Easy Thing vs Forever

Post by Under The Rose »

Two completely different ballads….one soulful and heartfelt, the other a huge power ballad crafted for mass market appeal. At least that’s how I see it.

Pretty sure Forever will win, but who’s with me in voting for Easy Thing?

Interesting that you find Easy Thing sincere when it’s obvious Peter was attempting a Beth Pt. 2 with several songs on his album. Not a criticism, just the truth. Any time a songwriter sits down to create a song there’s a level of formula about it. From the very beginning KISS wanted to be a heavy metal Beatles. That’s contrived.

Both appalling excuses for songs that I would prefer didn’t exist. At least Forever has a decent solo.

So I guess every ballad Peter did was just supposed to be another BETH? Does that include Paul's wretched "I Finally Found My Way"?

Easy Thing is awful. Peter's vocals crack a little, go off key a little, and the song is so utterly sappy... No thanks.

I'll take Eric beating the shit out of the drums on a power ballad over that any day of the week, especially a power ballad written as well as Forever was. Oh, yeah, Bruce's acoustic solo is MAGNIFICENT, too!

I am no Peter Criss album fan, but Easy Thing is better. I have always hated Paul's ballads and Forever is no exception - just cheesy and completely lame.

Forever. Amazing vocal, restrained yet excellent drumming from Eric C and of course Bruce's solo.

Easy Thing always struck me as a half baked Beth clone without the inventiveness - basically Bob Ezrin. Weak vocal from Peter too.

I like Easy Thing. It's one of two songs I can tolerate on the Peter Criss 78 album (other is I Can't Stop the Rain).

Forever never did anything for me except make me wish Hot in the Shade was 5 songs shorter.

I went with Forever. Liked it when it came out and I still like it now. I think I will break out Peter's solo album today. Not often I am in the mood to hear Easy Thing it's usually Don't You Let Me Down, Can't Stop The Rain, or That's The Kind Of Sugar Papa Likes.

Easy Thing. Much better vocals, build-up, song in general. "Forever" is good for what it is, but very "power-ballad cliched" and Paul's cat-walling vox are at places painful. And as I've said before, if "Easy Thing" was remade by a modern popular soulful artist it'd be a big hit.

I think it’s a very good verse and makes sense, something not always the case with KISS lyrics.

If it's so trivial, did you have to feel compelled to "correct" the OP with your "truth?"

The very first thing you did in this thread was immediately "correct" the OP. You're the only one who felt the need to do that. And yes, you do always say how others feel is their "opinion," but when you do it, you are, stating a "truth." You even had to throw in how "obvious" the "truth" was, as if the OP was just clueless.

And now you're doing the "Who, me" part of the routine after being called out. Again. You bring this upon yourself.

I admit it can be a burden to always be right, but at least I don't go around giving lessons to various members on the difference between opinion vs. fact like you constantly do and then you go ahead and state your opinions as facts. You do this all the time.

I don't give a shit if you want to provide your opinions as facts like you do as Red pointed out - knock yourself out, but stop with the opinions/facts lessons. That is hypocrisy.
