Re: 7/20/14 - Raleigh, NC
every time i get out, they pull me back in
last week, my 7-year old daughter saw some kiss clips on youtube, and i mentioned about taking her older brother to see 'em 4 years ago in charlotte. while she took it in stride, i could clearly tell that bugged her, lol....so i decided i'll surprise her tonight with tix to this show, and the brownie points i'll earn will probably last until christmas. bought some cheapie tix in the back row near the aisle, so she could either stand on her chair or stand slightly outside the aisle for a decent view. i'll post a pic with her, just in case someone's thinking i made it up as an excuse to go
that said, while the crowds have been big for the other shows up to this point, raleigh still has an alarmingly high number of blue seats on the ticketmaster seating chart....as of last night, maybe 75-80% reserved seats still available, maybe even more than that. if you think i'm trying to be dramatic, see for yourself. could be one of those shows where everyone gets upgraded in order to fill up the reserved seats. no worries....my daughter has never been to a concert before, so in her eyes it'll still probably look like half-a-million in attendance, lol....

First off I'm glad to hear you're gonna make it out to a show, whatever the reason. You won't be disappointed.Vandelay Industries wrote:every time i get out, they pull me back in

As for attendance...as far as the interactive map, it looks like one of the weakest ones to date. But looks can be deceiving. There's always the walk up, which seems to be a substantial amount so far on this tour. Another thing is the lawn, as I've stated before I honestly believe the exorbitant prices of pavilion seats has pushed an abnormally high amount of patron on to the lawn. With day of sales and upgrades, when the show starts you might see the reserved sections packed to capacity. Either way...definitely not a show to be thumping your chest on...as far as attendance goes that is.
Enjoy the show.
Edit: My eyes see 60% reserved seats available. Add that to a laundry list of YET another thing we disagree on.

apart from a few light drops that lasted only a few minutes, it was great concert weather considering it was mid-july.
turned out to be a nice crowd. couldn't give you an exact number 'cuz there were some scattered empty seats here & there, but most of those blue dots shown on TM's site the night before somehow managed to get filled, and the lawn was pretty packed.
my daughter's fave songs from the night were "shout it out loud", "i love it loud", "lick it up", and last but certainly not least "rock and roll all nite"....she was SO dying to see the RARAN finale, she almost wanted to bypass some other songs to get to it, lol....afterwards, she said was glad she got to wait for it, 'cuz there were alot of other things she enjoyed. she got a laugh when paul said they were gonna "blow alot of crap up tonight"
when thayer did the rocket effect, she exclaimed "hey, that's just like the way eaglebones does it!"....if you're one of the tiny minority who ever watched 'the aquabats! super show!', then you'll know what she meant
she's sleeping like a baby right now, and i'm planning to do the same in a few minutes.....long-azz car ride.

Nice reports guys. Even when sometimes things can get a bit jaded in Kissworld as soon as kids start getting into them it starts becoming magical again when you see how much they love the experience.

Sounds like she had a blast. The two shows I took my daughter to were among my favorites. Just watching her take everything in, and have so much fun was amazing. She knows the different players, but invested the daily controversies here...She just thought it was an amazing concert. Glad to see others experience the same.Vandelay Industries wrote:apart from a few light drops that lasted only a few minutes, it was great concert weather considering it was mid-july.

hard to tell. all the reserved sections were much more filled than not, but a few seats here, a few seats there looked unsold. the lawn was packed. this pic doesn't exactly tell much, but it's all i have, lol (i strolled over to the "family" lawn section to take this pic, which was the only area that had open space).....kissthat wrote:THANKS for the review Vandy. i'm hesitant to put a guess-timate on the attendance, because the farewell tour attendance was reported as 10,500 there....being i was at that show too, unless thousands of people hopped the turnstiles, my eyes said there was NO possible way that was true. but if you put a gun to my head....maybe 13-14,000?

it's a 'seinfeld' joke, courtesy of george costanza. as for tigerdroppings, it's frequented by fans of all SEC schools including kentucky, so i guess there's something in common with both boards after all :mrgreen:j_rod24 wrote:lol

Very cool! 10 years ago my daughter wanted to go and I wasn't sure how the lawn crowd would be so I didn't want to take. Now as much as I beg and pleaded she had no interest in going this time, unless her boyfriend went to. Course if I could go back I would've taken her in 04.Vandelay Industries wrote:apart from a few light drops that lasted only a few minutes, it was great concert weather considering it was mid-july.

turned out to be a nice crowd. couldn't give you an exact number 'cuz there were some scattered empty seats here & there, but most of those blue dots shown on TM's site the night before somehow managed to get filled, and the lawn was pretty packed.
my daughter's fave songs from the night were "shout it out loud", "i love it loud", "lick it up", and last but certainly not least "rock and roll all nite"....she was SO dying to see the RARAN finale, she almost wanted to bypass some other songs to get to it, lol....afterwards, she said was glad she got to wait for it, 'cuz there were alot of other things she enjoyed. she got a laugh when paul said they were gonna "blow alot of crap up tonight"
when thayer did the rocket effect, she exclaimed "hey, that's just like the way eaglebones does it!"....if you're one of the tiny minority who ever watched 'the aquabats! super show!', then you'll know what she meant
she's sleeping like a baby right now, and i'm planning to do the same in a few minutes.....long-azz car ride.
i saw this stage last year in simpsonville, SC....however, my memory says there weren't any lifts (besides eric) in simpsonville, which there were in raleigh, so that helped capture the "bigness" of the stage this time around. also, the spider "arms" seemed more random & animate in raleigh, where in simpsonville they were more lethargic by comparison. the pyro was pretty identical, although it seemed like they amped it up during "love gun", far more than IWMFLY in simpsonville (IWMFLY was paul's "flying" song in simpsonville).
setlist? well, it wasn't the best, it wasn't the worst, but my daughter was OK with it, so it was OK with me, lol....however, having seen "psycho circus" as an opener last year, i wish they still had KOTNW as the opener like they did earlier in the tour. for some reason, "PC" just doesn't grab me as an opener....oh well. i guess "hide your heart" was the one song i hadn't seen in a long time, everything else i'd seen in recent years. i might be in the minority, but i actually enjoy hearing "lick it up" in concert (admittedly, not so much on album), especially with the "won't get fooled again" bit in the middle....when paul asks the crowd to clap their hands at various times throughout the show, "lick it up" is one song where they really respond. i'm not keen on ILIL, but like i said in an earlier post, my daughter enjoys it, so i got to enjoy it through her eyes...."i forgot it was kiss who played this song!" she said, so it was a bonus for her, ha...
i can't remember the quote specifically, but paul made a sexual innuendo pertaining to "southern hospitality". my daughter said "i don't get it". i didn't explain.
the "paul's voice" debate? well, i can't say it's better, but he finally seems to have self-awareness about it, so he kept himself in check & avoided stepping out of his current comfort zone. no HOF-type debacles like i saw in simpsonville.....more restraint, less wailing. definite plus.
of the 4 shows i attended with this lineup, this one had the most interesting stage, edging out the similar setup in simpsonville last year. setlist, it's probably my least favorite of the 4 shows, 2009 being my favorite. i had a good time 'tho, magnified by my daughter's enjoyment....she's still talking about the RARAN finale like it happened 5 minutes ago
