Collaboration

Post by NYRockCity »

Who do you wish that Kiss collaborated with?

I think it would have been cool for them to collaborate with someone like Lita Ford or Cher.

I wish I could think of a working Producer that could produce KISS - I think Paul was trying to get back to the Eddie Kramer sound with "Sonic Boom" & "Monster" but there are things on those albums that Kramer never would've went for (those singalong choruses have got to go for one) - Ezrin is still around but at this point I think he would take them down another rabbit hole -

Of course this is all fantasyland talk - they act like they have no interest in new material - BUT if they did I would hope for a Producer that knows the band and their legacy - that LIKES the band - and that would push and encourage them in their songwriting ("nah not good enough- change that") and above all avoid all current cliches and make it sound like a timeless KISS album -

Just wish they could set aside their differences and make one last good one for the fans - with all 4 original guys - since we were robbed of that album in 1998

If they want to sell some records, then it should be Taylor Swift.

I'd like to see Paul and Dave Grohl write together.

Or Gene and Chris Martin (Coldplay).

I would love to have heard something from Jimmy Page and Paul Stanley 15-20 years ago (when he could still sing).

George Martin:
We would have gotten the best of Gene's best of the Beatles influence
Paula influence
Pete's soul influence
And Ace's influence
The solo album idea coalesced into one outstanding album

These are the same guys who blew it with Garth Brooks. Taylor Swift will never approach his level.

Had they not had such an offensive album cover with an offensive name on top of it, they might have been able to unload 2M copies of the tribute album. Many of his fans would be crazy enough to shell out $11 to get it for his track.

Kiss should have offered to open for Garth back then. If they would have only done their "acoustic" stuff several years earlier.

I don't know if their manager really understood what they had.

Rueben was the 2nd guy that popped into my head. Kramer was the first.
But then reality & common sense came crashing in & I realized Paul’s ego would prevent them from any true collaboration with anyone.

Or maybe Quincy Jones is the correct answer :D

Probably because they didn’t have one at that point. Gene was self-managing at that point. Officially Gene and Paul but the whole KMA thing was clearly 95% Gene.

They did have a manager at the time. The KMA album happened because Larry brought a Seattle tribute album to them.

Gene told Larry to go to Mercury and get a huge advance for Kiss My Ass. Larry went to the Mercury's President and he got it. Larry wanted to contact the artists management but no, Gene ruined it and said he'd contact the artists directly.

Larry called the artists "C" list. Larry had no clue how big Garth Brooks was then and he still doesn't. Nor would I call Lenny Kravitz or Stevie Wonder (C list). But KISS had the biggest act in the world and they blew it.

3 Sides with Larry

The only collaboration they ever did was with Momoiro Clover Z.

(And sorry to be this guy... but it's Rick Rubin. Not Ruben or Rueben.)
