Gene in an Eighties Slasher Movie

Post by southernkiss »

Why did this never happen? It seems like it would have been the perfect role for him with fire, blood, and growling.

Perhaps to not step on his wife's toes as a Scream Queen?

She could have played the protagonist while Gene played the villain. Eighties slashers were not shy about nudity. Ms. Tweed was not shy about her body. With as many women as Gene has chased down, he would be a natural at a role chasing down women with an axe and sucking their blood. He could even have worn his Demon makeup!

Maybe they were both open to it but nothing came to fruition. Actor couples often want to act together, but they soon realize that such an opportunity is rare to unlikely. A lot of 'politics' are involved, obviously. It may be that Gene & Shannon recorded themselves doing a scene at home and it didn't work ...

Because the roles of rich evil asshole and crazy crossdresser were a more accurate reflection of his character at that time

I love Trick or Treat, but he's in it for a scene. Gene as a guy who is a charming ladies man, only for him to turn out to be a mentally screwed up slasher would make sense. Unfortunately, for that to work, the film would have to build. At the time, screenwriters were flat out told, "Every 7-10 minutes, there should be a scare or a kill," and in doing so, you typically weren't able to pace a film how you wanted. For instance, Sleepaway Camp is paced in such a way where the frequency in kills starts to get cut in half, until the end is a lovely slasher spree before the infamous reveal. Most slashers did not do this, though a few of them possibly should have. Perhaps maybe the first Child's Play might sort of play out like that. Anyways, it is an interesting way to pace a film.

It’s like Asylum meets Dynasty.

Soundtrack was good but would have been much better if it was made up of more than just one band! Good movie tho', the second half especially is silly as heck but still fun.

well the actual soundtrack was made up of more than one band.

Listen closely when Ragman goes to the radio station when he finds out Sammy died. The song Scream Until You Like It is playing.

It's not a slasher film, but this is probably one of Gene's best roles...in my book anyway...

All the slashers in those 80's movies were masked or with heavy makeup, so Gene wouldn't have accepted because he wanted to keep away from that :P

I have the "Trick or Treat" CD which I enjoy listening to!

They should remake this, bigger and better and at least a trilogy!
