Which Songs Should Eric Carr Have Sung?

Post by KalB »

As has been discussed many times, throughout his time in KISS Eric Carr always wanted to sing more songs.

So, let's say hypothetically starting with Lick it Up, Carr was given one lead vocal per album. What songs would you have given Eric to sing?

Here's my list:
Lick it Up - Young and Wasted
Animalize - Under the Gun
Asylum - Any Way You Slice It
Crazy Nights - Hell or High Water
Hot in the Shade - Little Caesar or Eyes of Love

I think this would have totally added an extra dimension to these albums, without taking away the spotlight from Paul and Gene. Really a shame they didn't utilize Eric a little more when they had him.

The mind boggles how they would have sounded, considering he was a dead guy and all.

I see a few votes for Young And Wasted but I’m such a fan of Gene’s manic, unhinged, almost psychotic vocal on the studio version that I’m glad they didn’t give that one away. Eric did it well live (ANIMALIZE Live) but Gene slayed it on the original.

I could hear Eric singing Dance All Over Your Face or While The City Sleeps, but I think for the most part they were better off with Paul & Gene doing the lead throughout the 80’s. They were always the best singers, along with Peter when he was in the band. Everybody else was more about the novelty/variety aspect of it.

Shandi (yeah I know he wasn’t hired yet, but I could hear him singing this and it being his Beth or Hard Luck Woman - type ballad).
Just A Boy
Under The Rose
Partners In Crime
Don’t Leave Me Lonely
Saint and Sinner
All Hells Breakin Loose
While The City Sleeps
Who Wants To Be Lonely
Can You Feel It
Reason To Live
(You Make Me) Rock Hard
Eyes Of Love
Silver Spoon
Boomerang
God Gave Rock & Roll To You (the last two verses trading off with Bruce after P & G sing the first two.)

None. I can't stand his voice. Never could.

Nah. Eric Carr’s voice wasn’t very good or unique or anything special to be honest. He could absolutely sing in key and was not a bad singer in any way, but his voice didn’t really add much.

Love Eric Carr, but he was a monster on the drums, not behind the mic. When he sang, he sounded like he could've been anybody. Would it bother me having Eric sing on the other records? Nope -- would've been glad he got a track. He wanted to be more and do more than was stipulated in his job description. A lot of us can relate to that.
