Peter gets no respect.
Very sad.
His 1974-1978 KISS output is very good and was VERY influential.

Very good and very influential does not equal the best.

Lol, I just read about half of this and ALMOST EVERY entry had at least one line of wrong information.
Good for a laugh until it becomes pathetic.
And,
Forget Peter’s lack of inclusion.
There are a few ALL TIME greats absent that should easily rank in the 3, 2, 1 spot.

You just disagreed with yourself with circular logic.

Peter no more influential than Ace (that = as influential as Ace)

Then you tell us that Ace inspired you.

The real shame is that Dave Lombardo is not on the list, he set the (unmatched) standard for a whole genre

Then Gene Hoglan, Ron Jarzombek….

Seems my wording was too vague. Artists can be influential across many dimensions and it was not like Ace and Peter were consummate musicians, whose appeal lay in their playing skills. I don't think Ace's basic pentatonics were particularly influential stylistically, which the shredd-wanking of the 80s can attest to.

Glad to see Jeff Porcaro and Ginger Baker in the list. Peter Criss, I cannot think of any that stands out except the intro to Strutter or Love Gun. Detroit Rock City, did he even drum on that track? I think maybe Peter could have been on there before Lars or Tico Torres though..

Peter should definitely be in the top 20
Many of his parts are still copied almost 50 years AFTER he created them. What more can a

It's absolutely accurate and has always been the case since at least the rise of The Beatles.

You're on a Kiss forum for crying out loud, one of the biggest selling, most widely known bands of all time and yet very few would claim that any of the originals are anything more than adequately capable musicians.

But no, Peter wouldn't belong on that list anyway.
1. Roger Taylor from Duran Duran is a much more talented drummer than Roger Taylor from Queen.

2. Here's their excuse for including Roger from Queen:

"Not the most technical drummer. Taylor played in front of thousands and thousands of people and became a part of history with one of the best rock bands ever. He is not only a drummer but a songwriter and a singer. He was a part of Queen from the very beginning."

Those EXACT SAME criteria could have been applied to Peter Criss but, conveniently, were not. Of course.

It almost always comes back to fake-journalism mainstream payola media propaganda.

You can make an argument for top 100, but no fucking way does Peter Criss belong in any top 20 list of the greatest drummers of all time.

100% white guys too.. Without exception..

Aren't these type of lists in this day and age meant to be "inclusive" and wonderfully wokefully "varied" and all that kind of good stuff?!? At least that's what I think I've picked up as to what the new rules are?!

No female drummers and no non-white drummers. Well if that's what their thoughts are, then good for them in sticking to their guns and putting out a list that they truly believe are the best drummers... Wouldn't be my list, but they have their opinions I guess.

You couldn't be more right! Bonham or Peart at one, Palmer at three, drop Moon down quite a bit.

No Palmer, Rich, or Buford is absurd.

I'd rather listen to your mother's singing- or worse, my mother's- than Peter's.

My old girl did okay when she stuck to the lower registers, a la Paul in I'm A Legend Tonight, but the warble-warble-screech-screech church music she liked to join in with was painful to listen to.

Are you talking about rock musicians or the most popular?

Because these are different things.
I'm referring to popular music, ie, anything that isn't classical, opera etc.

So, yes, I include rock musicians in that. If you take a look through history - and currently - you'll find that, even in the rock genre, the most highly skilled musicians don't tend to end up in the most popular, biggest selling bands.

Every single member of Dream Theatre is far more skilled as a musician than anyone that's ever been in Kiss, AC/DC, Metallica, Foo Fighters... and yet those bands are household names and sell many, many times more records.

Of course there are exceptions to everything, Eddie Van Halen for example, but as a general rule, 'swagger' and image counts for much more than skilled musicianship when it comes to popularity in music.

Even directly comparing like for like the same applies. The members of Judas Priest could sing and play rings around Black Sabbath, but we all know which band is bigger and better.

Drum! Magazine? Oh, for sure.
There are many forms and levels of propaganda. It's everywhere.

And it's almost every*thing*.
Yes, yes, they're out to get us all. Especially the drummers.
You're lost.

Propaganda is the decades of targeted payola-brainwashing that trickled into the subconsciouses of this magazine's staff, causing them eventually to believe that the likes of Dave Grohl should be on the list.

Thank God for Alex Jones and QAnon to show us the way.
Well, I'm not versed on either of those things, but I'm glad that someone has finally been able to get through to you and Enlighten you about how the world works.

Someone = me.
Then clearly the point went over your head, which isn't a surprise given the kooky shit you believe.
Yeah, like....believe everything the wholly corrupt politicians and the psychos in the fake-journalism mainstream media say?

I think you're paid to post here.

Peter Criss had a 5 year career.

Peter should definitely be in the top 20
Many of his parts are still copied almost 50 years AFTER he created them. What more can a
musician offer?
I've never heard of a drummer saying they tried to emulate Peter Criss.

You’re right. The list means nothing really; but I wonder if he would have been included if he had continued to be working to present day, or had remained in KISS to this day.

Any Best Rock Drummers of All Time list that fails to include Budgie is no such list, at all.

* shrugs *

Both John Bonham and Keith Moon sit at the top of the list.

Cozy Powell should sit right behind them, but he's there, too, so... all is forgiven.

Anyone can put out such lists. These are all based on opinions.
great drummer for some may be the wrost drummer ever.

I would take this with a grain of salt.

Get over it.

It's what you think that matters, not any of such lists.

Peter was and is a great drummer.
