StillAlive wrote: Fri Sep 17, 2021 10:48 am Ace insists he's not an opening act, he's a "special guest star"

"Because of Covid and stuff, they're not having an opening act. So even though I'm special guest star, I'm going on first...The first show in New Hampshire...I think we'll be playing for 10,000 people. Maybe there are some opening acts in some situations...It's nice to have a 3 act bill and have one group to open up, and a special guest star, and then a headliner. But in some cases it's me and Alice, but you know it's cool. I think everyone understands because of Covid, there's certain guidelines that we have to follow."

Taking a shot at Paul Stanley

"Everybody in my band sings lead. We have 5 lead singers. God forbid I blow my voice out, one of the other guys can cover for me. I would never use tapes, like some people [laughs]."

Upset that Meet and Greets were cancelled

'We're going to be tested twice a week. No one is allowed back stage. Meet and Greets were canceled a couple of weeks ago, which kind of got me a little upset...I'm working around that...we're going to get around it. I'm going to sell some of my painted guitars. If somebody wants to pay a certain fee, I'm going to get up on stage and play the guitar they bought for a song. So you know, we're going to get around that."

On Covid

"I've been vaccinated, I take my vitamins, I work out. My new girlfriend's a personal trainer, on top of being a school teacher and a graphic artist. I eat right. She keeps me in great shape. I'm down to 198, which is the thinnest I've been since I can't remember."

"This God damn virus. Come to a concert and forget about that for a couple of hours. Come see me and Alice and enjoy your life. You've been locked up in a room and afraid to go out. Thank God the virus has subsided in America but in certain places it's still bad...We take the proper precautions. Stay fit. Work out. Take your vitamins and say your prayers at night before you go to bed."

- Ace Frehley on Trunk Nation (9/16/21)
I think I missed the part where he INSISTS he's not an opening act... can you point out that part? Seriously... he's stating that there isn't one before him. wouldn't people want to know that?

If he's not happy with his billing or opening the show or the perception, he can go back to "headlining" car dealerships.

Or he can continue to slag Tommy and Paul. Maybe that will get him back in KISS.

He spends a lot of time lamenting/whining about this. He blames Covid.
In his mind, he shouldn't be opening. He's not an opener. He's a "special guest star". He reminds us more than once.
It should be opener, special guest star, then Alice.
But Covid screwed it all up and is forcing him to open shows. Even though it's beneath his "special guest star" status.
He hopes everyone understands this.

That wasn't his point at all. He's upset that he has to open the shows. Beneath his status as "special guest star". All because of Covid.

Read it again:

"It's going to be very cool. I'm looking forward to it. I don't see any downside or negativity. I mean the only thing I wish, is that, because of Covid and stuff, they're not having an opening act. So even though I'm special guest star, I'm going on first."

What a joke. He IS the opening act. Ace is about as talented as a pimple on Alice Cooper’s ass.

He clearly doesn't consider himself - or want other people to consider him - as a support act, or opening act, hence referring to himself as "special guest" several times.

And yes, the "new girlfriend" stuff (they've been together several years now, haven't they?) is embarrassing, coupled with the shots at Stanley and Thayer all points towards Ace basically being an insecure guy, which is pretty sad at his time of life. Same deal with Stanley, the snark is tedious to listen to for the fans.
And a special guest is equal footing... how?
Um, I didn't say that at any point?

The "new girlfriend" has been around 2 years... that's not several by my definition, but hey... what do I know.
I think the point is he wants folks to know there's no local buffer act while you're getting to your seats, folks. I know it's fun to take his statements in the most negative, pile on way, here... but these cheap shots are as tedious as their comments about each other.
Never let it be said that it's just the Paul Stanley fans who are sensitive about mild criticism

Seeing it written out. Ace speaks like a child.

The "I am no opening act" looks like something out of Spinal Tap. or a SNL sketch with Will Ferrell.

On a three act bill, the guest would go on been the openers and the headliner, in THIS instance Ace is in the opening slot, but doesn't want to acknowledge that he is the opening act, hence the "I'm not an opening act, I'm a special guest" stuff. Seems pretty clear, really. Ace is opening the show.

Every Ace Frehley Interview:

1) Whine about money
2) Take cheap shots at current members of KISS
3) Mention "new" girlfriend

Yet again, Ace managed to check all the boxes.

“Special guest” is typically how a good manager makes the promoter bill an opening act who is famous but not big enough to be touring large venues by themselves. It’s a face saving gesture.

It’s still an opening act.

He did a 90 minute interview with Eddie Kramer last week and didn’t mention any of those things. They talked about KISS albums for at least fifteen minutes.

I saw Alice be the "special guest" for Iron Maiden and Motley Crue. I don't recall him insisting he wasn't the "opening act" before each tour kicked off. In fact, I met him at a convention a few months before the Iron Maiden concert. I mentioned I'd be seeing him with them. He just smiled and said it was going to be a "good show".

Yup, it's all a matter of semantics. And if Ace went on fist, which it sounds like he did, he IS the opening act, whether he wants to admit it or not.

1) Whine about money
2) Take cheap shots at current members of KISS

Yet again, Ace managed to check all the boxes.
Every Eddie Trunk Interview

1) Mention he is friends with the band
2) Mention how they like to bust his balls
3) Mention how they have mutual friends who are in other bands that he is friends with
4) They were just texting the other day…

Which is probably true, but I’m guessing that Eddie initiates 99.9% of those texts

Edit:

1) Whine about money and proclaim, quote, "If the money's right..."
As have you...
That misses the points.
