I've had that on cassette tape since at least early 1992. I used to fool my brother by playing the beginning in the car and he would fall for it several months apart thinking I was changing the selection on my FM stations.
I also burned it onto CD twenty years ago complete with color cover.

I love that album! I have it on vinyl and cd, two different versions with slightly different song lists. My fave covers album by far.

I absolutely hated this album when it came out. I took a preview of it recently, though, and I didn't mind it. My position on cover tunes has changed greatly over the years, though...and my musical tastes aren't so narrow anymore either. I used to feel like changing a KISS song was sacrilegious and just playing it WRONG...where now I feel if you're just going to try and play it as close as possible, what's the point? I'd rather just listen to KISS play it... Like Benante's band, it's impressive as hell how dead-on their All The Way cover is...but after a listen or two, if I wanna hear that song, I'm going to put on HTH.

Here's my cassette copy. I never understood what the title 'Hard To Believe' was supposed to mean but I always though it fit the 'warped' image on the cover very well....it made me think that it was 'hard to believe' old KISS songs were influential to the new bands (at the time), maybe?

I love this album.
It was one of the first tributes I owned and led me off the deep end into the world of Kiss covers.
And I'm with Rip & Destroy--I always assumed the title referred to the idea that it was "hard to believe" Kiss could have inspired these alternative bands.

Fans of Kisstory Science Theatre will recognise Bullet LaVolta’s cover of Detroit Rock City from their opening theme..
I love Hard to Believe. Some real gems there from some of the greats of the late 80s underground/alternative/punk/grunge - whatever you wanna call it - scenes. All (aka Descendents), Coffin Break, Skin Yard, Nirvana (a three-piece Seattle beat combo worth checking out), Chemical People and Australia’s legendary Hard-Ons.

Have had this on CD for 30 years. My first KISS tribute album. Spun it quite a bit back in the day
One of the best parts about it is the inner part of the booklet, all the merch. Had never seen most of these items back then
I scanned it in for you all to see. I used the highest quality settings. Wondering if one of you photoshop wizzes can get rid of the seam?

Does anyone here recall whose collection that was? It may have been a fan from Sydney? I remember those Eric and Vinnie dolls being featured in John Raptis' KISS THIS!

KISS had hopped off the Bon Jovi Bandwagon by 1994. They had been riding the Metallica/Pantera train and were about to board the Soundgarden/Alice In Chains/Smashing Pumpkins bus.Doose wrote: ↑Thu Apr 08, 2021 9:15 amBon Jovi must not have released an album that year to emulate the cover from.ACESTATION wrote: ↑Thu Apr 08, 2021 4:02 amand the cover of "Kiss My Ass" was from a cover of Led Zeppelin's album Presence which we all know.Lofton23rdSt wrote: ↑Thu Apr 08, 2021 3:09 am It my favorite tribute album, but I don't have a lot. Some good stuff on this & on Kiss My Ass
Covers can be pretty awesome if they're re-arranged a bit or at least the covering artist puts their own spin on the original. Otherwise, what's the point?

I agree, unless it’s Extreme trying to funkify Strutter, then it just turns into a hideous plodding mess.Hotter Than Heck wrote: ↑Fri Apr 09, 2021 4:45 am Some good stuff on this & on Kiss My Ass

Then again, I absolutely love the Donnas cover, which is dead faithful to the original.
Maybe it’s just covers of Strutter that I’m confused by?

Bought the vinyl when 1st released.
Bought it in CD around reunion time.
Originally a novelty, truthfully most versions are subpar.

“Corey Luke Brennan”
Still a sentimental favorite, for the times and for being the first such album that i know of — i had to have it for the brilliant concept alone.
There’s some garage-level musicianship in here (only the drummer is saving Deuce, haha) but the verve is intact and i enjoy it quite a bit overall.
Nice extra on the Love Gun finale, blowing stuff up all KISS-like, too.
P.S. — Wait, this has also gotta be the only album to include Beth / Death covered THREE times over! Unlisted, but there. I skimmed thru the OP’s Link above and found that third take after the usual end — that’s not on my CD — is it really from another pressing or did the YouTuber tag it on from somewhere else?
I’m also very curious to know more if there IS a Hard To Believe Vol 2. It would be hard to believe i hadn’t heard about it before now!
