Ace Frehley Live - 2008-2009 Era Kicked Ass

Ace was really on fire live during the Anomaly era, gotta say. Fuck.

That solo - he nailed it. (@1:58)

If he were in Kiss, we'd probably still have Sonic Boom as it is, but not have Anomaly.

The former is meh and the latter is stellar.

Regardless of how the man spent his money, I'd rather have a great album on my shelf rather than the poor albums.

"Snowblind", "Shot Full Of Rock", "Breakout", "Into The Void", "Stranger In A Strange Land"... Could someone please remind him of this setlist?

I think, and I could be wrong because they contradict themselves a lot...

You're only allowed to do the following things:

1. Suck it up and give Ace your money because this is the best you're going to get.

2. Shut the fuck up and don't complain because you're never going to get them to not rip you off.

3. Shut up and don't give them money and definitely don't mention why you're not giving them money.

:)

I did too, in 2009. I remember thinking it was strange how he didn't say much at all, compared to the '90s where it was all jokes and stuff between the songs. And I also remember it was painfully loud. But he still brought it, the band was good and he did several songs off Anomaly ("Foxy & Free", 'Sister", "Outer Space", "Fox On The Run") which was cool. The only songs I remember feeling were unnecessary were "Love Gun" and "Shout It Out Loud". Those scales have definitely tipped in the wrong direction since.

In the realm of wishful thinking...This would’ve been my idea of a great album in 2009 with Ace in the band:

1. MDD
2. I’m An Animal
3. Never Enough
4. Outer Space
5. All For The Glory
6. Stand
7. Foxy & Free
8. Russian Roulette
9. Sister
10. Say Yeah

Saw him in May of 2008 in Columbus, Ohio.

No desire to go to any of his current shows. He plays too many overplayed Kiss tracks.

My wife and I saw him twice on the Anomaly tour. Once in Allentown on New Years Eve (setlist: https://www.setlist.fm/setlist/ace-freh ... 5eb6f.html)

We also saw him in Baltimore on the same tour (https://www.setlist.fm/setlist/ace-freh ... 57991.html)

I just remember being disappointed that there were no Anomaly songs in the set. They were tight but not one song from his latest release? Paul songs, Gene songs, but very few Ace solo songs, past or present at the time. We had fun but we wanted hear songs from his solo catalog. No denying his band and playing at the time though. He seemed to be genuinely inspired. I cannot say the same about the last gig I saw . At least he did two new songs.

I usually hate nostalgia acts. They get old, and they just lack the energy and passion and hunger. I avoid most of these shows, no matter how much I love the artist.

But a friend insisted we go. Drove 8 hours to Calgary to see him. And he didn't dissappoint. The band was young and energetic, and Ace wanted to keep up. Now I see clips of Ace, and it's just a bunch of sad old farts on stage playing to a bunch of sad old farts in the crowd. No thanks.

I saw him in 2008 at Bogart's in Cincinnati. I met him before hand outside of the Hotel we shared. I remember the show being great but brutally loud to the point of sounding distorted at times. I was 2nd or 3rd back in the pit and had trouble hearing for a few days after. Totally worth it though.

Yeah, this was the last era where Ace seemed to give a damn.

Great setlists (focusing on his own material both in and out of KISS), and first rate performances.

After this it was a steady decline.

But, for this era, Ace was back and he told you so! I miss THIS Ace Frehley.

A good blip of life and energy from someone who has basically been in a confused cloud since at least 1998.

Was the show you went to in Calgary at Flames Central?? Saw him there around 2008 and he definitely had more energy back then. And I remember it being freaking loud as hell!!! Good times!!

Yes, that was the show. I felt like the youngest person there. I was 30 at the time.

Saw him at the HOB in Chicago and it was great.

The Last Vegas opened and were really good.

Great night.

Too bad the area around the HOB is a war zone now.
