I’m looking forward to KK Priest lp.
So far nothing this year has done much for me. The new Accept has some decent guitar work but some horrible lyrics.

I don't have time for a top 10 right now but "Kill Grid" by Enforced has to be on the list.

Not sure what Metal means anymore, but the best of the year far and away is Seven Ravens - Barely Hanging On.

Smith/Kotzen is number 2. Not metal, but very good.

A few others down the list, but nothing on the level of Seven Ravens.

Finally got around to checking that one out today and yes indeed - it kicks ass. Lots of killer riffs. I also edited my list again a couple times.

I wanted and expected to dig both of those but was disappointed. I couldn’t get into the new Artillery at all. F&J was actually decent but the ultra processed robotic drum sound killed it for me. As soon as the first song kicked in I thought “man, those drums sound like typewriters” and from that point I could not un- hear it.

Also wanted to comment on these. I wasn’t big on the new Pestilence album. A little too sterile and symphonic in places for me. It was ok. First listen of Necroceros went one ear and out the other, but after a couple more spins I’m digging it. Good crushing shit from them as always.

It absolutely slays, like all things Darkthrone. It would definitely be my album of the year so far if Helloween hadn’t dropped that bombshell.

Thanks guys.

I'm barely dipping my toes in the metal scene this year for some reason.

But, Bloodsport has a great EP coming.

I have a touch and go relationship with Artillery. I absolutely hate Flemming Rönsdorf's voice so their "classic" era stuff just isn't my bag. The two albums they did with Søren Adamsen were freakin' brilliant. Just the punishing hook-driven kind of thrash I salivate over. Ever since they drafted Michael Bastholm Dahl to handle vox, the stuff has just been extremely vanilla, bordering on power metal. Dude has such a weak and whiny voice. I kind of feel like the band has dished out a little more aggression on the new one, so it feels like a step up to me.

I liked My Blood a lot when it came out. The live album/video with him singing the old stuff was also great. Unfortunately they lost me after that point.

After listening to Krisiun's Ageless Venomous I wanna write a effin book! Talking about type-writer drums....

I hate fake drum sounds…that “sample the kick drum” and hit then hit repeat so everything is mechanically precise…and make sure the fills are all robotically punched in and placed super high in the shitty mix. Just sounds ultra processed and sterile. Ruined that F&J album for me, amongst others.

Helloween on the other hand did it exactly right, for their new album they used the original, late drummers old kit and recorded it in analog.

New Carcass “Torn Arteries” is killer and I like the two songs a piece I’ve heard so far from Exodus “Persona Non Grata” and Hypocrisy “Worship.” Unless shit radically changes those albums have earned a spot on my list. The latest from Ruin (death metal cult) is another beastly slab of grimy DM I’m really digging, along with the latest from Fluids and Killing Addiction.
