I always thought the photo was from 1978, but was surprised to find out it was from 1980.

100% spot-on. This has always been an interesting point in the band's history to me. I can see how the record company would go after KISS, as they're only looking at past record sales; Dynasty and all prior releases selling well. But for Aucoin and his team, as well as the band themselves, to be so oblivious as to how much (and fast) the rock music climate was changing and how much of their audience had jumped ship...it's pretty astounding.
