I'll be there (sec 121) with my girlfriend. She is 41 and has only been to one other concert. That was Van Halen in April of this year! And although they played great, there was NO production. We have great seats for this show and she's gonna be blown away!! Can't wait.

Excited to be going. Taking my two kids to their first KISS concert. 13 and 10 years of age. They have heard me talk about the shows for years. Cannot wait to see their faces when the curtain drops. Hope it will be a memorable experience for them and something cool they will look back upon.

If you check Ticketmaster's site, which redirects you to Live Nation, it appears there are many seats available. However when you check their interactive seating map, most of those are showing as obstructed view seats. I've been to this venue many times. I know there are poles in pavilion, but I don't recall this many obstructed view seats.

It's a giant venue. Based on everything that I know, it looks about half full. The place holds 28,000+ at full capacity. Even half full, that's a good crowd. My guess is that it will be another well attended show, especially if there is good weather.

AeroKISS in 2003 got in 17,000+

Rock The Nation in 2004 was 14,000+

So how did Aerosmith and KISS get 17,000 people in a 15,000 seater?

It's a big place when you include the lawn tickets. Everything that I've ever seen suggests 28,000+.

Agreed - All sites I've read show 28,000. From what I understand, only about 8,000 of those seats are pavilion, so you're talking an enormous lawn area.

By the way, raining this morning in Chicago. Timing might turn out to be good - I think it'll be out of here before showtime.

I read on one site(dumbass can't find the link now) that this place was a 12,000 "seater" with the rest of the 28,000 being lawn. Every single site with info about this place says 28,000, it's hard to find the number of "seats".

Look like 3/4 of the actual seats are sold, I'm guessing TT will be tweeting 18-22,000 were in attendance if the weather holds up.

Yes, the pavilion is covered by a roof. Only the lawn is uncovered. I've been watching the radar. They're predicting thunderstorms in the area by 4pm. I'm predicting it won't be much of a problem by showtime - might have to deal with some showers. However, I'm kind of hoping for a heavy downpour up on the North Side to disrupt that Springsteen show!

Yes, there's a roof over the seats; the problem is that two rear corner sections tend to take on a lot of water from poorly designed down spouts.

11,000 cap in the pavilion. It's actually slightly less since removing some seats for a "VIP" viewing area that, ironically enough, has poor sight lines.

THIS!!
And just checking Live Nation's ticketing site....there are still lot of pavilion tickets available. Yes, some obstructed....but a lot on the fringes.

Just got home from the show....some random thoughts:

Paul was better than he has been recently,I thought....anyone notice the other guys did a lot of the backing vocals, possibly saving his voice a little bit?....I thought Gene sounded not all that good....Tommy is a very average guitarist. He's decent, but nothing special. No,not trying to spark a debate on that, just saying it as I see it....Seems Eric is kinda going through the motions a lot. He doesn't seem to have that fire he used to. Not sure if they are tellinig him to tone it down or just that he has lost a step. Not the same guy I saw before. Still very good, but noticably different...They seem very tired and slow. Still enjoyed the performance but kinda like seeing a star pitcher having lost a little something as he got older....Anyone else notice the HUGE dropoff in energy and intensity when Crue finished and Kiss started? It was amazing...it was like the energy was taken out of the crowd a little as well...With his voice in such bad shape the last few years...WHY does Paul insist on doing those yells and screams when its not necessary? Shouldn't he avoid that at least a little bit?

I know this may appear that I am trying to be negative. The truth is,just calling it as I see it. This is the first time I've seen them in a few years and its a big difference. I can't lie about what I saw just because I'm a diehard fan. Still decent, still enjoyable, but definitely have lost a step.

Great shows by both. Others have said it, but I was really entertained by the Crue's show. This was the first time I've seen them live. All kinds of interesting things happening on their stage. Lots of hot chicks. Great pyro. The drum coaster. Just general craziness. Much blue language, but they really seemed to be having fun. Tons of hits - I really liked their setlist kicked off by Saints of Los Angeles - great choice.

