Favorite Gene bass
I remember 10 years ago when Cort released cheaper versions of the Axe and the Punisher basses.
Part of me wishes they would have done the 1977 Spector bass as well

I like the Pedulla in the Reason To Live video.
They make a similar-ish Punisher, but it's not quite as cool...and not 7k cool.

I think it would look better on a white bass, like the Pedulla, though.

The 2nd Spector bass as seen on KMtPotP and used in the early eighties is my favorite.

Gene's little used Gibson EB-O from the Paul Lynde show is super cool. Or the first Spector.
Generally not keen on the Axe. Cool in it's own way but not as cool as his 'regular' basses.

He should really get Punisher to make a replica of it if they ever do get to play again.

Grabber.
Punisher.
The Axe was always too cheesy for me. I preferred the original version.

I’ve always been surprised about how long Gene has pushed The Punisher. I never thought it could compare to almost any basses he had. In particular the Spectors and EB-0. Honorable mention to the Thunderbird in 78’

The Spector 77 bass with the metal studs.
I also thought he looked cool with the Gibson Thunderbird bass (in Phantom) too.

Re: Favorite Gene bass
The one with his makeup face really was damn cool (in the 80’s). But overall, yes hands down - the Axe; in whatever form. Probably the coolest bass guitar in rock music period.
Besides the EVH stripes, just about the only thing that could come close to Gene’s Axe would perhaps be Ted Nugent’s “DEPICTED” shotgun guitar on the “Weekend Warriors” cover... but that never actually existed; it was a drawing.

Spector II, Last seen on the Rise to it Video, where is it now?

The 1991 Black Widow Body prototype punisher, auctioned last year
Super aggressive design, can't understand why he changed it.

Cool info! Thanks. The Punisher is a such a great bass, in all iterations, but that Black Widow version is really great.C wrote: ↑Tue Nov 17, 2020 6:44 amYes it is! Super mean design!
No, BC Rich was involved in the "current" design as well
Another variation, current body with early binding

Re: Favorite Gene bass
When I clicked open this thread, my first thought was...it's the Punisher. We all know it's the Punisher...but after skipping down memory lane..
You know... I have no idea.
The other thought that occurred to me is that Gene, unlike Paul and Ace, looks weird with normal guitars. Even when he's in out of make up, playing in civvies, or whatever, he has to have an odd guitar.
Guess it's because he never used normal ones. He always used guitars that most folks didn't use or odd customs.

Because it's not the only prototype, there are other prototypes as well.

Uh, I didn't even remember there were two versions, though I surely "should have known" it. The difference is obvious in the headstock and the knobs.
