Back from the show...it's 1:35am. Videos are loading to youtube as I write this - should have them here in an hour or so.
Until then, here was the setlist:
Modern Day Delilah/Cold Gin/Let Me Go Rock 'N' Roll/Firehouse/Say Yeah/Deuce/Crazy Cray Nights/Calling Dr. Love/Shock Me - Jam/Tommy Solo/Gene Solo/I Love It Loud/I'm An Animal/100,000 Years/Lo0ve Gun/Black Diamond/Detroit Rock City/Beth/Lick It Up/Shout It Out Loud/I Was Made For Lovin' You/God Gave Rock & Roll To You/Rock & Roll All Nite
Show looked to be a sell out which is around 13,000. All ages - lots of faces painted up - tons of families with kids at their first Kiss show. The band was pretty good but seeing Kiss 14 times - being a fan of the band since 1977...I know of what I speak when i say Pauls voice IS AN ISSUE. You'll hear it in my videos shortly...other than that it's a pretty good show. The band brough out a few soldiers on stage and led the crowd in the pledge of allegiance, and then announced the donation to the wounded warriors foundation is up to $340,000. Pretty sweet. More to come soon...

Cool clips. I'm actually still hearing a gradual improvement for Paul. Sounds like he's not pushing as hard which is good...even in the raps. Those "Oh Yeah" fills in the CCN choruses are still tough. I wonder if he might play with that a little more, maybe go to his falsetto or something there. Overall, I like the direction he's heading in.

Mpls Star Tribune Show Review:
"State Fair Gets A Mushy First Kiss"
by Chris Reimenschneider
http://www.startribune.com/entertainmen ... aUycaEacyU
(Slideshow of photos from the show available at the above link)
Was there ever any doubt that all the face-paint, fireworks, flashing lights and songs about licking it up and shouting out loud would be perfect for the State Fair?
Making its first appearance at the Great Minnesota Get-Together -- and actually its first outdoor show ever in the state -- Kiss delivered its usual carnivalistic, freak-showy, over-feeding concert Saturday in front of a sold-out crowd at the grandstand. As predictable as "Rock and Roll All Nite" being saved for the encore, the performance fit the fair like a codpiece.
Not so typical, however, was the set list played for the band's third local appearance since its original lineup dissolved for the second time.
Having just played Target Center nine months ago with their post-reunion fill-in Kiss lineup, cofounders Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley and their hired "Love Gunners" Tommy Thayer and Eric Singer kept things interesting by trying out a new opening song ("Modern Day Delilah," which worked), and by throwing in a lot of songs the band hasn't performed since those blech-inducing days when they played without makeup.
That idea did not turn out so well. The guys chose some of their mushiest and most hairspray-drunk singles of all time, including "Crazy Crazy Nights," "I Was Made for Lovin' You" and "God Gave Rock 'n' Roll To You." Blech.
They also offered the biggest ballad of 'em all, "Beth," for the first time since original drummer Peter Criss' departure.
Stand-in "Catman" Eric Singer was convincing talent-wise if questionable tastewise, handling Criss' vocals (coolly backed by acoustic guitars instead of the old pre-recorded orchestra).
Singer is so precise in his role-playing duties, he even imitated his predecessor's incessant gum-chewing.
Guitarist Tommy Thayer was equally spot-on singing Ace Frehley's "Shock Me," but he followed it with his own brand of meteoric guitar solo. He and Singer soloed long enough to give the two members in their 60s time to leave the stage and tape an Andy Rooney segment.

