First Kiss Internet / Web experience

Post by kissnation »

Mine started in the newsgroups:
rec.music.artists.kiss

I also recall the Kiss message boards on Prodigy. Kiss Asylum seemed to be the first web page I would start to check routinely.

kissnation@aol.com - Cannot forget this as it was Gene and he would reply in those early days.

What else was out there?

I got my first peek at KISS on the web in 1996 or 1997 when I found the original KISS Tabs. I loved the fact that there existed such a resource (even if I was less than impressed by the actual content of the tabs) and it really inspired me to start my own sites later on, first on Geocities and later with my own domains . It took a year or two before we got internet at our house but by 1998 I was checking KISS Asylum almost daily. Much like I tend to pop in here every day nowadays. Old habits die hard...

I forgot about this one. Did go hand in hand with the Asylum.

Funny to think back on trying to get the reunion tour set lists from message boards.

probably late 94 or early 95. New computer on dial up. First thing I did was search "KISS" and spent 25 minutes downloading 3 minutes worth of the Hard Luck Woman video

KISS Asylum was the first KISS site for me. I was there quite often, as "chaim", if I remember correctly. I also had many e-mail conversations with the guy who did the great tabs there. I wonder if he's here...

When the Reunion became a reality and realizing that this new thing called "internet" was faster than waiting for printed magazines :P I immediatly made searches in different sites for news regarding it.

Among them I found Kiss Asylum and I got stuck there for quite some time 8)

The 2 sites that I remember the most from the early days:

-Lynn's KISS Dominion (anyone know what ever happened to her? She was a hottie from what I recall, and seemed like a true die-hard fan).

-The AOL chatrooms. There was one called "KISS Army." I remember a girl named "KISS Demonette" (or something close) who was on there all the time.

I think these days the updates are a very bare minimum. Some cool content on there. I like her ranking of the KISS albums.

I remember skimming through websites with songwriting credits for all the songs (before I had listened to the entire discography) and looking for every song Ace wrote. Ace was a big deal when getting into KISS at first. There was no one cooler.

I didn't have internet access so I had a coworker print a bunch of pages of a KISS site. This was before I realized that color ink was so expensive.

I didn't say I agree with it, I just like it.:)
She took the time to discuss things track-by-track or give an overall review.

Just her opinion. I'm sure her opinion has changed since then anyway.

I used to go look at Asylum every day. I enjoyed reading the writings of Ron Albanese. A really smart and funny writer who also was a professional birthday party clown.
Does anybody here know him? He was working on the ultimate Kiss Meets the Phantom book.
Is he on here?

Ron Albanese? The name certainly rings a bell, but I don't remember where I've seen it.

I don't think that he's on here but he's one of my facebook friends and I talked him briefly a few months ago.

He's still interested in doing the Phantom book (which had the working title 'Easy Catman, They are Serious' but has been mostly involved in his clown gig as Polka Dot. He's a really nice guy and I hope he jumps back into writing as he really had a great knack for what Kiss fans were interested in.

Asylum, Otaku, and Lynn's KISS Dominion for me too, on dial-up of course. Asylum was the only BB I was regularly on. I think my name was Heavy Harvey on there. I remember I found out about these sites in some reunion special magazine.

I remember the first KISS bootleg I downloaded was Electric Kabuki II, an average audience recording of one of the Tokyo '78 shows. Took hours to download.

And the first "KISS scandal" I remember was the Psycho Circus leak and ensuing debate on whether Ace and Peter played on it.

If you're ever nostalgic for the 90's, a lot of the features on Asylum are still there, such as Psycho Circus News. (check out the total burn from MTV on the October 28th entry. Ouch!)

right after the KISS unplugged show was shot. I typed "KISS" on the Excite website and that led me to KISS Otaku & KISS Asylum. KISS Otaku was better looking but Asylum had the instant news. Spent a lot of time at the chat forum as MrBond

If you go into the "Way Back Machine" can bring up a lot of the now defunct web pages from the past. Make sure you put in the exact web address.

Fun to see some of the classics as they were.

"Deuce" here...My first online KISS experience was Prodigy KISS forums, and then AOL KISS forums and the old rec newsgroups before the websites.

So, who else is here from the old Prodigy forums?

Great to see the love for KISS ASYLUM.

BTW, a couple of days ago, October 17th, marks the 15 year anniversary of KISS ASYLUM. I started it on 10/17/95. Amazing to see it has continued to last non-stop that long. 15 years people! Where has the time gone??

I remember a radio interview with Paul Stanley when he was asked if he knew about KISS discussions going on online. I remember it because I thought his answer sounded a bit off:

"Yeah, we heard about the Prodigy"

I tried KISS Fansite, but I would say this was my first regular KISS site, other than KOL.

What is the name of that website that is kind of like Facebook for KISS Fans? I signed up a while back, but can't remember the name....
