Hard Rock Cafe is right across the street from Target Center...I think I read a few weeks back that some of the Faqers are gonna meet up there before the show...I might make it there, depends on what time I get into the city. I'll be wearing an orange "Ace Frehley Gibson Guitars" t-shirt.chadb2448 wrote:Chicago tonight, Minny tomorrow. I'm there. Never been to Minny before, so any hints or tips would be appreciated.
Awesome pizza within walking distance at "Pizza Luce" at 119 North 4th Street...(a few blocks East and one block north of Target Center) by the slice or a whole pie. Plenty of other good stuff on the menu there as well.
The weather is supposed to be nice - in the 60's so don't worry about freezing to death or anything.
Enjoy our city...it's beautiful here.

Just back from the show (My 12th time seeing the band since 1989)...fucking amazing. I swore after seeing the band in Somerset, WI on the Rock The Nation tour in '04 that I would never go see them again - that was a horrible show. But I figured for $20.00 seats in the upper deck, I couldn't go wrong with this one. Reading all the reviews here on the Faq board leading up to this show made me wonder what I was in for...would it be good? Bad?
Well all I can say is the band delivered a KILLER show this evening. The only low point seemed to be Modern Day Delilah...it went over like a lead balloon. I saw several people getting up in my section to use the bathroom or grab another beer when they played this one, but the rest of the set was great, even though there were no surprises. I'm glad they didn't bother with any other songs off Sonic Piece of Crap, oops, I mean Sonic Boom. Sorry, that just slipped out.
They sang Happy Birthday to Tommy, who actually seems to be much more comfortable on stage with the band now than he did back in '04. I've never begrudged him his position in the band...I don't hate the guy. But I DO hate Gene and Paul JUST A LITTLE for what they are doing these days with the band...(In my opinion the makeup should be off...) and Having Tommy sing "Shock Me" is just weird (to me anyway). But I don't make the decisions in Kissland, they do...and they seem to be doing something right because the Target Center was packed! So good for them...I'm happy to see them succeeding.
The stage was beautiful - I know some here are not liking it very much but I thought it was great. Tons of pyro...LOUD bombs. Setlist was same as Chicago the previous night as somebody already mentioned. Paul's voice seemed OK to me...only place it sounded off was, again, on Modern Day Delilah. Eric Singer was just POUNDING throughout the evening. He's definately the right man for the job.
There were more people dressed up in Kiss makeup at this show than I've ever seen at any other show in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area and the crowd was loud and seemd to really be into the show. BuckCherry was great as well...really liked them I can't see how anyone who loves good old blues-based 70's style sleaze rock and roll wouldn't like them...but to each their own.
Before the show, we tried to get a seat at the Hard Rock Cafe across the street - the place was JAMMED with Kiss fans...there was over an hour wait for a table so we passed and went over to Hooters instead. The food there sucked ass. And as we were walking across the street to go over to the venue, I did see one guy wearing a KissFaq t-shirt...didn't get to talk to him, but I did notice him standing by the Gene Simmons "Family Jewels/Punisher Bass" Bus.
As we were leaving after it was all over, I was listening to peoples comments about the show and everyone I heard seem to be really enthusiastic and positive about how great the show was...
So there you have it. From my perspective anyway. Hope anyone else from the board that went enjoyed it as much as I did.

Wide range of ticket prices in the States. At the high end around $120 - low end I've seen around $17. A couple other levels in between. They really did the right thing and priced this tour for everyone.trip730 wrote:Wow $20 seats...thats really cheap. What are the price range of tickets on this USA tour? Here in Australia i think minimum tickets prices previously have been avout $100.
You are getting a bargain for $20.

One thing I forgot to mention is that I kept alert to the audience for this whole classics vs new crap. I had a good view of the entire venue. Even though MDD got a weak response far more people got up and left their seats for whatever reasons during the "classics" Shock Me and 100,000 years, and I'm not talking the drum solo part, more got up and left at that point.

