The Q didn't do that well?? I didn't know that.Tymaster wrote:This show is still totally up in the air for me. Really hate that it is on a Sunday. Oh well, no pity for me. BTW, this show looks to be on it's way to outselling the show at the Q last fall. How many cities have KISS actually done better in from last fall to HSOE?

Upper Bowl was curtained off. Which was good for those that bought cheap seats: they were upgraded! LOL. It drew 9K+. This show at Blossom will have a sold out pavilion, which is 5,700 right there. 3,000 in the lawn and you've outdrawn the Q show. As much as KISS is better in an arena, this leg of the tour (call it HSOE, it's still an extension of the fall tour, albeit with a whole new set list) seems to have a bigger/better buzz and better promotion. Between the lawn deals (4 packs, free kids), the local band contests, and Dr. Pepper, it's all good. The fact that the Browns aren't playing at home that day has MUCH more of an impact than most KISS fans realize. Cleveland is like Green Bay when it comes to their Brownies. Browns fans can watch the season opener (which is in Tampa) on tv for FREE and saunter down to the KISS show. Expect a massive walk up lawn crowd if the weather holds. Blossom in September is a major gamble.

Read 'em and weep: http://www.kissfaq.com/KissFAQ-wiki/ind ... e_-_092809thundergod76 wrote:There's no way they only drew 9K+ at the Q last fall.
That place holds over 20K. Aside from the uppers being
curtained off that place was packed.
The curtain system at the Q cuts off nearly 10,000 seats btw. It is used for Lake Erie Monsters Hockey games. Capacity for the Monsters is 10,025. Capacity for the NBA Cleveland Cavaliers is 20,562.

I was one of them. The whole situation was handled pretty half-a**ed, there were no signs up telling people of the change, you just kind of found out when you tried to get there. I got bumped twice, ended up with club seats, which made my niece's first Kiss show a great experience.Tymaster wrote:Upper Bowl was curtained off. It happened to me when Queen + Paul Rodgers played the Q. After scanning my tickets they told me in a robot like voice to "report to that office over there." I thought I was being accused of having fake tickets or something!!! Then they asked me what section I'd like to be seated in . My $20 tickets got me in front of people who paid $100!!!!y2daddy wrote:I was one of them. Wow. I'm surprised more people haven't posted their thoughts on this show. So, I'll jump in and post mine.
This was my 11th time seeing the band and this show has to rank in the top 3. They were hitting on all cylinders.
I saw last year's show (at The Q in Cleveland) and this was better. Paul's voice seemed much better this time around.
I was sitting on Gene's side of the stage, in the 6th row. Gene came over once in awhile but Paul played around with the crowd MUCH more often and MUCH more enthusiastically. He was getting an eyeful of some women in the front row and kept mouthing, "I love 'em" to one in particular. Surprisingly, Gene didn't seem to be enticed by whatever was on display up there.
Anyway, the band sounded really tight and, although Blossom is a small venue and the KISS light show seemed kind of crammed into the place, they still managed to put on a full-scale, balls-out show. I'd never seen KISS at Blossom and was worried that they'd have to scale back the pyro. They didn't seem to have to do that.
The crowd was definitely into the show. I'd gone to see Iron Maiden and Tom Petty earlier this year and KISS had a slightly smaller turnout (based on my completely unscientific visual guess) but they definitely did better than many other bands I've seen at Blossom (including Motley Crue and Judas Priest) over the years.
The only downside to the whole night...which is my damn fault...is that my left ear is ringing like crazy today. (I didn't have plugs in.)
I've been a fan since 1976 and I would have been proud to take anyone to last night's show to say, "This is why I am a fan of this band."

I wouldn't exactly call Blossom a "small" venue (it holds 19,200). KISS do worry me everytime they play there though. For those who have never been, the pavilion is 99% wooden. Wonderful acoustics. It's not one of the "cookie cutter" sheds that have to ambiance and have crap sound. However, I could see KISS catching the place on fire!Shazapp wrote:Wow. I meant stage-size, not the entire complex. There's not a lot of room up there. My bad.Tymaster wrote:I wouldn't exactly call Blossom a "small" venue (it holds 19,200). This was KISS third show up there, they've always brought all the bells and whistles. I've seen some massive productions in Blossom. It's "deceptive," meaning there's more room up there than it appears. That whole complex is kinda odd. The Asian Architecture in the middle of a National Forest in Ohio is certainly unique. I'd like to see KISS play the Wolstein Center. Not a bad seat in the house.Shazapp wrote:I meant stage-size, not the entire complex. There's not a lot of room up there. I saw Clapton up there a couple of years ago. I had the same thought last night about all the pyro in a mostly wooden stage.(I didn't go, just thinking about how the show went) Could have been the hottest show on earth if there was an errant spark. Thank goodness that didn't happen!

I think the area above the stage is mostly metal actually, it's the perimeter that is mostly wooden. That place is easily the best outdoor venue in the midwest. People that like to roadtrip, if you've never been to Blossom, find a show there next summer and go. You'll thank me later.vaspaceman wrote:Tymaster wrote:This was KISS third show up there, they've always brought all the bells and whistles. I've seen some massive productions in Blossom.
