Ace Frehley demo of The Boys are back in town

Post by rocknrollallnight »

Ace Frehley demo of The Boys are back in town, a Thin Lizzy cover. I have heard several times from different places that Ace did a demo of The Boys are back in town, but I have never been able to find it. Does it exist???

Sounds great if it's from the 70's or even 80's. If it was recent, I'll have to pass. He already butchered Emerald.

I remember hearing that rumor back in the late 80's.

He was jamming on "Emerald" during soundchecks on the 92 "Just For Fun" tour.
I thought his version was cool.

He butchered the Emerald riff. Played it all wrong.

And his vocal sounded like it was a 45rpm single being played at 33.

Peter would've made a great guest vocalist for this song,

Still trying to figure out if Ezrin ripped off TL or the other way around when DRC was written. There are a LOT of stylistic similarities between the 2 songs. The feel, basic power chords in the chorus, the little bass lick, the prominent guitar harmony parts. The songs were both from 1975, I believe. DRC is pretty unlike any other KISS song in those specific ways (at least all in the same place anyway).

I’ve brought it up before and yes, KISS used power chords a bit of harmony, shuffle before but it’s the combination and similarity of these 2 songs specifically that always made me wonder.

Strange that aside from the basic shuffle riff from Acrobat/MTY and the early demo, most of the similarities came from Ezrin. The demo is a basic shuffle with none of the guitar breaks or harmony sections.
