Is KISS the greatest rock band of all time??

As a disclaimer, let me say that I understand that there are alot of great rock groups with much better muscianship than KISS, and are alot more widely respected. And believe me, I like alot of different artists.

Putting aside musicianship and the fact that other bands write "better music", putting aside the Beatles, because they can't factor into this, as far as what rock and roll is supposed to be, and KISS are very straight up about it, do you think that KISS is the greatest rock group of all time?? Remember, separating musicianship and overindulgence from what we're talking about, and taking away any factors such as the Beatles, the metal movement, the grunge movement, the 80s hair metal shit, etc, do you think KISS is the greatest straight up rock group of all time??

Personally, I do.

Make fun of me, call me crazy, but it's a combination of everything- the makeup, the legend, the straight up dinosaur rock, everything comes together in a way that pleases me in a way no other band has or does.

Thoughts??

When you look at the combination of all the stuff that goes into being a great Rock and Roll band - Yes, KISS is the greatest of all time.

Nah, they aren't. I don't think there is a definitive greatest. There are plenty of them.

I think you have classes of greats.

Class 1: The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones, Black Sabbath

Class 2: KISS, AC/DC, Aerosmith, Rush, Queen, Pink Floyd

And so on....

They will remain one of the best and one of the most influential. And they will always be a huge part of rock n' roll and their influence is obviously felt. They are held high for their contributions, influence, rock music and stage show. As well as revolutionizing arena rock. Rock will not forget them.

They are one of the best. But there isn't a "Best".

Maybe not the best...depending on the definition of the word "best"...but they are my all time favorite. I would choose to listen to no one over Kiss.

the beatles, zepp and stones were great, but i think the live show is very important and kiss is the best in doing great shows!!! what they did in the 70s was amazing, no other band could touch them, and i still think they have the best show, they are unique.

Beatles aside? Yeah. I'd say KISS are the greatest rock and roll band. They typify what rock and roll is, and they celebrate rock and roll in a manner that not only defines KISS, but has (re)defined rock and roll itself.

To see KISS... regardless of the year... is to see 4 guys who put rock and roll on a pedestal.

IMO, The Beatles are not the best band ever.Bands like KISS, Aerosmith, The Rolling Stones, and AC/DC are the best bands ever. They managed to stay alive and release albums through rough times, some not as great as others, but in the long run, they win. The Beatles were the first band to walk the path that Elvis Presley made, without them KISS and any other Rock band would not exist. THATS what makes them a great band, IMO

I think they are, but that is my opinion. You have your opinion and that's cool too. But here is a quote: "You wanna hate us, god love ya. You wanna love us, that's great too. If you're in the middle, get out!"

In my opinion, they belong in a pub. Granted, I like their music, but I don't think they even come close to KISS in both music and entertainment value.

If you did a poll in the US to name the greatest rock band of all time, the Beatles would win it easily. The Beatles music is the most known. They're the most popular rock band of all time.
