Still irrelevant. You said yourself faster isn't better.

And yes, Hagar is a clown and I'd bet he doesn't even believe that. He was just shitting on Eddie because he had a record to sell.
You don't know anything about guitar playing. It's not irrelevant that he could play faster. That's what I mean by outplaying. Hagar isn't a clown. They sold millions of albums with him.

So what is this about, arm wrestling?
Guitar playing or song writing
To think that Vinnie can compete in either arena with EVH is laughable.

This poll is the equivalent of Metallica vs Trixter.

Personally, I'm a bit tired of the measuring of musicians against one another. What's the point? I have at least 30 artists/bands I follow on a regular basis. Probably more, it's just a ballpark figure. I like them all. I don't find it necessary to rank them against each other all the time.
This. All year long. 👍

Plus, I don't think Eddie was a good person. How they stabbed Michael Anthony in the back like that. He was always crying and whining to his manager.
You're the expert here Sphinx, but I seem to have read interviews in the past that suggested VV wasn't well regarded among some of his bandmates since KISS. In fact I don't recall ever hearing that he was a joy to work with from anyone.

To the question about being better for KISS, that's impossible to say, as we don't know what kind of creative energy would have been sparked between GaP and EVH. Who knows what Eddie would have done with their ideas and how awesome those songs could have been?

Well instead of VINIMALIZED we all imagined how great that could have been......

I'm just thinking Eddie would have gotten Gene and Paul to be a keyboard heavy band instead.

Reminds me of KISS doing the INTRO of Jump in 1988 or so.... and then Paul trashing it.

Look at Van Halen....3 strong albums.

Then Fair Warning ....which wasn't near as good. Then a crap covers album basically. Then big time keyboards.
Well, their "big time keyboards" song Jump was a #1 song, and with Panama, Hot for Teacher and I'll Wait on the 1984 album all in the top 20. That kind of success is something KISS with (or without) VV never came close to. Add that to the first three strong albums and you've got a pretty good indicator of the mark EVH left on music.

In all fairness VH was MTVs darling, whereas KISS wasn't but the music speaks for itself on classic radio rotations every day.

No disrespect intended. I know you are a VV superfan. He wrote some great songs for sure, but I would have liked to have seen what kind of album VANIMALIZED would have been.
Including the first VH album selling 10 million copies!

Vinnie never came close to VH in any way. VH music is on a different level.

Besides being a genre changing, brilliant guitarist,EVH was helped to write some classic rock songs. Vinnie never wrote or cowrote a classic song

Would I prefer to hear Vinnie on the Kiss albums he played on than Van Halen playing on them? Yes, no question.

I'd also prefer to listen to some of the songs from the first VVI album than many of Van Halen (the band's) songs.

But in terms of guitar playing ability, influence, impact, critical and commercial success, longevity and all other measures, EVH would win by a country mile. I don't even think VV himself would disagree.

Or one of its lesser imitators. Cracked? Crazy?

When EVH died, there was, and continues to be, a massive outpouring of grief for a true musical innovator who left his mark on the world and brought joy to many.

Vinnie, by comparison, is a small fish in an even smaller pond.

The funny thing is, she was WAY ahead of her time. If she'd waited until Youtube came along she'd have been massive! I never took much notice of her at the time but I recently watched a few of her videos and she seems to be a really accomplished guitarist, albeit with ZERO taste and a way OTT personality that I think probably stopped people wanting to work with her (though I am surprised Gene never got involved). I actually really admire her audacity and I think she's really cool in her own way.

Kat and Vinnie should do a duet!

Eddie impacted music forever, he changed the way guitar was played forever, and he inspired millions upon millions of kids to play the guitar.

Vinnie? He didn’t impact music or guitar playing at all. That’s not to say the guy isn’t talented. He’s a very good songwriter and guitarist, but comparing someone who was (and still is) a public icon, to someone who was hired in KISS and was a direct Randy Rhoads copycat (a shitty one ) is ludicrous. Not to mention, most of Vinnie’s solos are just a sloppy mess and lacks any melody
He did more than Mark St. John.
And Ace Frehley did more than Vinnie did if you multiplied it by what Mark St. John did and Ace had a tenth of the ability of either of them.

In the 3.5 albums of recorded music Vinnie has released, he has yet to come close to accomplishing what Eddie Van Halen accomplished on Van Halen.

It's ludicrous to think anything differently.

No matter which way you want to say it, Vinnie couldn't outdo anything over Eddie.

I hope you are indeed trolling or just having some fun here, because otherwise you are just showing people that are clueless.
Vinnie did play faster.
The folks I see getting into car wrecks because they're driving faster than make are better drivers?

Vinnie's fast playing is basically a car wreck. It's not like can play as fast as Hammett, Mustaine, Vai, St. John, and I could go on and on.

Because when Vinnie plays fast, it sounds like detuned fart. He has no concept of melody or structure. It's just him throwing up notes.

Again, it's a leather corset, not a thong. When you turn fifteen, seek out the difference. Again, my avatar has no significance or bearing on this conversation or anything else here.
Your name is Frehley's Vomit too. You have that avatar, because it's a thong. That's mature. I'm responding with substance. You come on this board and attack everything.
Yeah, no love for the poster to whom you're responding, but in this instance, he's right.

Instead of responding to someone's post, you're responding to their avatars.

That's... not really a mature debate style.

3.5 albums vs 3.5 albums.

Yeah, it would.

Except one is a legend and one is a nobody.

The one thing I hear is that Vinnie plays faster than Eddie did.

Yeah, Vinnie has recorded faster licks....however...those licks are basically unlistenable garbage lacking musicality and melody.

Ergo...he cannot play faster than Eddie Van Halen. Because I could whip out a 600 BPM solo right now...it would be one note...does that mean I can play faster?

Hell no it does not.

If you can't play WELL when you're moving quickly...you're just a reckless driver and not a race car driver.

Jerry was a race car driver.

But to sum up, Eddie is a guitar icon and Vinnie is one of a million imitators.

There is no metric other than personal taste, or lack thereof, to say Vinnie is better than Eddie.

The Great Kat's persona was hilarious because she was basically like a wrestler. Always talking shit about how everyone else sucked and she was the greatest and just being as antagonistic and off-putting as possible. A total heel.
