Merchandising You'd Like To See

Post by Stlouisblue »

I mean, they've pretty much already put everything out there...perfume, caskets, wine.

But what merchandise would you like to see that they haven't put out? KISS vacuum cleaner? KISS taser?

Badass looking b&w t-shirts & long-sleeves with photos along the lines of Winterland 1975, that read: Knights In Satan’s Service.

No it wouldn’t. They’re still originals. This is a reproduction, in a totally different format. The fact that vinyl reproductions came out within the last few years didn’t make good quality 70s vinyl worthless.

Seems like a no brainer to do a collection of tour books, might just be that the format/aspect ratio of them was wildly different over the years.

I don't think that reproducing the content of the tour books in a new format would devalue the 70s and 80s originals. Collectors will still seek those out and you may well get even more interest in them.

They should take example of the bootleg vinyls out there. Some have the most kick ass packaging.

It could be done in a very limited pressing.

Yes, that would be great.

First book up to Creatures 10th anniversary.
Second book 80s sans facepaint.
Third book ... you get the idea

I like that idea. My fear with the concept would be 20 years of tribute band content that I want no part of. But if it were broken up like you suggest and you could skip the Cold Gin tour books, I'd happily buy the first couple/few volumes.

Xactly! First two suggested volumes would be more than enough for me actually. The Woloch designs are maybe the nicest ones.

Two things:

1. As someone mentioned, a Tourbook Book with all of the tourbooks reprinted and some stories behind them.

2. If they had a 4-foot wide exact metal replica of the old KISS stage logo from the 70s that could be mounted on the wall and lit up, I'd buy it

Not at all.
A tour book from 1976 is still a tour book from 1976.

Having its images bound into a book format does not effect the original product.

Marvel reprinted the 2 KISS comics into a magazine format that included current interviews and articles.
People who want the original books still seek them out

Funnily enough, it has been an avenue we have been investigating with the relevant parties.

The securing of ALL photographer rights is complicated (and even more complicated after the implosion of the MAGIC book and his dealings with photographers).

It's not something we wouldn't do. But let's just say that one has returned to the "development hell/for later" part of our publishing plans. It's not impossible ...but a tricky one to navigate both legally and financially. And both Joe and I always said that IF we do it, it has to be great and of top quality - otherwise why putting something out that is half-assed. We go for quality rather than quantity...

We do have a few cool things to announce soon that involve KISS... so we're concentrating on that and some other rock-related releases.

Hey Nicholas, thanks for answering!

Too bad the rights weren't secured "in perpetuity" back then, like with album artwork ... wait!
I just had this terrible idea of restaging all the pictures with the current members, just like Jigoku-Retsuden, but visually.

No ... forget about it.

I think it would be cool if Paul had a line of hot sauces, salad dressings, and pasta sauces....and donate some proceeds to About Face foundation or Wounded Warriors or Music Cares program. Kind of what Paul Newman did. Paul seems to enjoying cooking a lot over the last several years.

They wouldn't have to be be the original size...they couldn't be since they were mostly all different sizes unless they did something crazy like huge black boarders around the smaller book pages. It's probably moot since it's so unlikely to happen, but if they did it, I would probably prefer it not be the size of the biggest books. Something closer to the Reunion tour book dimensions would probably be plenty IMO.

A remastered and expanded live album.

Or just more live albums in general... I mean...they have the audio right?
