How many Monster books sold???
There have been some comparisons drawn on this discussion forum between the Monster book and Gene's box set.
Someone said that they only sold 2 Monster books.
Is this an exaggeration?
If so, is there a resource that would actually list how many of those books sold?
Does anyone have the real number?

Re: How many Monster books sold???
I'm not so much interested in how many were sold, I'd love to know what Gene & Paul were paid up front when the contract was signed. Who paid them? Whose ultimate responsibility was it to sell the book? If we find out who lost the most money, we'll have our answer.

Re: How many Monster books sold???
I read on this very forum a few years ago
2 books were sold
But I have only seen 1 person with it online
I don't remember what country he was from
I have yet to meet anyone that bought it
Or knows of anyone that bought it
I know some very , very serious collectors
And they don't have it

Are you saying that you have a better chance of seeing Sasquatch than you do spotting a Kiss Kollector with a Monster book?metaldad wrote:I read on this very forum a few years ago

Now let's bring back Yellow Shirt for the "it flopped" mantra.
When i watched the ad years ago i get intrigued by the fact despite being multilanguage options not spanish translated version were available.
Perhaps Curt Gooch would sell the infamous loose pages from the stock units in the next 10 years.

I honestly thought the Monster book had some appeal initially. Than the actual size and the price made me say............"um, no!"Klankh79 wrote:yeah, i never saw the appeal of that book at all. same with KISStory II. i know a guy who has it....and regrets it.
KISStory 2 is not great but I got it for like $30 off Ebay so I don't regret having it. It's a far cry less than KISStory itself.

I have serious doubt someone other than Gene & Paul bank rolled this thing. I know how Gene says people come to him to do deals, I get that. I can't imagine anyone besides Gene that would think someone would buy a $4500 book about Kiss.kissjrj wrote:I'm not so much interested in how many were sold, I'd love to know what Gene & Paul were paid up front when the contract was signed. Has there ever been a book of similar pricing?

I still can't understand what were they thinking with these books.
With other outrageous stuff like the coffin at least they had a ton of publicity and relatively low cost (probably very few of the coffins were actually built in advance). With these book my understanding that a lot of copies were printed, it was clear they they were not gonna sell well.

I assume there is a warehouse of these books somewhere, maybe Gene can include one with his vault? KISS they should look at start selling the pages individually, because of the size would make awesome posters.

That could be true, but we can both agree that's not part of their marketing history. Guessing aside, I prefer actual factual details. Someone owns these books and took on major losses. I'd like to know who that is.Velvis wrote:I have serious doubt someone other than Gene & Paul bank rolled this thing. I know how Gene says people come to him to do deals, I get that. Re: How many Monster books sold???
I doubt any brick and mortar store would want it. It would take up way too much display space, unless it was sealed people would be flipping through copies ruining the pages (making the books even less desirable), and even if it were priced at $500; it's still more than most would want to spend.Philly Cheese wrote:I keep expecting them to show up in the discount shelves up front at Barnes and Noble... for $1,800.00!

You might have to travel to Canada and do it yourself.Vandelay Industries wrote:Whoever ordered one of those books, I hope the postal carrier kicked you in the nuts when you opened the front door.
My Canadian cover version of the KISS Monster Book (#0012) finally arrived on December 3rd. After a substantial investment and patiently waiting 5 months all I can say is that it's an absolute "masterpiece"! I know that it is promoted as a coffee table book, however, mine is being displayed on the dinning table. The size, weight and sheer quality of this art book is second to none. A proud addition to my high end "KISS Kollection" for sure!
Sincerely,
Thomas Anderson

For the life of me I just don't see the appeal in this book I mean how often are you going to look at it and My kistory book fell apart instantly, and that was $150 I couldn't imagine spending $4,000 on a book and having it fall apart, and like I said realistically how often are you going to look at this
