The Phantom of the Park was the worst, by far.

The other embarassments can be argued to not have been controlled, like sharks showing up or not. But The Phantom was completely KIϟϟ's call. Anywhere along the way, the suck could have been recognized and mitigated.

Instead ... they're all like, "... what have we done?!" Yes, there was some naiveté involved but even with that taken into account ... someone involved in the project knew better. But they went and released it, anyway!

I’m going with the parade. That top picture is just emotionally deflating.

The shark thing, nobody really gave a shit much outside of this group.

The other two things, you can argue that KISS was still relevant at the time, so people were still interested and looking. Same actually for the super bowl, Olympics, or what have you.

But just take a hard look at that top pic......
You’ve got a chubby majorette probably volunteering to work the parade with her Dad, dressed in used marching band uniforms and were probably hoping to be escorting Santa’s Sleigh .... but they’re stuck holding a banner that looks to be made by the local retiree sewing club.

Then you’ve got KISS ..... the band who once ruled the world - being towed on a trailer with a pick up truck down a street, dodging piles of horse shit along the parade route. With half the parade-goers thinking, “these clowns aren’t very entertaining; where’s the ones who all get out of that little red car with the squeeze horns”. Oh look who’s coming up next behind them kids.... it’s the Smokey The Bear float!!! This is KISS. MY KISS!!!! Come on man.

At least Phantom was an event many looked back at fondly, even if they admit it was hokey as al hell. There was the excitement, the anticipation, the gathering around the TV set. An yes, I'd venture to say more kids did not initially poo poo the movie. They probably thought it was the coolest thing ever.

I doubt many are going to look at the Shark event and say...damn, that was the greatest moment of my entire life.

The shark show is ridiculous, but the Macy's Parade made me sad on Thanksgiving, which is pretty hard to do.

Shark show hands down for me. I don’t see the Macys parade as the giant embarrassment that everyone else does. It is just not a giant, over the top spectacle we expect from KISS. KMtPotP is loved by most fans because it is so cheesy. Looking back, it is exactly what you would expect from KISS in 1978. The Flo and Eddie show was just a local TV show and they were just doing a stupid skit. Dumb skit to be sure, but nothing too cringe worthy to me. I simply can’t come up with any excuse or any redeeming value to the shark show. Just stupid as Hell on every level, now and forever.
