So I'm not the only one.

Aside from that, which was hard to ignore after hearing that song live like a million times, it was a lively performance.

I thought for sure they’d play Cadillac Dreams for this. I mean - I’d ‘a bet the house on it. Completely stupefied that they dusted off RARAN

It's very odd and sounds digitally created in a studio. I've never heard him sing like that. Agreed that the rest was decent.

Yeah, the singing was feelingless and forced. These kind of appearances are lame IMHO. So phony.

From the video it looks like a good performance. Always good when you can get the crowd really into it, a bored crowd does not go over well on TV.
FYI on these shows they tell the audience to get as loud as possible for effect. I'm sure some of them were excited but not all of them. It's all for show.
I'd guess they ran through the song at least three times. Like you say, the crowd is persuaded to be over the top. Everything, including guitars and drums is prerecorded. Essentially its a music video. Looked fine, but I really don't get exited by illusions like that. I'd rather watch Aerosmith sounding a little off, but playing live any day of the week.

Every single crowd shot I saw most of the people looked really enthused, were singing along, pumping their fists in the air and doing the Gene/love hand signs. The least energized people in the audience shots were still moving to the drum beat and smiling. Audience-wise, it was a win for Kiss last night.

But then there's the shot of the guy in the crowd trying to sing the words and he is a train wreck because he doesn't know them.

I as well. After Newman wrecked we listened to the NASCAR channel on SXM for updates on his condition. Horrible wreck.

No, Dell told me KISS is the most successful band in the universe, they make seven trillion a month in merch sales, and KISS is averaging 740,000 tickets sold per show on this tour.

He also told me he does not know Gene or Paul at all, so he has no reason to fudge numbers for them.

I believe him.

The third album for an artist is often described as difficult.
Billy Bragg even printed it on his third album, Talking With The Taxman About Poetry.

Got it, thanks for the clarification. Isn’t the second album also considered difficult sometimes? Because the artist has their whole life to write their best songs which are usually used on the first album?

Again Doc must have a friend at AGT.
Could be. Or the band is using a modern form of payola to get on.

It's how the entertainment industry works. You grease my palm, I'll grease yours.
Did Dell tell you that?
No, Dell told me KISS is the most successful band in the universe, they make seven trillion a month in merch sales, and KISS is averaging 740,000 tickets sold per show on this tour.

He also told me he does not know Gene or Paul at all, so he has no reason to fudge numbers for them.

I believe him.
Even when he’s not here you guys can’t help but talk about him. He’s right when he says you’re all obsessed. It’s a little disturbing. Whatever. I’m just glad it’s not me!

From the video it looks like a good performance. Always good when you can get the crowd really into it, a bored crowd does not go over well on TV.
FYI on these shows they tell the audience to get as loud as possible for effect. I'm sure some of them were excited but not all of them. It's all for show.

Just making an observation that almost everyone seen looked like they were into Kiss' performance, that's all.

Some KISS fans are clueless. Sorry but it’s true. I’ve seen it a bit here, but it has happened tenfold on social media since this performance. Fans with their sarcastic “Oh they played a deep cut” or “oh wow, never heard this song before!” etc. etc. I always assumed most KISS fans these days are aged 40-60 and have followed the band for decades. But sometimes it’s like we as a fan base are new to the whole thing. 14 year old Billie Eilish fans seem to have more of a grasp of things than we do.

Surely we are smart enough to recognise why KISS appeared on that show last night. It was basically a commercial. Just like it was last time they went on the show, it was all designed to remind everyone that KISS is still around and if you’re quick you still have time to capture the excitement and spectacle of seeing them live one more time. It should go without saying but they’re not up there pitching to us. For the most part we’ve got our front row ticket, M&G package and stage played guitar picked out. So with their 3 minute live (and I use that term loosely) advertisement do we honestly expect them to bust out a rarity? They want to be as bombastic and entertaining as possible and the song has to be something that most people are familiar with. We’ve heard RARAN a million times, but the casual observer who they are targeting has only heard it enough that he/she probably still enjoys the catchy nature of it.

I’ve said all this already and so have others, but it just seems sometimes that KISS fans don’t get it. Or maybe they don’t want to. Maybe it’s an easy way to take a cheap shot at the band. I can’t help thinking if they’d busted out She’s So European or Hide Your Heart there would still be some fans saying “why did they play a song nobody knows?” or “I hate that song!”

Thanks for asking.

Co-sign.

I've been fucking with this KISS thing since I was 10, 1987, and while I have great memories of years gone by I am not imprisoned by them. I get who KISS are in 2020 and I get the importance of appearances like the AGT finale last night. It's all about staying connected with the modern mainstream audience. Maintaining a strong social media presence, pushing the EOTR tour, taking on new branding opportunities etc. Some of the old heads refuse to admit it but KISS aren't exactly hurting these days in terms of where their level of success should be. For a Hall of Fame band about to hang it up in 17 months, at it for nearly 50 years (context: the first KISS album dropped 46 years ago today...and 46 years later they're on prime time network TV!), KISS are doing fine and appealing to exactly who they are targeting. It is true: a lot of the kids of the modern culture "get it" better than some old heads do who will forever brand Gene and Paul as the villains...even though they are the two OGs who kept this band alive all this time while the other two have slapped you in the face over and over and over. I was fine with last night's appearance in the context of what it was meant to be.

Why do you worry so much about what others think??

I think you'd enjoy this board much more if you'd stop running from thread to thread trying to put out every little anti-KISS fire you think you see.

Here's the thing about last night's performance: I could make a positive case about it, and I could make a negative case about it. The people that loved it and enjoyed it are right...but so are the people who feel otherwise.

KISS is a band with such a long and storied career that along the way they've brought in numerous types of fans and personalities. The opinions here are going to be very wide-ranging.

Some fans love last night's performance. I get why they do. Some people, maybe someone who is a deep, deep fan of 1974-1976 KISS, was not a fan of it. I get that, too. Both are right, neither is wrong. It's perception.

It's truly mind-boggling how some of you simply will not accept anything short of constant love and affection thrown at the band for everything they do.
