Re: Heavy MTL festival Montreal
KISS isn't that metal.
They better drop "Beth" from the setlist, or that stage collapse in Ottawa will look like a walk in the park.

I'm going! I'm about to leave right now for Parc Jean-Drapeau. KISS, Motörhead, Anthrax, Opeth, Diamond Head, Morbid Angel, Children Of Bodom, Annihilator, Girlschool, Anonymus and many others: what do you want more?
BTW, it's a 2 days festival, not 3 days

Re: Heavy MTL festival Montreal
It will be a KISS crowd for the most part, so I am sure they can play whatever. But, I wouldn't mind seeing them drop "Beth". To me they just look uncomfortable out there standing and holding acoustics and whatnot. Gene really looks out of place. Not one of my favorite KISS songs anyway.

Re: Heavy MTL festival Montreal
Will leave in a few minutes for the show.
I still hope they'll play some "harder" songs (War Machine, Creatures, Unholy, Parasite) for this festival. But I doubt it.

I believe this is one of those Canadian regions where French is the first language. Correct ?
In any case, awesome lineup of bands and the crowd should be massive.

There might be some pro shot footage from this show, Anthrax just posted some pro footage on their facebook. I don't know if it's an Anthrax crew or the festival filming....fingers crossed.

If they are going to play it (and it was the bands biggest hit so it probably should be played) they should put Eric on a stool with the other guys standing around him. Not all huddled up so it looks awkward, but further behind him and soak them in dim blue light. Would look cool I think.

Just came back from the show. The crowd was massive, but not a lot into it. The band was in great shape, Paul & Gene were in a good mood.
Show was very short, started at 9.15 and ended at 10.45.
Set list:
Modern Day Delilah
Let Me Go, Rock 'N' Roll
Firehouse
Deuce
Do You Love Me
Calling Dr. Love
Shock Me (Tommy & Eric Solo)
I Love It Loud
Love Gun
God of Thunder (Gene spitting blood)
Black Diamond
Detroit Rock City
Encore:
Part of American Woman (as a joke)
Lick It Up
Shout It Out Loud
Rock And Roll All Nite

I just put the setlist in the HeavyMTL show thread.
Very short setlist (15 songs). Same as usual but dropped Cold Gin, Say Yeah and Beth.

KISS rocks Montreal !!!
Moshed potatoes for 35,000, anyone?
Two days and nights, 39 bands, enough volume and weight to shift a tectonic plate. Knobs at 11? 12. Heavy MTL.
And when KISS followed Motorhead’s customarily essential set, setting off their own Fireworks Competition display last night, one had to admit, this is the ideal one-stop-shopping outing to stock up on a year’s worth of metal.
Sunday night, Heavy MTL got the headliner it deserved and needed – not the purest of the death metalloids, but the showbizzers who prove more than any that the “bastard child of rock’n’roll” is multigenerational. When Paul Stanley screeched “Hold up your little ones!” between Firehouse and Deuce, and many parents hoisted kids in KISS make-up, you realized KISS reminds you of the pointlessness of Broadway. This is Broadway, the hard/real way: the demon/loverman/space-case/cat costumed finery, the spectacle, and a vilified songbook that still kills anything in Spider-Man: Turn off the Dark. A huge crowd, who’d shifted over after Motorhead’s irreducible Ace of Spades and Overkill to cram the left side of the park, roared at the fire-pillars, and throughout a comprehensive set that reminds even the least devoted in the audience that KISS has now been an entry point to rock’n’roll for 40 (!) years of wasted youth.

I can see why the crowd might not be into it. Kiss is not a metal band.

I can honestly say it was a great show...maybe the best one by this lineup that I've seen so far.
Tommy and Eric STILL look ridiculous in makeup and playing Shock me was wrong all the way, but aside from that, I had a good time.
It was cool seeing Paul mimicking the death metal bands and I gotta admit that I agree with him, most of the singers in those bands rather sound like they are vomitting instead of singing.

That's fine to do when Buckcherry or other such bands are opening for you, but in a METAL festival??DoggFather wrote: It was cool seeing Paul mimicking the death metal bands and I gotta admit that I agree with him, most of the singers in those bands rather sound like they are vomitting instead of singing.

Yeah, in fact 80% of the population considers french their first language and 97% of the population can speak french. My first language is french, as you can maybe see by looking at the mistakes in my postsKISS Unmasked II wrote:I believe this is one of those Canadian regions where French is the first language. The show was freakin' awesome. Every band was great, the massive crowd was really into it all day, headbanging, mosh-pitting and singing during every band. KISS were really great, I was pretty close to the gate in front of the stage, on Gene's side, and where I was standing the whole crowd was singing the chorus of every songs, everybody liked the show. Gene forgot the second couplet of God Of Thunder, so he sang the 1st one again Paul's voice was good, but I hate the screamings and speeches between the songs, it's becoming more and more dumb with the years: just shut up and play. The fireworks at the end were huge and really impressive. A really great concert.

ACTUALLY, Montréal's statistics now say that under 50% of its residents have french as their first language.Pierre1233 wrote:Yeah, in fact 80% of the population considers french their first language and 97% of the population can speak french. But yeah, the rest of the province of Québec is french and Montréal is the biggest city in the province.

Good show, although it seemed as though the band started slowly for whatever reason. The second half of the show was great.

Re: Summer '11 Show 16: 7/24/11 - HeavyMTL Festival, Montrea
I agree with Spirit, KISS aren't a metal band and to add pain to the injury they played a shortened set with their usual stuff rather than playing an almost normal set and adding some of their most metal-like songs (you know, stuff like Unholy, War Machine,...) at points. But this is KISS, and if the set was bad or the setlist didn't fit, it wasn't their fault, because Paul and Gene are always right (like they'd tell you in interviews).
