Homer Simpson wrote:By the way, just a quick observation....

Def Leppard played a set pretty much consisting of their hits and concert staples and most of the comments have praised their setlist.

Kiss did the same and the comments have been mixed. I wouldn't be surprised to find out on Def Leppard forums that their fans have mixed feelings about their set list and are a little more favorable to Kiss'.

Based on the comments about Def Leppard's setlist, it's easy to see why Kiss plays what they do.
I would imagine they are having exactly the same arguement over there as you said, but flipping the bands around:

"Not Foolin and Hysteria AGAIN??! Shouldnt they retire those, same songs year in, year out..At least Kiss brought out some old classics!"
:D :D

Personally: Nice setlist, Id be very happy to have seen that, though it DOES seem a bit short, can anyone who was there confirm it? Still, first night of the tour, I can see a few things chopping and changing along the way.
As for being Paul-lite? Given the problems over recent years maybe this is them finally being realistic and accepting the fact, rather than just down-tuning and hoping things get better? Again, time will tell.

Everyone seems to have had a great night, and to be honest I wish Id have been there.

If this is Kiss in 2014 then it`s doing a good job with what it has. :thumleft:

Opening the show with "King of the night time world"

JUST LIKE THE "DYNASTY" TOUR 1979 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Is it my imagination, or have they finally kicked it up a notch and are playing the song's faster?

I gotta say... not a bad little set list for the time allotted. Sure... there was no Oath, Let Me Know, or Room Service... BUT I love the addition of the following:

King of the Night Time World
Hide Your Heart
Christine Sixteen
Makin' Love

Not rarities, but I like opening with KOTNW. Maybe HYH is a rarity because other than maybe the Kruise, it hasn't been played in make-up (I think). Great job pacing for Paul's voice.

Still not enough to get me to pay that much for tix... but I do like the additions and SOME subtractions(Bored with LIU and LG). It will be a game day (or day before) decision whether or not I hit Tampa. If I had money coming out of my a$$ these days I would go in a heartbeat. Bummer, really would like to take my kids to a Kiss show before they hang it up. If it's not meant to be, then it's not!

Paul sounds OK, considering his current abilities.

I'm not crazy about KOTNTW as an opener, though. It lacks drive (at least in this version) and punch to be a good opener. But it's still a good song.

Paul sings "Hide Your Heart" at the Meet and Greets pretty well, I'm interested to hear him sing it electrified.

I stand corrected, I'd say that is a fairly shaken up set - No Deuce, Love Gun, Lick It Up, Firehouse & God Of Thunder. I could live without SIOL & PC (how about Parasite & Domino instead :) ) but is good to see HYH & C16 in the set.

Also good that they are recognising the state of Pauls voice & constructing the set more around Gene & Eric sung songs.

Well, that's out of the way. He did spit blood.

Paul sounds surprisingly good in the KOTNTW video.

Always been a fan of KOTNW as an opener, sounded great, one question though, how long has ERIC been wearing the chikara patches on his jacket?
Although it dates back to HTH id more associate that with ERIC CARR, wouldnt you?

He's been wearing the patches since the last American Idol appearance, if I remember correctly.

Interesting set. Not mind blowing, but at least a little different. Sorry to see Deuce is out again, but I'm ok w/dipping LG and LIU. Nice to see KOTNW.

The intro for KONTW didn't seem as drawn out as MDD or PC.

My point on Tommys vibrato on the sustained intro note from the other KOTNTW thread, played out exactly here.......it was problematic to say the least... I wont say any more than that as it seems to really upset a few people....... So I'll leave that one for now......

Besides that - yeah it did work quite well as an opener, a killer tune is a killer tune!.. Paul staying in a relatively comfortable vocal range too....... Nice!

Looks like Gene wasn't so full of crap when he posted about a sold-out show. Where are all the haters now?

Not saying every show will sell this well, and as usual on most Kiss tours there are a few dogs, but this tour will do ok.

Great Opener , just like I posted it would be. Intro Builds nicely with Pyro

They played it at the Alive II tempo that gives it that old Kiss spirit

I don't see what everyone is complaining about , for 13 songs , I think its a great set list.

If some of you want to hear deep cuts, go on a Kruise. There are your deep cuts

Rock On

Exactly

Some songs just don't work when you play so many measures of the intro.

It's great to see this tune in the set list-I would shuffle it back to #2 or #3. Maximum punch for the opener. Psycho Circus works better. Or Deuce. Something that helps the show take off. KOTNTW is a classic tune, great to see the setlist changed up, just not so sure it's the best opener. Just my opinion. If I were there in person, I would be singing every single line.

Anybody know why Thayer and singer were not given a song to sing?

Do people want to hear Thayer and Singer sing classic KISS songs or their own songs like When Lightning Strikes or All For The Glory?

Yes, he probably did sing Black Diamond. I guess the idea is to play the hits, so I would imagine Thayer has no hits but the real spaceman does and he's not in KISS.

No offence, but they can say anything they want. Since the boxscores for most of their tours are now suppressed there's no way to actually confirm any attendance figure until a tour re-cap is published (newspaper review figures are guesstimates often too). I'm not calling them liars, just saying that the attendance is unconfirmed. However, visually a packed venue is hard to argue against ;)

True, it is not set in stone & there are no hard, concrete facts documented to back this up but I am pretty sure Paul's kids won't be starving after this tour & pretty sure KISS isn't doomed. Who knows, when the actual numbers come out they might have only pulled in 19.469 fans

Watching the opener on YouTube was fun. I like KOTNW as the opening song....as said before, it doesn't seem to drag like some of the others. As much as I really dislike current KISS and Paul's struggling voice, I could not help but smile watching that video and kind of wishing I was going to be at the show tonight in Denver.