Musically KISS just sounded so much better and tighter. HoH by a country mile over the Crue's new tune, Sex. The crowd really does go ape shit over LIU - I guess it helps it's one of KISS' better known songs due to airplay it gets these days. The encore was Calling Dr. Love. A somewhat humorous and maybe spontaneous KISS moment occurred when they were going into CDL. Paul was getting ready to count off the start of the song, stopped, laughed, and returned to the mike proclaiming, "Conference!" He then huddled up with Gene and TT, and they finally launched into it. It truly seemed like they weren't sure what to play and made the decision on the spot to play CDL. Not sure if this has happened at other shows or maybe it really was one of those rare unscripted moments. You have to figure the setlist posted on the stage would have listed CDL, but I can pretend I saw something special. I thought Paul sounded good tonight - nothing cringe worthy to my ears.

I was seated towards the back of the pavilion and was surprised they brought the confetti storm to us, which was wild. I'd estimate the crowd at 17,000 - 18,000. The lawn area is massive - it was maybe half full with the pavilion completely full. Not the greatest weather, but as I so astutely predicted, there was nary a drop of rain at showtime.

KISS came off much more polished, but even back in their early days they were always well rehearsed and professional. The Crue seemed much looser. If you've read their book The Dirt, you know these guys are as decadent as they come. Even as they age they still have some of that. The crowd reacted great to both bands. I actually thought KISS got better as the show wore on. As great a song as DRC is, I'd love to hear ISYL or Creatures as the opener. DRC is noticeably slower paced.

My wife had the line of the night. She said Paul with his spangly vest looked like a "gay cowboy."

Great pairing. See this tour - a load of fun.

Just got home as well and had a great time...was 8th row.....both bands were great...but KISS took the day...no drop in energy from the crowd from Crue to Kiss....both bands did what they do best.....and it was cool that they are different enough to have that cool contrast between them...haven't seen the Crue since Shout at the Devil, but they kicked ass...what I liked about the KISS show was that it was a bit more stripped down and I think that let the tunes shine a bit more (plus KISS' music is better than the Crue's anyways so they have the straight up edge there)....I was shocked at how many of the Crue fans I was around at the show were just clueless about KISS' music and told me they were incredibly impressed with their show and songs...I had a guy tell me he thought tonight was about 'his era (80s)' but that he felt that KISS took the night.....Another guy said that the KISS tunes really shined for him...I believe that's because the KISS set is a little bit more stripped down...sometimes I felt like there was a little too much going on during the Crue show - I think they were trying to overcompensate a bit, but that's okay - more bang for your buck is cool with me...Paul's voice was good..no glaring errors but I agree that he should stop yelping between songs....good set list by both bands...bring on MONSTER!

For all the talk of disappointment with the shorter shows, I thought both were about perfect - very well paced. I didn't feel cheated one bit. I didn't view it as a competition between the Crue and KISS. I thought both were very entertaining, and the crowd loved them both.

Damn those chicks are hot during the Crue's show.

I had a great time at tonights show despite getting SOAKED with a bucket of water from Niki Sixx. WTF was that??? It was like a tital wave hitting me in the back. Thank God I had stashed my camera or it would have been $700 down the drain...literally.

Got some great pics from second row center that I will post in the upcoming days. Tomoorow...ALPINE VALLEY!

Couple of things...

First...it's odd to me that Motley doesn't at least TRY to cover the lip syncing. I won't beat on it much here...because this is a Kiss forum. But the obviously canned backing
vocals...and there are a few times that I'm not REALLY sure anyone other than Tommy and Mick were even playing for real. I know there was also taped acoustic guitar. Just
seemed really...I don't know. That being said...Crue was good. REALLY neat show. All greatest hits, which was nice. Except for Sex, which just seemed like 3 minutes of noise with Vince mumbling along. As soon as I saw the time, I knew Kiss' set would be interesting.