Just saw them in Chicago the day before. Was the 19th time I've seen Kiss since 1978 and was one of the best shows I've seen. I love Sonic Boom, but have to agree on MDD. Crowd was just not into it at all and the song probably ranked 2nd only to 100,000 years as the biggest seat emptier of the night. Would have loved to hear another track off SB, but after hearing them perform Say Yeah a few times, I'm glad they dropped at as the choruses were especially cringe-worthly live. Would have much rather seen them play MDD and then replace Shock Me with When Lightning Strikes, which is not only a better song imho, but much more appropriate for Tommy to be singing.NYCDreamin wrote:Just back from the show (My 12th time seeing the band since 1989)...fucking amazing. Im still at my hotel close to the Mall Of America......still on high from last night.......
I think Paul sounded better than ever.......
100,000 years has really got to go....although they did make it a lot more entertaining than usual.....but in the time it takes them to get thru it, they could have played half of Sonic Boom
Nothing real notable about last night that others haven't said.......Gene left his towel on an amp during DRC and it caught fire....and his cod piece must not have been fitting right.....he was adjusting it every few minutes
The bell came out for Genes solo....it is an awesome touch......blood came out on the stage and not from above.....
After having a week off, was really hoping KISS would have pulled surprises out , so I was very dissapointed in the set list.
There is some hope....Paul told everybody that didn't have Sonic Boom to go to WM and get it, because the next time they come back, they will be tested......

Pretty good show last night. Crowd was into it and singing along. I think even Paul was suprised when people actually screamed "100,000 years!" at the beginning of the song. I was suprised too. With the song being on all the Kissology's, I guess it's natural people will know it. It does get kind of long though, and people usually will get up to drain their bladders at some point. Hopefully into a toilet and not on my leg.
Target Center looked sold out. I was suprised. I didn't think without Ace and Peter they could sell tickets like this, but they are doing it. Some of the magic is missing though, but a lot of people seemed to be having a blast, so I guess Paul and Gene know what they're doing
Fun night out either way.

On another note.....the people in the section I was in (112) cheered loud when they played MDD....its been getting alot of radio airplay in the cities (unlike Iowa) and I heard alot of moaning during 100,000 years.....
Paul started talking about 100,000 Years being a classic of the classics.....umm.......NOT

I was at this show and had a great time. I was surprised by how much I enjoyed the stage show since I honestly thought the stage looks pretty bland in pics. With all the monitors going its actually really cool in person.
I wasn't a huge fan of the set list. Given that I have seen Kiss 50+ times, I get tired of the same ol same ol, but whatever. I did my best not to look at videos of the show or setlists prior to going. All I knew is they did in fact play MDD, Tommy was singing Shock Me, and they had player "Say Yeah" a couple of times. Lets start with the stuff I knew...
MDD sounded fine. I was glad they played a new song... I don't think I even need to put in here that Paul sounded terrible singing it.
Shock me really irritated me. Way more than I ever imagined it would have. I felt bad because they did Tommy's birthday song right before going into Shock Me. I went from singing happy birthday to the guy, to wishing he wasn't there. It really corrupted the show for me. It may be petty, but its how I felt. I was having an amazing time up until that point, I don't know if I ever fully recovered from it because I was bordering on angry by the end of the song.
I was praying that they were going to play "Say Yeah". Seriously... I was trying to will them to play it after about an hour. Between every song I was thinking "Play Say Yeah, play Say Yeah...". They never did. This was a disappointment to me as well. Finding out that they had played it during sound check but not during the show itself really bummed me out.
Onto something of importance to me... Paul's voice... I guess I can see how people go to these shows and say "Paul sounded great". Whoever they have doing sound for them does a great job or blending Eric Singer's vocals higher in the mix than Paul's at parts where Paul strains. IT was easy enough to cover towards the beginning, but towards the end of the evening it was hard not to notice. It didn't really ruin the show for me, but it was easy to hear that his voice needs help. Listening to recordings of the event is a completely different story though. He is still having major problems, and I still question how long they are going to be able to continue at this pace without getting him some help.
Show was sold out which surprised the hell out of me. Even with $10 tickets for one day I didn't expect that. I almost didn't go to the show... But as it got closer I realized I would hate myself for not going and I am glad that I went. The band is really tight, the stage show is good, Gene's outfit is way better than the version he was wearing in the first photos too. The armor is I mean.
I had a wonderful time at the show, but as I said... I feel like I never really fully recovered from being annoyed with Tommy singing Shock Me. I feel bad saying that I guess. I like that Tommy was such a huge contributor on the new album, I like that he seems to care a lot about the band. I just wish they did things differently with him. It was hard enough for me to come to terms with the fact he is wearing Ace's make up, but I did it as best I could. That song should not be sung by him though... IT just shouldn't.
Also I wanted to note I had no idea Tommy was playing Ace's guitar solo either... It just bums me out. I want to like the guy... I really do. Gene and Paul make it hard though.
I rate it about average for a Kiss show. It would have been above average if they wouldn't have tossed in the Tommy stuff. It was a blemish on what was otherwise a great showing musically by the band. Its also fairly sad for me that my all time idol, Paul, is sounding so horrible these days. Even on "good nights" he isn't even close to what he was just a few years back.
