What has impressed you post reunion

Post by acefan1975 »

What is something KISS has done that has impressed you post reunion (say after farewell tour)?

I'll go first with a couple:

I liked the spider stage
the setlist for RTN tour
I think the original EOTR stage was pretty good

I like Sonic Boom a lot, and would probably like Monster more if it wasn't such a harsh listen. Destroyer Resurrected was cool. The entire 2014 vinyl reissue campaign, minus the COTN incorrect mix mishap.
RTN Setlist was such a welcome change.
I liked the Spider stage, even if it didn't always work. A for effort.
Kruises, while I haven't been able to go on any always seem to produce some nice deep cuts.
Finally, End of the road stage and show are incredible. Does Paul's voice sound perfect? Nope. I didn't expect it to. Philly 2019 was the 1st time my whole family went to a KISS show with me, and they all had a blast. It's a memory I will cherish forever.

Wigs, shabs and moobs. And the vocal smoothing pedal.

No, to be serious, the In Your Face gig in Melbourne was fun. (Didn't see it live, just the bootleg.)

The SB era was actually impressive and fun. Just the fact that we were getting an album that we never expected. There was tons of hype and the band seemed recharged there for a year or so.

Their longevity is nothing to sneeze at either. I know we all knock them but when they tour, they tour. They're not just doing the 12-15 major US cities.

And while I've never attended a Kruise, those have been impressive, minus the last couple of lazy ones. The first 5 or so were impressive and I always had a blast just skimming through clips of them performing rare tunes.

Proof is in the pudding; listened to Tokyo 2001 today.
Together with a unplugged my favorite kiss live album.

Hope they can put out a dvd of Australia 2001 at some point.
Tokyo is incredibly tight for a second gig, and they stepped it up further in Australia

All of the Kissology series, the RTN DVD (Eric Singer Cam - a show within a show) and Sonic Boom.

I also really enjoy a fair bit of the music on Gene's Vault.

For some reason I also liked Gene's Speaking in Tongues DVD.

I’m 36 & every time I’ve ever seen KIZZ & Ace live has been post-reunion. They ain’t perfect, but neither am I, & I had fun every damn time, warts & all. Very Thankful for that.

Physical products: I am not a collector of reissues, so I really just love Kizzology 1 & 2 — what great Products !!

TV & Movies:
•Detroit Rock City 1999 flick kickstarted my fandom. Most folks on here hate it, but I love campy flicks & will always cherish this one.
•Gene Simmons Family Jewels gave me some good laughs & was entertaining enough. Not spectacular, but still good.

Gene Simmons Band touring. Sadly they didn’t play anywhere near me, but the footage was cool & I’d love to see em live eventually.🤞

Seeing Peter enjoy retirement & age with happiness, dignity, & contentment has been cool & inspiring.

Gene & Paul endorsing the vaccine & common sense has been great to see. They ain’t 100% perfect, & neither am I. But I’m happy to see em using their platforms for some pro-science messages.

The first thing that popped in to my mind was the cover of Do You Remember Rock n' Roll Radio?

Now the track is great by itself. What made it even cooler was the fact that before the album was released, many were borderline indignant and said that Kiss had no business doing it as the were (falsely) seen as the antithesis of the Ramones. However, once the album came out many reviews recognized Kiss' contribution was one the best.

That at their ages (especially in their 60s and 70s) they can do many shows in a relatively short amount of time.

Couldn't agree more. Great original track and great Kiss remake. And the Ramones tribute album "Were a Happy Family" it is on has a lot of great tracks by a lot of great acts, so Kiss being one of the best on the record definitely is a plus for G&P.

I agree with Do You Remember Rock & Roll Radio being the real highlight, that was one terrific cover song. I don't know why it doesn't seem to get more love. I dig whenever it pops up anywhere, like in Jack Black's movie Rock School, when he's at the dining table with his roommate & Sarah Silverman trying to convince the roommate to form a new band with him - this cover is playing in the background. I really think this is the single greatest thing any of the original members have been involved with in the studio since Unholy, in case you couldn't tell, I think it's absolutely perfect!

Honestly I don't even know who's playing guitar on it, it's got to be Singer on drums but was Thayer in the mix here? Pretty sure that Ramones tribute album came out after Ace left, right?

Imagine if this would have been on You Wanted the Best You Got the Best & been released as the lead single right at the front of the reunion tour, it would have been all over the radio that summer & I think maybe even just scraped into the top 40 by a hair. I love it!

Who doesn’t?!

One of my biggest gripes with present day Kiss is that Paul and Gene (mostly Paul) take themselves too seriously for my liking. The Scooby Doo movie was refreshing because they actually showed that they can lighten up and laugh about Kiss every now and then. I wish we could see that side of them more often.

They haven't really done anything that qualifies as impressive, but I will say that I was surprised at how much I liked the music on the Vault.

There is a so much stuff that should have been on KISS albums - in many cases as opposed what actually made the albums instead. Sure there is some crap on the Vault, but not nearly as much as I expected.

Gene can still deliver as well. I am not a fan of SB or Monster, but he is still certainly the MVP on those albums like he was on Revenge and Carnival.

Even the Kissology shows were hacked up and with incomplete shows for the most part.
