Can’t say I was paying attention to his feet in the 70s and don’t recall seeing images. I’ll take you word for it.

Maybe one leg is shorter than the other and he wears a lift in one shoe but is so self conscious that he Instinctively lifts that leg?

I guess it's possible Paul has one leg shorter than the other. I'm just trying to figure out why he'd do it and seemingly more now as he gets older. It's such a weird thing to do as some kind of affectation.

I don’t think it happens more as he gets older. I think it’s just that he has his picture taken far more frequently these days, due to M&G’s etc.

What I am wondering is if he does it in the platform boots. I’m thinking he does not, which suggests he (probably subconsciously) does it to feel taller in photos. It would tie in with his apparent insecurities. He feels less adequate as the real Paul out of costume.
