Will be posting from this show. I will give my KISS FAQ brothers and sisters
more info from this show as opposed to the Albuquerque show. It was
difficult to keep updating with the pouring rain and typing on my iPhone.

You wanted the best! :)

It's so hot! Oh my god! The Treatment just finished their set.
The mood definitely "party time"! The audience is ready
for some East/West Coast rock n roll! Great bil having these
two bands. Audiences got a good package.

Let do this. Marcello's 67th KISS concert!
Enjoy!

Rock n roll all nite. Show over.
I have to say the lighting on this tour is probably their best in years. From 96 forward the lIghting was a bit heavy on
the white light side.

Paul is my childhood hero. I will be surprised if he has
a voice at the end of the tour. I hope so.

KISS still packs them in. It's nice to see KISS playing to
some great sized crowds. I remember those lean unmasked tours
and it was a bummer seeing KISS put on a hell of a show
to half filled arenas.

Will be posting Sunday night from the Irvine Show.

A not-so positive review....

Motley Crue, surprisingly, outperforms Kiss in Phoenix
http://www.azcentral.com/thingstodo/mus ... oenix.html

Photo Gallery

There's nothing better then a good old-fashioned rock slugfest and that's exactly what occurred on the hottest day of the summer at Ashley Furniture HomeStore Pavilion when Kiss and Motley Crue battled it out on Friday night.

Going into this prizefight, Motley Crue was easily the underdog. Everyone know Vince Neil is notoriously one of the worst live rock singers in the business. He is bloated and either doesn't finish or shortens every phrase he sings. Guitarist Mick Mars isn't very mobile due to health conditions. Drummer Tommy Lee would rather be spinning dubstep at a rave. In other words, expectations were very low that the Crue would make it out of the first couple rounds with Paul Stanley, Gene Simmons, and the two other guys dressed as Peter and Ace.

The Crue made a grand entrance to the stage walking through the crowd with female dancers holding up flags with the letters MC on them with the intro to "Saints of Los Angeles" playing in the background. The stage was their version of a post-apocalyptic industrial amusement park with a circular roller coaster behind drummer Tommy Lee and waters cannons on each side of the stage. They wasted no time diving into the hits with "Wildside," "Shout at the Devil" (which featured a spinning pentagram on the screen)and "Sex" (the only new song in the set).

Neil shared guitar duties with Mick Mars on "Don't Go Away Mad (Just Go Away)." And Lee came out from behind the drum kit to play the piano intro of the power ballad "Home Sweet Home" with Mars adding some cool clean guitar work that accompanied the piano beautifully. Mars' guitar sounded huge throughout the show and he has such a cool vibe on stage.

After "Home Sweet Home," the Crue headed offstage and Lee performed his dubstep/EDM inspired drum solo as he spun upside down around the roller coaster track and eventually brought a female fan to join him.

It was great to hear the really early stuff like "Live Wire" where Neil nailed the high notes at the end of the song and showed he is clearly not the same singer we've seen on the past few tours. Sixx stomped around the stage and spit water on fans (who sure didn't seem to mind) in the first few rows. He also addressed the heat issue.

"Someone told me it was gonna be too hot to play in Phoenix," he told the crowd. "I said '(expletive) that. Motley Crue and Kiss fans don't give a (expletive) about the heat. This isn't a (expletive) John Mayer (anti-gay exletive) concert). This isn't Madonna."

"Primal Scream," "Doctor Feelgood" and "Girls, Girls, Girls" were given new life with the addition of the dancers the band had onstage singing back-up. Mars started the intro to the set-closing "Kickstart My Heart" with his signature low-end revved-up guitar blast. Even with the crazy drum solo, Neil's improved performance, and

Nikki being Nikki, Mick was the silent MVP. The song ended with a firework spectacle that looked a 4th of July gone bad, and the Crue showed they weren't quite out of gas just yet.

After about a 30-minute set change, the lights went out and the giant Kiss banner dropped as Paul Stanley, Gene Simmons, and Tommy Thayer were lowered down from a huge platform to the opening notes of "Detroit Rock City." Right away, it was easy to tell that sonically, they weren't going to be able to compete with Motley Crue. Even with two guitarists, the guitars weren't very dominant in the mix, and drummer Eric Singer was experiencing technical issues and missing drum hits. Kiss tried to recover with "Shout it Out Loud" with Gene's gravely vocals in the forefront.

"I Love it Loud" was a great crowd singalong and surprisingly one of the highlights of the 13-song set. "Firehouse" followed and just felt like it should have stayed in the year 1977. The only thing that saved the song was Simmons blowing fire at the end of the track. Stanley informed the crowd that he has just bought the new single on Itunes before they busted into "Hell or Hallelujah."

Then, there was Gene Simmons' bass solo. It really wasn't much of a solo at all as he just kind of hit some strings and made some noise as he spit blood all over himself.

Luckily, he was then lifted above the stage to perform "God of Thunder" above the crowd. Not one to be outdone by Gene, Paul one-upped him as he flew across the entire crowd to the soundboard to perform "Love Gun," which was the best part of their performance. "Lick it Up" and "Black Diamond" with a short Stanley solo were next. "Rock and Roll All Nite" finished the show.

Musically, Kiss really does nothing interesting or dynamic. And they've made a living at making up for that with a great show. But they've been performing that same show for too many years now to keep it exciting. They came off more like a dated Las Vegas show, where most of their fire and stage props were images on a video screen while Motley Crue actually brought the fire, attitude and production that make up a great rock show.

We wanted the best. Instead, we got a cheap imitation of the real thing.

It was a great show. Did the always-controversial Meet and Greet package. Had an awesome time despite the temperature. Never saw Crue before. Great spectacle, cool pyro and visuals, Mick Mars was spot on, Tommy Lee killed it, Vince Neil never could sing so he bested my expectations. Nikki Sixx is a helluva performer but dude, it's 2012. You don't to prove how bad-ass your band is by referring to other band's shows as "BAN ME NOW" concerts. Fuck that. Soooo fuckin' laaaaaame. It's always been a little challenging to be a gay hard rock fan. But KISS kicked Motley's ass anyway, so it doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things. And KISS fans are cooler. Finally, major shout-out to Daveranger. Great meeting you last night, dude. Keep on rockin'.

Even with the crazy drum solo, Neil's improved performance, and Nikki being Nikki, Mick was the silent MVP.

I definitely agree with this. Gene's "solo" is embarrassing to listen to.

I'd like to see both bands myself.

This quote is funny tho;

"They came off more like a dated Las Vegas show, where most of their fire and stage props were images on a video screen while Motley Crue actually brought the fire, attitude and production that make up a great rock show."

Early tour reviews criticised the Crue for a Vegas show. So, eye of the beholder and all that...
