have to listen to the next shows if it is identical.

I don't know about the rest of you, but I am really, REALLY fucking surprised that there is no Love Gun....Probably the first major stadium tour since the Rock and Roll Over Tour to not have it.

Paul simply can't sing it anymore because it's in too high of a register - I'd be surprised if it ever came back into the set. That's why a song like Hide Your Heart makes an appearance, because Paul can sing in a lower register. A 60-something year old man simply can't do what a 20-something can. Time marches on.

Why did they bring back Makin' Love? Paul struggled singing that back in 2004 when he still had a decent voice. I don't want to know how badly he sounded last night singing that song.

You'd be surprised how much sustain you can get out of a Les Paul through a cranked tube amp at stage volume. Harmonic feedback (feedback that exists on a harmonic node relative to the note being played - i.e. a fifth above, or an octave above like Tommy does on the KOTNW intro) can also be coaxed out of an electric instrument at practically any volume no matter how far from the nearest speaker you are. It's only [i]microphonic[/i] feedback that requires being in close proximity to a speaker. Microphonic feedback does tend to make harmonic feedback come out more easily, but it can also cause feedback at all kinds of non-relative pitches as well.

I record harmonic feedback overdubs on guitar tracks at home all the time, and I record through a silent line-out on my amp straight to my computer using speaker sim software. There literally isn't any sound coming out of the amp speaker at all, and I can still create feedback with enough effort.

*Edit* Why is bbcode completely disabled? Makes it look rather silly when you're trying to quote a post...

Agreed. Tom could also have his tech activate a sustainer pedal for 'im... and there are dozens out there that will do this easily. Myself, I simply use either sheer volume or a Bad Horsie 2 wah stomped to a certain point along the pedal's travel. Works like a charm.

Kiss seemed especially determined to shake things up this time around, forgoing traditional concert staples such as ‘Deuce,’ ‘Lick it Up,’ ‘God of Thunder’ and even the mighty ‘Love Gun’ in favor of a set list that cast a spotlight on some under-appreciated gems from their 40-year career. They returned ‘King of the Night Time World’ to show-opening status for the first time in five years, moved ‘Psycho Circus’ back to accompany singer Paul Stanley‘s nightly flight into the audience, and even dusted off the late ’80s single ‘Hide Your Heart’ early in the set.

If the opening night is any indication, it would also appear that ‘Makin’ Love’ and ‘Christine Sixteen’ have been promoted to full-time status following their frequent inclusions on the group’s 2013 overseas tour. Nailen reports that Kiss “delivered what the fans love about them — massive visual effects set to the sound of old favorites like ‘I Love It Loud’ and ‘Shout It Out Loud.’

A warm summer night saw music legends KISS and Def Leppard rock an estimated 20,000 people at Usana Amphitheatre in West Valley City.

KISS lived up to its billing as one of the best live acts in rock ’n’ roll, lighting up the Utah night sky with pyrotechnics, confetti and anthemic songs.

Opening song » "King of the Nightime World," played with fire shooting behind the band as bassist Gene Simmons and guitarist and lead singer Paul Stanley strutted around the stage.

Highlight » A dual encore of "Detroit Rock City" and "Rock and Roll All Night" saw the crowd explode with applause as white confetti rained down, three band members were elevated above the stage and Stanley smashed his guitar into three pieces.

Crowd favorite » For the seventh song of the set, Simmons "vomited" his signature fake blood and was raised to a microphone high above the stage. The blood dripped down his metallic chest plate as he sang "I Love It Loud."

Best quotes » "We go way back in Salt Lake City, before some of you were even in Salt Lake City," Stanley said before "Shout It Out Loud," referring to one of the band’s early shows at the Salt Palace. "People say, ‘Salt Lake City? Isn’t that where all the Mormons are?’ But you’re some of the finest, most partying people we’ve ever come across."

In the crowd » Stanley performed his signature stage trick during "Psycho Circus," flying high above the crowd and landing on a platform, where he played the song in the middle of the audience.

Low note » Stanley’s voice gave out early on in the show and was sporadic throughout as he struggled to hit certain notes. The band also played a string of lesser-known songs that saw the crowd lose some interest instead of classics like "Love Gun," "Lick It Up," and "Strutter."
