I wish that Double Platinum had gotten a general release as part of the Kiss 40 vinyl releases as opposed to being a box set exclusive.

All Japanese music media come with lyrics translated to english if need be. I am guessing its some sort of requirement? If its the standard thing expect them to be horribly butchered.Stanley! Bah, that's my least favorite of the best of the solo albums cover and songs/sequencing.

Re: 4 mini-LP sleeve CD reissues coming from Japan
Ha Ha!!! Yeah the lyric translations aren't something controlled by the band. I am guessing there are people in Japan's music industry whose only jobs are to translate lyrics to the best of their abilities. Accuracy not a requirement. I'd love that job!!! I think weirdly if your inner sleeve contained lyrics as part of the official art that you probably still get the standard white Japanese translation sheet.Nately120 wrote: ↑Thu Jun 11, 2020 8:54 amMy Japanese version of Let Me Rock You features lyrics where Peter defiantly states that he ain't gon be no wipey boy for you no more.Going Blind wrote: ↑Thu Jun 11, 2020 8:51 amAll Japanese music media come with lyrics. Something I think is rather cool is 12 inch singles and Ep's even have the lyric sheets. Something that never happens in the US. Not sure about 7 inch singles however.

Anybody getting these or any Japanese media, keep your obis and keep them in good condition. You would be amazed how much having the obi add's value to the price of something should you decide to resell at a later date.

Re: 4 mini-LP sleeve CD reissues coming from Japan
I dig the way the best of solo albums comes with both the German and French sleeves. I originally owned the French copy on vinyl, so will be nice to have a replica of that.
Would seriously love an MQA player, but they don’t seem to have taken off, at least not at reasonable prices as far as I’m aware.
These releases will prompt me to go searching for one.
As far as I’m aware the only other high def Audio KISS physical release was Destroyer on SACD. And that commands a pretty high price these days.

If they weren't limited edition, I would imagine Smashes would end up in the discount bin rather quickly. Kinda crazy to have a release like this and focus on four comps at once.

Yes, they will play on your CD but only in the usual CD quality, although they claim UHQCD do sound slightly better due to the materials/manufacturing process.OrigialEraFan wrote: ↑Thu Jun 11, 2020 12:43 pm Just asking because I'm not up on audio things, Will these play on my cd player and will they sound superior to my old CDs? However, you will not be able to play these in Hi Res 352.8kHz/24bit unless you have an MQA enabled CD player or decoder. The players are typically very expensive from what I know.
This video from a couple of years ago is useful if you want to know more, although things might have improved since then!

Still have my HDCD palyer which sounds great, but like ALL the fadish stuff it all died off.Nately120 wrote: ↑Thu Jun 11, 2020 12:33 pmI'm not super hardcore about audio, but I do have an SACD player and I have a few super audio CDs that were mastered from quadraphonic tapes...wacky.Going Blind wrote: ↑Thu Jun 11, 2020 11:38 amI believe really high end players (super expensive) are popular with audiophiles. Would be a bit of effort ripping these to digital while retaining the HQ, plus you'd need the right hardware for playback.
I'm guessing Tidal would be a decent digital alternative.

I have to admit, I'm kind of interested in the Smashes, Thrashes & Hits one. So Universal did for sure do a new remaster in 352.8kHz/24bit? Or is there a chance this is just an upscaled version of the 192kHz/24bit that's was done in 2014?

Ummm...that D.P. artwork is not the same as the original vinyl, it's the 8-track and cassette art.

No, the 2014's were done in DSD (2.6 or 5.2 don't remember)..
so it's converted from that

Re: 4 mini-LP sleeve CD reissues coming from Japan
Hey everyone! Forgive me if someone made another thread on this, but I got my copy of Killers today and just wanted to share my thoughts for anyone curious. I also have Double Platinum on order, but it hasn't shipped yet. Not sure if I'll get the other two. So, as far as Killers goes, it really is mostly a faithful replica of the original Japan LP. The only exception is the generic green label that all UHQCDs seem to have, which kind of annoys me for the price. I'm pretty sure all of the four will be like this judging from the descriptions.
So what you get is: a resealable clear plastic outer sleeve, the OBI which replicates the original, a mini cardboard LP sleeve which seems pretty high quality to me, the green CD with a clear sleeve, a CD-sized version of the original fold-out poster, a small replica of the KISS sticker that came with the original, a lyrics booklet that contains both Japanese and English lyrics for each song (pretty standard for Japanese mini-LPs), and a fold-out booklet that I'm guessing is explaining/selling the whole UHQCD x MQA thing. Unfortunately it does not include a mini version of the original promo bag. Not that I expected it, but it would've been nice.
I'll be honest, I don't understand what UHQCD x MQA means and how exactly that works. I get that MQA is an audio format and you need "MQA-enabled" hardware and software to use MQA, but I don't understand how the UHQCD physical format relates to MQA. All I know is that you can still play it on a standard CD player without using "MQA" (I think?). And as far as that goes with playing it in standard CD players, I'm not blown away by it. It sounds better than my 1993 German CD copy, but I'm not like "woah this is awesome!" I think the SHM-CDs from 2008/2011-2016 sound better, but that could very well be the placebo effect. I'm guessing it's just another Japanese "high quality format" marketing gimmick. The track listing is also the original Japanese listing. It doesn't add "Talk to Me" from the Australian release like the 2014 digital versions do. I'm also unsure if it's a new remaster or what source was used if not.
As for if it's worth the money, I can't tell you. It depends on what you want to get out of it. It sounds perfectly fine to me through standard hardware, but if you already have the 2014 remaster I think you won't find anything new unless you have MQA hardware. I mainly bought it for the packaging and curiosity.
Here are some photos of the whole package. Let me know if you have any questions or want to see anything else.

I believe the source for Killers was the original Japan master tapes, it’s not a remaster. Flat transfer? I’m not sure. Also the best of solo albums uses German master tapes, also not a remaster.

And it’s the exact same as the BMG record club version of the 1980s Double Platinum CD.thunderballs wrote: ↑Sat Jun 13, 2020 10:46 am Ummm...that D.P. artwork is not the same as the original vinyl, it's the 8-track and cassette art.