St. Paul Pioneer Press Review
"Kiss At The State Fair? Why Didn't We Think Of This Before?"
by Ross Raihala
http://www.twincities.com/music/ci_1599 ... ck_check=1
(Photos at the above link)
They may not be the youngest band to play the Minnesota State Fair, and they certainly aren't the most musically talented, but Saturday night, costumed rockers Kiss proved to be the perfect match for the Great Minnesota Get-Together.
Nostalgia always plays well at the Fair, and it takes a certain amount of spectacle to compete with the million other things to do beyond the Grandstand. Kiss delivered both to a capacity crowd of 13,032, with a show that had guys older than Gene Simmons screaming with glee and kids barely out of diapers pumping their fists like old pros.
Now nearly 38 years into their career, Kiss have long since perfected their attack, offering crude, almost primal rock anthems with enough shock and awe to keep those in the cheapest of the cheap seats thrilled.
Kiss just played a terrific show at Target Center back in November, but the looser, open-air atmosphere of the Grandstand made for an even more ridiculously fun evening. (It also made it easier to forgive the guttural screams these guys call vocals.)
Not that it really matters what they played, but Kiss did change things up considerably. Whereas the Target Center gig was based heavily on their 1975 breakthrough Alive, Saturday's set list included a handful of surprises.
First of all, Kiss played three songs from last year's Sonic Boom, an album, as Paul Stanley wryly noted from the stage, that's available only at Walmart. While the disc is about as good as any they've released since the late '70s — which is to say not very — the fresh tracks fit seamlessly into the program. "Modern Day Delilah," the sole new one that popped up at the Target Center, made a reappearance, with "Say Yeah," giving the crowd plentiful opportunities to, uh, say yeah.
Elsewhere, the foursome slipped in "Crazy Crazy Nights" for the first time since 1990's Hot in the Shade tour. They also brought the power ballad "Beth" back into rotation after retiring it when Stanley and Simmons booted original drummer Peter Criss from the lineup in 2003. Backed by acoustic guitar, Criss' replacement, Eric Singer, sang it with just the right amount of dewy-eyed sincerity.
The other relatively fresh face in the band, guitarist Tommy Thayer, has filled Ace Frehley's silver platforms for eight years now. He'll never come close to matching Frehley's effortless, stoned cool and he's a terrible backup singer. But Thayer — like Singer — knows his place. He took his turn center stage to shoot rockets from his six-string, but mostly stood back and allowed bare-chested Stanley (age 58) and blood-spewing Simmons (age 61) to bask in the crowd's seemingly bottomless well of adoration.
Really, the only way Kiss and the State Fair can top Saturday night is to do it again next summer. And the summer after that, and the summer after that.

It was good. Unfortunately, Paul's voice was really hard for me to listen to last night...very raw sounding. That, with the whole Ace/Peter/Eric/Tommy/still wearing the makeup thing and the fact I really don't care for Sonic Boom...I think this was my final Kiss concert. Last fall they were really good...this time just good. Last time it was great for me? I'd have to say it was the Psycho Circus tour. But I keep going anyway, LOL.shupey wrote:Hey Dreamin. We were in the same section but you were about 13 rows ahead of me. Great show wouldn't you say?
But the stage is beautiful...the fireworks after the show were really cool. The fact that it was sold out and so many kids were there was also cool. The setlist was pretty good too I thought, but Crazy Nights was a massacre! That did not sound good at all.
Glad you enjoyed it...don't get me wrong, I did enjoy it too, but it's just NOT the hottest show on earth anymore, musically anyway. That title may belong to Rush right now, who were at the fair last weekend and were much better in my opinion.

I'll agree with ya that Paul sounded a little rough in spots (that was my concern on night 3 of 3 in a row) I was amazed at the number of people at the merchandise spots even when the show started. Even once the show started there was a constant flow up and down the aisle i was sitting. I had never seen that before. Anyway, the make-up things doesn't bother me (though I'd rather see Ace than Tommy but Ace is doing what's best for him) I'd rather they did there own Sonic Boom tunes (though I do like this version of Beth) I like the new solo/duet part with Tommy & Eric. 100,000 years and I'm An Animal need to go though. Animal doesn't seem to work live and I'm sick and tired of 100,000 years. Anyway, my son was with me and he like this show better than the Target Center show last Nov so take that for what it's worth. I never have left a KISS show disappointed and this one was no exception.

I was thrilled to see so many kids having such a great time, rocking out to Kiss with their mom and dad at the Fair. Lots of cool parents out there nowadays...glad you guys had fun!shupey wrote:my son was with me and he like this show better than the Target Center show last Nov so take that for what it's worth.
