Of course. Used to hop on my sister's piano and sing 'Be My Mirror' to my niece (when she was young enough to not cringe or wince)

Big fan of Prince

Saw him live back in 2012. Brilliant performance, very sad when he passed.

His new album that is out, Welcome 2 America 2 is great. He was so prolific

Suggestions for rock fans that aren’t really into Prince or only know Purple Rain.
Here’s a few songs you might like. Keep in mind in most cases he’s playing all the instruments.
Debut album entitled For You: I’m Yours. It’s a rocker.
Second album entitled Prince: Bambi
Controversy album: Let’s Work
1999 album: Lady Cab Driver
Around The World In A Day: Tambourine (crazy drum part)
Sign O The Times: The Cross
The Black Album: Rock Hard In A Funky Place
Batman Soundtrack: Batdance or Vicki Waiting
Diamonds And Pearls: Live 4 Love
The Symbol Album: 7
The Gold Experience: Endorphin Machine or Dolphin

That’s just a few tunes. He’s got something for everyone.
Go to YouTube and look up his RRHOF performance if you haven’t seen it. It’s pretty incredible.

If he was more guitar based, perhaps. His style of pop, from what I've heard, didn't make me feel like investigating further.

I understand what you’re saying. I thought that at first.
Then I started to hear that guitar, bass, drum stuff
The bootlegs always freaked me out because they were nothing like what he released to the public.
That being said, there’s a bunch of stuff for the rock fan in his library. I listed a few selections up above.
But yeah, I totally get your statement.
I used to be indifferent to Prince. Then one day I saw the Raspberry Beret video.
That was the last straw! I was like WTF!!! I liked Prince....sort of...everything was kind of cool. Didn’t hate it, didn’t love it..,,it was kinda cool, but that’s where it ended.
Then I saw that video and I was like, WTF???....
It was like the dumbest video I’d ever seen... or was it?
That day I had had enough!!
Either this was total bullshit or there was something else going on.
I decided that there was something weird and strange and magical going on. So I decided that he WASN’T full of shit and maybe there’s something going on here that I don’t understand and I need to figure it out.
I decided that there was something going that I needed to explore.
I been chasing that insane rabbit hole ever since.
The man taught me about multi instrumentslism and a crazy work ethic.
He’s the musicians musician.
Period.

Now that I think about it, it makes sense that at least 60% of fans here like Prince.
He’s a polarizing figure just like Kiss. Either you get it or not.
I think most hard core Kiss fans are overall more tolerant and accepting of controversial artists.

i just never liked his lightweight music, You mention raspberry beret, you love or hate. Was just never a fan. Each to their own, I love The carpenters, if any group was more lightweight than Prince, they would be it !!. But her voice is incredible. Maybe Prince is too heavy on the pap side for me, but the Carpenters ain`t !! :P

I get it. People like what they like.
What I was saying is that I went from loving Kiss and Judas Priest and Rush to Prince? ... how the hell did that happen? It was a slow burn but once it kicked in it became an obsession lol.
Listen to “Sometimes It Snows In April” and get back to me.
Prince was quoted as saying, “every once in a while I need to think about making a hit, I need to pay all these people working for me”.
Another very TELLING thing he once said was, Q: do you feel that you are a conduit through which God speaks?
A: No, we just practice a lot”.
Lol
I’d love to hook you up with some strait guitar based stuff that he’s done. It’s sort of underground and lots of it is bootlegs. He’s deep.
Yes there are hits, but if you look at his records he doesn’t always go for the hit. But as he says, he always felt an obligation to feed the machine and keep people employed. The occasional hit would keep things moving.

Sure, but then you have bad masturbation and good masturbation. That solo is empty house, curtains closed, 100% battery on the iPad, scented oil, candlelight and a bed of roses.

My favorite 'Pop' artist.
One of the best guitar players ever.
Absolutely adore his electronic stuff as well: Dirty Mind is my favorite album, 1999 rules as well.
First concert I ever visited: Parade tour 1986. What more can I say...

each to their own, but lightweight?

Come off it.

In terms of music, KISS is as lightweight as it can get.

Love Gun, Lick It Up, Let's put the X in Sex etc.
