Anyone get their German vinyls yet?

Post by KissRMe4life »

Mine is in transit. Anxiously awaiting the Best of Solos. Thinking of getting one more, possibly DTK

Seriously, we are in the day and age that a response to a post is to correct someone’s grammar? Sad. Just sad.

I don't think it's sad, it's good to know isn't it?

Can't help with the vinyl question I'm afraid.

Perhaps, but it speaks volumes as to how bored and mundane someones life has to be to be on a KISS message board correcting the grammar on someone else’s post. Especially knowing so many people are posting from their phones and the spell correct is not always correct in itself.

I have always wondered why people started using the term vinyls instead of records. English isn't my native language but 'vinyls' sound so weird. :|

Using the term LP exclusively for vinyl is more annoying because LP only refers to how many songs are on it. A CD, cassette, 8-track, anything can be an "LP" or an "EP" or a single

I’m sad that I didn’t get the KILLERS remaster colored vinyl release… but I see it all over eBay where apparently a lot of people bought it specifically to turn around and resell for profit. When I see those prices, I know I’ll never own one

Yeah, stupid me. I dropped way more on that KILLERS remaster than I should have. As a kid, I always wanted to own "BOSA" and "Killers" on vinyl and I never thought I would. When they reissued them both, I had to get them.

The "vinyls" thing is a strange one - literally never heard it until maybe five years ago, and it seems to have emanated from the generation that grew up after CD had initially supplanted vinyl albums.

I suppose there's a whole cohort of people that are unsure what to call them...I remember a friend of mine's kid who was maybe ten at the time telling me he knew his dad had been drunk the previous weekend because he'd started playing his big black CDs!

Hell, I still call them "records". That's never going to change.

I never saw the appeal of splatter vinyl, it's a silly idea, like tie-dyed shirts. I've had the original German Best Of Solo Albums for ages and later on added a copy of the French one because I like the different album cover.

If splatter vinyl is done right, it looks really cool.

Speaking for myself, I was never able to find a copy of "Best Of Solo Albums" on vinyl in decent shape at a decent price. $22 for a brand new copy was unbeatable. It's just a bonus that it is the splatter vinyl. Now I have one copy to play and one to frame to hang on my wall.

Did these ship from Texas? I'm going through the same thing and I'm IN Texas. They're saying my delivery should be here on the 9th as well, and I live an hour and a half from Austin!

In my experience, personal experience, it's because people use the term record to describe anything including digital downloads.

Just my take.

Not to mention the countless people of my generation who buy records, but don’t know how to attach the cartridge to their player (if they even have one).

In all seriousness, I always thought that it was just a funny thing to say.

“The plural of vinyl is vinyl.”

Like the quote from the flick PCU.

“Wearing a t shirt of the band you’re seeing?! Don’t be that guy!”

Something friends joke with each other about, but no one actually cares.

Definitely weird. It was always records or LPs, calling them vinyl is some bullshit hipster thing.
Using the term LP exclusively for vinyl is more annoying because LP only refers to how many songs are on it. A CD, cassette, 8-track, anything can be an "LP" or an "EP" or a single
The term LP refers to a Long Playing Record...aka the 33-1/3 RPM 12".

It was a competing format to the 45's with the big holes in them.

The terms have become synonymous with all formats.

Those tend to not be 33 1/3 RPM.

Anyway, the logic as I see it is single => EP (extended play) => LP (long play). Whether the single, EP or LP is on vinyl, CD tape (or whatever else) doesn't matter.

An "album" is also any format. For me a "record" is definitely vinyl.

Correct! 12” singles are typically 45rpm, tho my Gloria single is 33… but it’s also a single and not a long playing record.

What the terms meant originally and what they mean now are different things.

Hence why vinyls is acceptable to me.

MIne arrived today. I ordered the following as these were the ones that I didn't have a German copy.

Hotter Than Hell
Dressed To Kill
Music From The Elder
Animalize
Revenge
Destroyer

Now with Destroyer Kissonline shows the Destroyer Resurrected cover for both the album and the shirt. The sent me the regular version of Destroyer, which I'm actually fine with as I don't have that one either. I did email customer support explaining what had happened. I can send back the version they sent and they will send me the Resurrection version. I am going to email them and see if I can order the Resurrection version as I would like to have both, but I would like for them to make sure they send the appropriate version.

Has anyone else have this situation?
