Ace enjoys hunting?

Post by steveh67 »

Fark me, we certainly learn things about our idols these days, we may not like.

Eddie Trunk interview from 2020 and he mentions he likes hunting, and he recently declined an invite from Ted Nugent to go game hunting in Africa. :(

I think Nugent is a farkwit redneck myself.

Damn Ace, everyday I lose a little respect for you as a person.

edit. I eat meat!

p.s I dont like game hunting, particularly in Africa.

As long as we're sharing opinions on this you can put me down as very much against hunting.

Before anyone quotes me to complain...how about don't. I didn't complain to the pro-hunters.

Chicken thighs are the best value and if you want to save even more on chicken you can buy it frozen.

I'm guessing both Gene and Paul would frown on Ace mentioning big game hunting in Africa.

You can stretch the dollar even farther by using the chicken to make stock. This poaches the chicken and leaves you a flavorful stock you can use for cooking soup!

100 percent agreed. There are very few animals in Africa that I agree you can hunt, Wilderbeast,and.... Make that one animal.

There are millions of those. Everything else.. NO. If you shoot Lions, Tigers, Elephants, Giraffes Zebras, you are a POS. Period.

I could live without red meat. as was said earlier, it is too expensive. I have had a cow come up to me and lick my face.

Never had a fish do that.

Hunting is cool if you and your own eat what you kill.
Though I can't imagine Ace bringing a deer by the horns to the girlfriends garage and then proceeding to properly butcher the deer and storing it in the fridge. Responsibly, just to live off of the meat.

Maybe he's changed a lot.

Yeah, I don't have any problem with people hunting for food, but those who do it for the "thrill" of the kill can fuck off right into the sea.

Those canned hunts they have in parts of Africa are obscene - if you've got enough cash, they'll put an animal of your choice in a penned area where it's got zero chance of evading you so you can indulge your Great White Hunter fantasies and blast away at it to your heart's content.

There was a funny one here a few years back - some American tourist woman dressed in full camo gear like she was going to invade the Ukraine pictured beside a feral goat she'd "stalked for hours and killed" on one of the islands...she pretty much got ridiculed out of the country, as the things are so tame you could walk up to one while wearing street clothes and hit it over the head with a bottle.

Believe me, if Nugent invited him on a hunting excursion like that, it was to benefit Ted in some way. Publicity stunt, political support, fan attention, activism bandwagonning….. maybe a reality TV appearance? something. It ain’t simply Ted and Ace hanging out in a deer blind wearing camo with Pabst and beef jerkey. There’s mannnny other people Nugent could successfully hunt with, not to mention those who bring deep financial capability with them, besides Ace.

I remember reading a story (was it in Gene's book?) where Ace was hunting or shooting cans with Israeli made gun and shot himself.
Gene visited him in the hospital and Ace said to hin something along the lines of - you jews can't even make a proper gun or something.

I knew Ace hunted, I just can't remember the source -- probably this very site! I'm also the first male on my father's side not to hunt. I've shot targets and stupid stuff like cans off a log and shit like that. No one in the family's ever made a fuss about it, because they knew I'm not cut out for it. But I've grown up around guns, all my life, and I have no issue with hunters -- provided that they are safety concious ...

Hunting is sometimes encouraged in different sectors of wildlife in order to balance the ecosystem, so I don't think any of us should be quick to judge. But in other news....

Yes, Ace shot himself with an Uzi- an Israeli automatic gun.

Gene most definitely did not find this funny and I don't either.

Ace makes it very hard sometimes for me to favorite him over the others.

I've got no issues with hunting here for ecological reasons, but out in Africa? Yeah, that's a big problem. It's endangered species central out there.

Only problem with that is, animals themselves kill each other all the time for meals.

While I'll always think anyone who abuses animals should be quartered, hunting for food ("kill it and grill it"), which actually is what countless animals do (the grilling part excepted of course), is fine IMO.

I'm not excusing anyone but I have seen with my eyes a photo of Paul Stanley dressed as a Nazi, so Paul obviously didn't have too much of a problem with that kind of thing at the time. Again does it excuse it, no, absolutley not. But it does make me wonder why Paul is so quick to condemn Ace and Peter for it now, when he seemed happy to participate in such behaviour in the 70s.

Yes, I have seen that too, and it was baffling. As was the passage in the Sean Delaney book when Ace told Gene that he designed the Kiss logo after the Nazi SS, saying the SS was for him, and the KI was for Gene and Paul, you two (slurs). Gene got pissed off but then realized that if it pissed him off, it could do that to others and it may draw attention. That did not happen, but he let it go with the thought that it could draw attention to the band. Paul, in his book, said his father was uncomfortable with the double S design in the logo. I think Paul was condemning Ace and Peter for a lot more than just that one incident, especially with Ace. I would assume he would not do such a thing again, but Ace continued to collect Nazi memorabilia, etc. Very disappointing, disgusting and punctured my passion for the band in a big way. I am still a Kiss fan but not nearly as huge as I was. I don't get how Gene and Paul could associate with such a person, but musically and performance wise he was the perfect fit, and I guess that was the most important thing to them. I don't like that, but it's their band and their lives.

Legit game hunting in Africa is limited to those who purchase the scarce few licenses for it, which probably contributes more to that particular country's budget than any other source. The game is used wisely for the local population, and the conservation of the species is tantamount. It's poachers that fuck it all up.

I think there's a bit of embellishment in that story. First, I don't think Ace designed the Kiss logo as some kind of nazi tribute or out of a need to get something 'nazi' in the logo, I believe Ace, being familiar with it, simply thought the nazi "SS" looked cool (which, their original use notwithstanding, they do), and he used it for the logo. And that "K-I" thing meaning they are about Gene and Paul I think is nonsense, if anything just an of-color joke Ace told once. Heck, I never even heard of that until right now and I have absolutely no idea what the "K-I" are supposed to mean in that regard towards Gene and Paul. I mean, Paul came up with the name Kiss, so how can the "K-I" mean anything against G&P?

Eddie Trunk interview from 2020 and he mentions he likes hunting, and he recently declined an invite from Ted Nugent to go game hunting in Africa. :(

I think Nugent is a farkwit redneck myself.

Damn Ace, everyday I lose a little respect for you as a person.

edit. I eat meat!

p.s I dont like game hunting, particularly in Africa.
I love rednecks

There is a Jewish slur that starts with those two letters. Gene got so mad at first he raised his fist, the story goes. Whatever his intention was he was being disgusting about it and Gene let it slide. It's in the "Hellbox" book about Sean Delaney. I can certainly believe it. Again, Paul also said his father was uncomfortable with the logo.