Kiss was WAAAAAAY quieter than Motley, which was fine, my ears needed a break from Vince's high pitched warbling. Couple of things about the KISS show no one has mentioned yet.

1. Lyric flubs ALL OVER THE PLACE. War Machine, HoH, RARAN...just off the top of my head. It's KISS so...well, it's to be expected. But man...it was almost every other song with such a short set.

2. God of Thunder was a REALLY well done song. Just nice to hear it. Maybe all the Destroyer Ress. has got me in the mood for it.

3. Paul sounded like Paul sounds now. No better, no worse. His speaking voice has gotten weird and sort of muppet like. That was odd.

4. As was said before...Eric has lost something. Is he bored? Maybe. But wow...just so...laid back to the point of non-existance. Usually I watch him quite a bit. Not the case last night.

5. The show itself, lights, pyro, and all that...was good. It was different then Crue...but show cased how KISS could lean on it's music a lot more.

6. They need to play Beth. They just do. It went over well during THSOE. They should still be doing it. It's short, and the crowd would have dug it.

7. I guess I enjoyed the shortened set because there was LESS of Paul's banter. It was just...song, song, song...which I liked.

8. They took the long solo out of Love Gun? Or was there just a fuck up in the middle? I know Tommy missed a beat or something in there.

9. During RNRAN, when they usually do the audience stuff...Paul looked at the band and literally said...into the mic..."STRAIGHT INTO THE CHORUS!" Because well...it was 10:58 and counting. Didn't bother me....I actually thought it was funny to see them push to hurry through the song.

I was 4th row center...and I had a good time. I could have used some ear plugs for Crue. Just because they were SO FUCKING LOUD.

It's funny. Because I thought I wouldn't like the short set. But they took out all the stuff I was kind of sick of, and it actually made for a better show. No long raps. No split the audience down the middle, no I WAS MADE...About the only thing I MISSED was hearing DEUCE. It's just not a KISS show without it.

Can't wait for the MONSTER tour. I mean this in the best possible way...but I hope it's either the last tour they do...or they take a huge break.

I can't quite put my finger on it, because Paul and Gene seemed like they were having fun last night, especially Paul. But Tommy and Eric looked, and sounded, like they needed a long break. FInd some passion again. Or something.

ANYWAY...this is long winded and rambling. Sorry about that. I had a lot of thoughs about the show last night, both good and bad. It is beginning to be like seeing my favorite movie for the umpteenth time though. Maybe I just need a long break from seeing them live...

Good show. Glad I went. Now let's get to October so we can FINALLY hear Monster.

Wow -- what a difference a day makes. Wonder if they had a bad day travelling from Detroit area to Chicago area? I didn't see ANY of that in the Clarkston show. Well, it's like all of us going to work, some days are good, some are bad. Problem is, people don't spend a ton of of money to see us work, lol.

I was there. I have seen this lineup many times over the last several years. There was NOTHING wrong with Eric or Tommy. Those guys kicked ass. Great show!

Yeah, playing wise Eric was great. And to be honest, I wasn't watching him much. So I'll admit, I could be wrong there.

I think with Tommy...it's just that he takes himself SO seriously on stage. While Gene and Paul and even Eric, look they are playing around, goofing with the
fans and whoever....Tommy is just super serious.

Maybe that's all it was.

It was a good show...don't let my super duper picking it apart fool you. I enjoyed it.

I don't know if it was just where I was sitting, but honestly I thought Paul's voice was worse last night than Ive ever heard before.

More later when I have time to do a complete writeup.

It's interesting how many folks in these threads have said they enjoy MC's "greatest hits" set whereas we tend to complain about KISS doing the same thing.
I know that if I saw the Crue live I'd want to hear about what they are playing now. I wonder what their fans think of both setlists...
