When comparing the last two studio albums from the Carr/Kulick/Simmons/Stanley line-up which do you think has aged better?

Hot in the Shade

... with its slightly ecclectic, somewhat bluesy-tinged offerings has dated better than Crazy Nights. But Crazy Nights still has that slick production and atmospheric quality in its favor.

I have these right next to each other in my order of 24.

18 - Crazy Nights
19 - Hot in the Shade

I think both have 3 good tunes. But I give CN the edge because of the title track… which is 1 of my Top 10 Kizz tunes 1984 to present.

I can’t really say which one has aged better with the fans but for me personally CRAZY NIGHTS has been an album I’ve revisited far more often than HITS over the years. I think a fair bit has to do with the production. The production qualities of CN isn’t great, but on HITS it’s pretty much non existent. I’ve always considered the songs on HITS to be pretty good, but I can’t listen to it much because of the way it sounds.

I have created several KISS Spotify playlists and pretty much whenever a HITS tune comes on I find myself skipping them. Even the supposed better songs are a hard listen alongside the better production of other albums. Maybe HITS is a bit like HOTTER THAN HELL, CARNIVAL OF SOULS and MONSTER. It’s a better listen on its own than in a mixed playlist. 🤷‍♂️

HITS isn't as good but the simple (or lack of) production has made it date less than the super-shiny CN.

They're both dated in their own ways. CN is dated by the 80s sound, but HitS also has that dated early CD-era trend of making an album 20 minutes longer than an LP because you think you have to.

HITS remastered sounds incredibly better than the original.

Just having some fun. This carries over from another thread which you clearly haven’t read yet. If you did (and you weren’t showing your bias) you too would be mocking TT for his comment. You’re only seeing half the story here.

I did read it. You're just doing here another of your usual routines - when you get called out, always claim you were "kidding" or "just having fun." Whatevs.

Both top 5 albums (sometimes top 3). I think HITS has aged better though I'd put CN above it

I like both albums very much, Crazy Nights a bit more than Shade. But it’s a tough question — which has aged better? I really can’t tell because they are both connected to strong memories from my childhood and it makes it hard to listen to them objectively.

However, I guess it’s easier to hear that CN was produced in the mid 80s, while Shade would be a bit harder to point out when it was made, don’t you think. I mean, could it have come out in, say, 1993? Maybe Shade aged just a little bit better.

Crazy Nights has aged well like a fine wine. A lot of the old brigade on here don't realise that the 80s sound has been reassessed and back in fashion for years now. Keyboards are nothing to be ashamed of these days. I love it - perfect pop albjm.

Hot In The Shade is just awful apart from Forever and a couple more ok 7/10 tracks like Silver Spoon. Cadillac Dreams is beyond shit, an abomination of a track.

LOL, I almost spilled my drink over the keyboard.

I agree with you 100%.......... both albums suck.
That being said soundwise I would pick HITS, sounds more basic rock than the high pitched vocals and keyboard sound of CN.

That is the question. Neither has aged well at all. I like a song here and there, but overall both albums sound awful.
