They purposely do that to talk up each album. Every band does it. It’s verbal promotion.GACatmandu wrote: ↑Mon Nov 23, 2020 10:29 amI remember they said that Destroyer thing about every album in the 1980s it was always the new album will be a mix of Destroyer and whatever the last album was.Two Headed Dog wrote: ↑Mon Nov 23, 2020 9:00 am Read an interview in 1985, while they were working on what would become Asylum. They said the upcoming album would sound like a mix of Destroyer and another album (can't remember which one). When it was released it sounded nothing like Destroyer; not the songwriting, not the lyrics. not the production...
Like this: Paul would say "The new album is going to sound like a cross between Destroyer and Animalize." When being asked about the album coming out soon, in this case Asylum. I remember him saying the same shit right before Crazy Nights was released. Paul used this same line for just about every KISS album in the 1980s, I think I saw the same crappy line in reference to Carnival Of Souls a while before they announced the reunion tour and that album was going to be released next.

Serious question; why have you stuck around? It sounds like you’ve had less than 10 good years. If I deemed something to be more disappointing than enjoyable I’d be long gone. Why put yourself through it? Not saying that give you grief, I’m literally just curious.andreww1962 wrote: ↑Mon Nov 23, 2020 7:35 amThe guys in KISS have brought far more disappointment in my life than good. Full of shit? 1998 with the fake reunion album.
And by 1999 I realized they were incompetent when they just repeated all the mistakes of “super KISS” that were their downfall. Style over substance, stupid half-assed projects things like movies, the over over over commercialisation and merchandising that they swore in the 90s was a huge mistake and they’d never repeat, that lame Aerosmith wannabe song that sounded nothing like KISS ... the wrestler, Gene just being an asshole in every interview, marginalising Ace and Peter, the list just goes on and on.

The first thing I couldn't get over was the new tracks on the You Wanted The Best album. I couldn't (and still don't) understand why they insisted those were vintage recordings. That's when the rot set in.

Re: When I first realized KISS was full of Sh*t
Yeah that was kind of it for me as well. Even though I knew that KISS had used ghost players in the past, I at least understood the reasons. (Ace wasn't available so Dick Wagner stepped in. Peter was in no shape to play on Dynasty and Unmasked. Etc, etc). But somehow PC felt different. Unlike the examples prior, KISS REALLY went out of their way to promote PC as a reunion record of the 4 originals and fans bought into it hook, line, and sinker! When I finally heard the album and the truth started to come out, that was the first time as a fan that I truly felt marginalized by the band. It was the first time I think I understood what KISS was REALLY about. That they really don't give a shit about their fans. That they do not see the KISS Army as fans at all. They see us as customers, plain and simple. So that's when I started seeing KISS, not as a band, but as kitsch merchants.

The whole Gene Simmons discovered Van Halen bit. For one, VH was already headlining the Whiskey and the Troubadore, and selling out every time, so Gene wasn't exactly discovering some unknown garage band. He also FAILED to get them a record deal like he promised. Thats right, he had one of the biggest bands in the planet in his pocket, and he passed. So is Gene a genius? Quite the opposite. He seems to brag about this very frequently, but quite frankly, I have no idea what he's bragging about?

Because now more than ever it would be a good time to do something for their fans, not for money. Would it have been so hard to do this show for free? Plenty of people are hurting, physically, financially and mentally, why not use your fame to do something meaningful. Nothing wrong with making money, but using a worldwide pandemic as your platform to make huge dollars is just wrong. Plenty of time to make money later.Mr Slow wrote: ↑Tue Nov 24, 2020 3:07 amHow is this the ultimate sign that they don’t give a shit? They are playing a live concert and streaming it for profit. Is anybody in this world not full of crap at least some of the time? Sure, the way the reunion was pulled off wasn't really getting "the band" back together. On the EOTR tour, the "Love Gun" vocals continuing while Paul was on the zip line was confusing, to say the least. KISs could've ended after the reunion. I'm glad they didn't.

For me, it was when I could hear two Paul Stanleys singing on the Alive 2 version of "Tomorrow and Tonight." I still loved 'em, but as a kid, that was the first inkling of disillusionment. Hardly native to KISS, of course.

Re: When I first realized KISS was full of Sh*t
Bruce Kulick is my guitar hero, thats all, we are not family. So, I cant take it petsonally when he's occasionally besmirched, or belittled for not being Ace Frehley, or even Paul Stanley, for that matter. But his reputation for being a pill when onstage isn't really fair. He's not uninhibited like David Lee Roth might be, but Bruce had gotten out of his shell quite a bit during his tenure in KIϟϟ. No, what I don't understand is when KIϟϟ shits on its 80's output and on Bruce's solos, in particular.
Gene's famous "angry bee" comments and all that. But listen to No, No, No and tell me that Kulick wasnt encouraged to just go for it. But forget that, its how KIϟϟ is so dismissive of the unmasked years, altogether. Especially, as we all know, a large chunk of those were during Bruce's tenure. The man's a virtuoso! Those records sound great, but ... Bruce wasn't the guy with the silver spikes painted over his eyes, so he doesn't count. Bruce plays how i wish i could and even I can play better than Ace.

2012, let me explain...
I was born when kiss was WAY past their prime. 2001 to be exact. Fell in love with the dynasty album around 07 and memorised every members name. My dad proceeded to get me rock the nation as a present. As soon as I open the cover, I notice ace and Peter aren't there, instead Eric and tommy. Didn't think much of it (what 6 year old would?) And still loved the dvd. However a couple years after I slowly lost interest in kiss.
Fast forward to 2012, my kiss obsession reignited when dad presented me with two tickets to see them on their monster tour. I was a bit older then and was learning more about morals and whatnot. Listened to Pauls and Gene's audiobook, but it never sat with me right that they were driving two previous members into the ground so aggressively as if they were completely useless. If they were so bad, why did you hire them in the first place?
So to be exact, monster was my epiphany
