And probably most anywhere in the world including North America. They were the most popular band in the late 70's. Today, I hear more Kiss songs on the radio than VH tunes.Alejandro wrote: ↑Wed Jul 21, 2021 9:24 amIn ALL of Southamerica, Kiss has many many more "hits" (mind the inverted commas) than Van Halen. Van Halen is a band that only (old) rockers recognize because of the genius of EVH and the song Jump, and not even like a BIG hit, Jump is played nowadays in the same radio space that brings you Take on me by A-Ha. Maaaybe they also throw "Just a gigolo" or "California Girls" (go figure).Grand Classic wrote: ↑Wed Jul 21, 2021 8:26 am The general public are going to recognize/know VH's songs from both eras far more than they are going to recognize/know KISS songs. VH had real hits. KISS did not.
I am not sure how truly popular a rock BAND is when the vast majority of the world don't even know your songs, but sure you have done a hell of a job with marketing and promotion to make your image and show so recognizable.
Van Hagar wasn't even on the radar in Southamerica, but of course that's because the band didn't actually promote themselves down here.
I'm not arguing about VH popularity and sales in the US. They are one of the biggest in rock (well deserved).
But not only images, also hits, by far Kiss did bigger business in Southamerica and maybe in Europe.

I hear FAR more VH than Kiss on classic rock radio, but I honestly can't remember the last time I EVER heard a VH song on satellite radio. Them (and AC/DC too, for that matter) are conspicuously absent on the Sirius 70's on 7 playlist, and it certainly can't be because no one gives a damn about them, so I'm guessing some sort of agreement hasn't been met?

They play a ton of VH and Kiss tracks on ozzys boneyard. Alot of Kiss tracks on hairnation as well.Vandelay Industries wrote: ↑Thu Jul 22, 2021 7:25 am I hear FAR more VH than Kiss on classic rock radio, but I honestly can't remember the last time I EVER heard a VH song on satellite radio. I have VH set as a favorite artist on Sirius in my truck and they pop every five minutes. Sirius plays them constantly, and thank goodness it's 75% Dave songs.Vandelay Industries wrote: ↑Thu Jul 22, 2021 7:25 am I hear FAR more VH than Kiss on classic rock radio, but I honestly can't remember the last time I EVER heard a VH song on satellite radio. Yeah, I've since heard VH on the Sirius hard rock stations, so I guess it's just 70s on 7 that don't play them. 5 years of that station playing at work, and I've yet to hear anything from them, not even a token spin of Dance The Night Away... strange.AxlisKing wrote: ↑Thu Aug 05, 2021 8:51 pmI have VH set as a favorite artist on Sirius in my truck and they pop every five minutes.
